Palin gives 'stirring' gun rights speech at NRA dinner, says group

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/07/06/art.palinclap0706.gi.jpg caption=" Palin's fans have been clamoring for her to re-launch her Twitter feed."](CNN) - She’s gone Twitter-silent since leaving office last week – but former Alaska governor Sarah Palin has spoken out publicly for the first time since her resignation, according to the nation’s largest gun rights group.

Palin addressed a National Rifle Association dinner in Anchorage Saturday, the group reported on its blog. The NRA did not reveal the content of her remarks, but described them as “a stirring speech on 2nd Amendment rights.” Reporters were not invited to observe the event.

The former Republican vice presidential candidate was also given lifetime memberships in several local gun clubs, and the NRA’s Gold Medal Award of Merit for the Promotion of Gun Collecting.

Palin has not yet given a media interview since leaving officen and has yet to re-launch her Twitter feed after leaving her goubernatorial account behind. Last week, her spokeswoman said that she had never committed to, and would not be attending, a GOP event at the Reagan library at which organizers had expected her to appear.

Good for her. Now she can go back to Alaska, pull out her automatic Assault rifle, get into a helicopter and go moose hunting. "We eat, therefore we hunt...." HUH? And people actually think this dim-wit is presidential material? GO ahead and win the 2012 nomination Fido. You'll quit before election day and THEN you can disappear forever. For now, though I thoroughly enjoy the inane blather

What is the NRA hiding that they don't want media attention?

I'm sure it was stirring. Stir in fear, paranoia, half-truths, and trite slogans that even her fans can understand. Must have been exciting. Now please, report on something of substance.

This is the only subject on which this character seems to know anything at all ..GUNS..

To those who would actually pay to hear this person speak ( it had to be torture to anyone who has an ear for English) let's hope it was at least "stirrin'".. It must have been that moment when she raised her arm, air pumped, and winked..you betcha!

Looks like she's doing a Subway '$5 Footlong' commercial...which is about the only job she is qualified for.

Women's groups are desperate to have Sarah speak but she chooses to show up with gun lovers instead? What an idiot. I'm sick of the American Taliban – Bible in one hand, gun in the other. This has nothing to do with Jesus. Its all about power, and Sarah will have no power if my vote counts for anything!

I'm curious as to why Mrs. Palin didn't want the media present, if not to ask questions then to at least report to the public as to what is discussed. Rush Limbaugh I believe also likes to control what is reported about himself, instead of open discussion.

I think that it is manifestly unfair of Sarah to deny her followers their daily twitter.

After all, that's the only reading most of them are likely to do.

This is exactly the type of crowd she covets. She can be as racist, hateful, and "stirring" as she wants with no reporters to cover any of it. Sounds sort of covert to me. She is there just for the division. She thrives on causing rifts between people. Gun collecting? Laughable!

So, right-wing gun freaks hold a secret meeting and listen to a speech from a quitter with the depth of the Platte river, and call themselves true, flag-waving patriots? Not in my book.

  14. Confusion reigns with Sarah

Of course the reporters weren't invited, the last ramblings William S. had interrupt it with poetry.

Stop reporting on this dumb lady. Who cares – her next speech will be confusing and gibberish as the rest of them.....!

If she had been invited to this event and ample notice was given her, she should attend and give a speech to this group at the Reagan Library. She should not miss any speaking opportunity from supporters and loyalists.

Wow, she made a speech in support of gun rights in front of the NRA, that takes real guts. How I admire her moxie, to stand up there in front of people who agree with your position before you even speak, all I can say is wow. Will she speak about a strong military at a military base next?

Anyone that thinks this woman gives a great speech or would make a great leader should not be allowed to vote. I haven't heard one speech where she makes any kind of coherent sense. It's just mind numbing gibberish.

    Political chicanery anyone?

Isn't the point of the NRA to Promote Gun Rights? Is Palin giving a Secret Speech doing that? Oh yeah, the secret speech makes members get out there and tell others about the 'stirring speech' that was awesome, though they can't share the speech. Rrrriiiiiigggghhhtt.

Maybe they can get her in office and she can shove through HER own legislation. LOL.

Once again, Palin plays CNN for the fool. Keep on reporting on this nonperson, CNN. Please, keep it up.

Er, was the editor here asleep at the wheel? It's not speaking out publicly if it wasn't in public and the remarks weren't made publicly available.

I really wish she would just go away. Its time for serious people in this country and she is not serious. She is like a bad joke dropped at the first sign of trouble. Mississippi wants you to fade away. I wish the republicans would put someone up that is serious for a change. Someone that admits that evolution and global warming are real, or at least a possibility. Someone that can actually work with someone over the aisle. Someone that wouldn't start a war on a lie. Someone who would not send this country into the abyss and have the gall to say the next person caused it. Step up republicans and admit your Senate 12 or the last 14 years, and you president 8 or the last 8.5 caused all this mess. Just admit it and move on.

    Headline "Palin Breaks Silence"
hmmm. don't you have to BE silent to break the silence. If she's not in the national headlines for a couple days suddenly she's "silent" and FINALLY breaks the silence. Please.
