Palin gives 'stirring' gun rights speech at NRA dinner, says group

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/07/06/art.palinclap0706.gi.jpg caption=" Palin's fans have been clamoring for her to re-launch her Twitter feed."](CNN) - She’s gone Twitter-silent since leaving office last week – but former Alaska governor Sarah Palin has spoken out publicly for the first time since her resignation, according to the nation’s largest gun rights group.

Palin addressed a National Rifle Association dinner in Anchorage Saturday, the group reported on its blog. The NRA did not reveal the content of her remarks, but described them as “a stirring speech on 2nd Amendment rights.” Reporters were not invited to observe the event.

The former Republican vice presidential candidate was also given lifetime memberships in several local gun clubs, and the NRA’s Gold Medal Award of Merit for the Promotion of Gun Collecting.

Palin has not yet given a media interview since leaving officen and has yet to re-launch her Twitter feed after leaving her goubernatorial account behind. Last week, her spokeswoman said that she had never committed to, and would not be attending, a GOP event at the Reagan library at which organizers had expected her to appear.

Not sure on this maybe an accountant can weigh in on this to be sure, but by accepting lifetime membership in these clubs isn't that considered income? Does she need to pay taxes on that income. It would only be tax exempt if she paid for the membership and if they were real non-profit organizations. But given that they gave her the membership, then that is income to her. So is that taxable to her?

Also, why didn't they tell us about what she said? Did she just blab on and on again and again and again with no real focus? Her 15 minutes are up.

Sarah Palin does this kind of thing for one reason only, to get paid $$. So the NRA threw in some memberships and an award to round out the whole deal.

I have many concerns about people who love to kill.

When the Second Amendment was passed it took 18 single and separate operations to fire ONE bullet. That same amendment now covers guns that can fire over 500 bullets per minute. Time for an update?

I saw a bumper sticker in Florida that said "Gun control means using two hands": Another one said: :Gun control means killing what you're aiming at"

Guns are ok, I'm not a fan of the NRA and don't endorse them, and definitely think Palin is a train wreck like the rest of the socialist nazi GOP. Americans are definitely not thinking about whether Palin or the NRA. We are focused on getting our economy back and helping our president and the administration. I'm down with Whitehouse, Yeah you know me!! Peace out my brothers

Republicans will support gun rights for all but not health care for all. Is there something wrong with that picture?

But Sarah, don't you see that if you DON'T invite the press you won't be able to get mileage out of your 'crazy juice' induced speeches? You're depriving the rightwingnuts that are the core of your support base, of all of your hate-filled, Bible-thumping, F-16 waiving, irrelevant , lie-based venomous rhetoric. And that would SUCH a waste.

Is this a surprise to anyone? The woman can't keep her mouth shut and whines whenever someone comments on what she says. If you cant take the heat stay out of the kitchen!

I give her a few months of speaking her mind through these so-called conservative groups and she will say the wrong thing and get herself in very hot water with the Republican party. She is the worst spokesperson that they could dream up. They already have Rush to deal with.

The second ammendment did not cover assult weapons, or executing animals from airplanes. Leave it to people like Palin and all will be carrying side arms everywhere, and watch what happens then. So you like people being able to shoot up grade schools, and then take on the police. What a sad, sick state of affairs.

I am amazed at how foolish some people are by running out and buying up all these guns. They think that the new administration will take away their right to protect themselves. I guess the question I have is how many times have you read about someone using a gun to protect themselves or their family, versus the number of times a gun was used to kill someone or commit a crime. Even though I don’t like guns, I don’t have a problem with hunters owning a rifle or two, or someone owning a handgun. What I object to is when people start owning assault rifles and hoarding twenty or thirty handguns in their home. There is no reason why the average citizen needs such firepower.
