WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Barack Obama will meet this week with Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and the Cambridge, Massachusetts, police officer who arrested him for disorderly conduct, James Crowley, the White House said Monday.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs did not say which day the three men will get together at the White House.

UPDATE: The White House has revealed what beer will be served at the much-anticipated meeting later this week: Bud for the president and Blue Moon for Crowley. The Boston Globe reports Gates likes Red Stripe and Beck's.

I lost trust in him, Obama. He choose his BLACK friend over US people.... real sad.

Did you know that in History, NONE of past president is alike as Obama....

    Now, I support "NOBAMA 2012"

Can we focus on the real issue: a man was arrested in his own home AFTER showing identification that he in fact lived there and was not breaking in – no matter what he said to the officer, that officer should have walked away, not lured the homeowner to the porch to arrest him for disorderly... please folks we still have freedom of speech! and the front porch is still your property. No one should be arrested under these circumstances. And yes, the President needs to be involved in all matters where the Constitution is threatened.

I agree Obama shouldn't be addressing this issue...he is not God! Stick to your job...

And from what I've read, the officer had ever right to arrest him. If he would have just explained who he was and provided the ID it would be a non-issue. The officer was doing his job and personally, I would have been pleased they were checking on my residence if there was any indication of a break in.

While I have always sided with Obama on this, I think its impressive that he has taken steps to mend these fences.

How many times did Bush/Cheney "misspoke" without taking actions to clarify their words or learn from mistakes. Good for Obama!!

I dont really care how "disorderly" Gates was – he was in his own home. He could have said the "f" word a thousand times at the top of his lungs and I would still support him. He might have been irrational at the time, but as long as he was in his own private residence – who cares? The police officer should have chauled it up to a missunderstanding and walked away from that house. The moment he put the handcuffs on Gates – the police officer was wrong. Hence the reason why they dropped the charges.

The three men involved are acting in a mature manner to try to open up a dialog, not just between the three of them, but one that just might help to improve race relations in this country. Too bad many of you ignorant fools posting racist statements on this post won't listen and learn! Ignorance is the REAL problem with this country!

That is quite funny actually. Our so-called President telling us that he didn't know the whole story, and that he knows the professor so he might biased, and then he says that the Cambridge Police acted stupidly. Very eloquent Mr. President! If I were the officer, I wouldn't have accepted the invitation because Obama needs to understand that not everything is solved that way, you can't just hug and kiss and make up!

When the police show up, calm yourself down, do what they say and cooperate. In my life, I have been pulled over plenty of times or interacted with Police. Every time I listened to what the cop said and everything was cool. Who in thier right mind would start arguing.

Maybe this "intelligent" Harvard professor should have been smart enough to realise it was a misunderstanding and that by simply cooperating, the truth would become clear and ended peacefully.

And the President should not have shot back such a quick from-the-hip response. The word "prejudice" means to pre-judge a situation or person. In this case, the President clearly judged the situation without having all the facts. We are all guilty of prejudice in our actions, but it is our hearts that matter most. Pray that his words are not an accurate reflection of his heart.

I just want to know how Lucia Whalen didn't recognize her neighbor. How long has she been living there? How long has he been living there? I think what we can take from this story is that people need to stop being nosey and mind their own business.

Excellent! Glad all 3 can sit down over a beer and discuss this as human beings and turn this into a "teachable moment" as the president said.

The real question: What brand of beer will be served?

Once again the Blubbering Conservidiot Sniveling Class posts comments full of their bellicose and repulsive rhetoric. Why don't you Klansters go back to Drudge Report so you can whine and regurgitate your filth and lies where it belongs – on the blog specifically designed for the moron class: ignorant, inbred racists and brain-dead Palinites?

If I were that police officer, I wouldn't give Obama the time of day! Obama showed his true colors, making judgement without knowing all of the facts; without being there, etc. He took the side of a friend, of a man of color, and said that the police "acted stupidly". How about the great professor, with all of his intelligence, simply showing his identification that bears his home address, and prevent this entire episode. No, once again, the fault falls on the police, specifically the "white" police officer. "No thank you, Mr. President, you judged me prematurely, you said what you said in haste to make a comment to support your friend, I choose not to meet with you."

I think there is a time and place for everything. If one got locked out of their house, your getting into your house through the window, and police stop you. The police are doing the right thing by also questioning you. If you agrue with them it get worst, but if you explain yourself and persent evidence that it is your house then you are to be let free. If police continue to harass you or question you then use the 5th at them and ask for a lawyer. The constitute protects you but if someone uses your color, name or age to arrest you then that is wrong. Profilling on color, name or even age has been use by the police. We need to change the system. Obama is just talking for american people who can not defend themselves. Yet he is the president and the people should talk againt injustice.

First, Obama couldn't say a word about the American ship captain kidnapped by the pirates, and now, he quickly rushes to judgement about his friend's arrest! No leadership by Obama both times. We need Hillary as our President!

I don’t think the cop is a raciest. However I do think the cop set him up. I read the police report, As long as Gates was in his home screaming the Police could not do anything thing to him, that is why the cop asked him to step outside so he could arrest him. The cop acted stupidly in that fact; once he had conformation that this was Gates home all he had to do was get the heck out! There was nothing left for the cop to do!
