Palin gives 'stirring' gun rights speech at NRA dinner, says group

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/07/06/art.palinclap0706.gi.jpg caption=" Palin's fans have been clamoring for her to re-launch her Twitter feed."](CNN) - She’s gone Twitter-silent since leaving office last week – but former Alaska governor Sarah Palin has spoken out publicly for the first time since her resignation, according to the nation’s largest gun rights group.

Palin addressed a National Rifle Association dinner in Anchorage Saturday, the group reported on its blog. The NRA did not reveal the content of her remarks, but described them as “a stirring speech on 2nd Amendment rights.” Reporters were not invited to observe the event.

The former Republican vice presidential candidate was also given lifetime memberships in several local gun clubs, and the NRA’s Gold Medal Award of Merit for the Promotion of Gun Collecting.

Palin has not yet given a media interview since leaving officen and has yet to re-launch her Twitter feed after leaving her goubernatorial account behind. Last week, her spokeswoman said that she had never committed to, and would not be attending, a GOP event at the Reagan library at which organizers had expected her to appear.

Does poor poor Sarah even know what the second amendment is? And with the stupid things she rambles on about, I wouldn't let reporters in either. Why would she want to be fodder for the media and comedians? But then when you think about it, it has never stopped her before. As usual her mouth moves in favor of what organization has its hand in her puppet head.

When George Bush left office, I wondered where all the failures in life would direct their venom and vitriol in lieu of looking in the mirror. Who can we blame for our fate in life?

Just click on the comments section of any CNN article that has Sarah Palin in the headline.

I am so thankful I haven't been dealt such a lousy deck of card in life that I have to direct so much hate towards somebody who does not even hold any office or has no effect whatsoever in my life.

If radical islamic terrorism reaches our shores, you limp wristed liberals will be hiding behind someone with a NRA hat. Statistics show that a well armed community has the lowest crime rates. Take away guns and only the criminals will have them. We live in reality, not fantasyland. Gangs are in our major cities, drug lords from Mexico have come across our borders, muslims are being indoctinated in the mosques, and you want to disarm the citizens? There's a funny bumper sticker that says: "My wife, yes. My Dog, maybe, My Gun, NEVER"

Therefore, how do we know that she and the NRA didn't make a threat on the President? How do we know the hateful, racist klan remarks that was said...no wonder they don't want to release the content of her message.

Perhaps the FBI needs to investigate what went on.

Amazing that 69 % of the birthers and Palin supporters are from the South. Go figure! Appears to me that these two facts are as interbred as the residents of dixie!

I hope Ms. Palin keeps herself in the mainstream media long enough to hopefully win the GOP party nomination next time around. That way we're pretty much guaranteed to keep the Dems in the Oval Office for quite some time.

Obamabots- Why do you need big brother (wasteful fed govt) being your babysitters?? think for yourselves. The constitution is based on local and state rights...not Obama telling us what to think, buy, and do.

We need to speak up against Hugo Jr... Barack.

No reporters because they don't want President Teleprompter to learn how to speak unaided. Go Sarah!!

I see the anti-gun nuts are out in force here this morning. You might start wanting to worry about Obama's plan to have all your private financial information open for government scrutiny without your knowledge. It's in the health care bill.

Wow. Speech on 2nd Amendment while thumbing nose at 1st Amendment. Nothing like being able to pick and choose from your consititution you like. Oh–depends on which one is self-serving at the moment? Let's see how much she likes the 1st Amendment when her so-called book comes out and she wants press...and I hope she doesn't get it. Stop covering her. The only ratings she gets are people who want a good laugh at her idiocy.

Well the NRA is an appropriate rock for her to slither under. Expect her next at the Rape The Earth conference, the Dyslexics for Kange rally and in the pulpit of the Megachurch of the Screaming Lunatic.

Why can't this idiot just keep her mouth shut.

She is rapidly becoming the poster child for what is wrong with the republican party.

    Scandal, lies, corruption and incompetence.

    You gotta love this!

Ahhh, I see the Grand-Ol-Palin Party (GOPP) is alive and well. Has anyone noticed how little the talk has been about George W. Bush's eight-year presidency and how little he has to say now? Stupidity has its price – two mismanaged wars, a polarized people, and a bungled economy – and that is price we would pay again if we elect this no-nothing, do-nothing fashion queen.

Every time I see the blistering insults hurled against NRA members, I become more entrenched in my belief that what the NRA stands for is worth fighting for. I cringe when I think of what this country would become if the NRA (thanks to its individual members) were not as powerful as it is. Our group and its legislative efforts have survived the Gun Control Act, the Assault Weapons Ban, and other attempts to undermine the Second Amendment. Now we have the Heller decision, and a momentum to reinforce gun ownership, self defense, concealed carry, and other gun-related sports. And all that despite a Democratically controlled Congress and a liberal President. If there is any bright light in this current political climate, that is it.

    Sarah Palin,

Why is this woman still talking? Who is she going to shoot? Some turkey?

Why doesn't she just fade away.

It's funny to see just how scared the left is of Palin. Your messiah is dropping in the polls like a rock and you don't have a clue what Sarah is up to.
This is going to be fun to watch!!!!

All you Palin-haters probably haven't noticed how many of Obama's promises have been broken, but then, why would you? You voted for that smooth, reassuring voice, those feel-good phrases, and the way he made you think he was out for your best interests. Just because he can form a complete sentence (occasionally without his teleprompter) doesn't make him an honest man.

I'd say you all "acted stupidly" by falling for all that.

By the end of his term those of you who pay taxes will find your tax bill bigger than your take home pay, an those who don't pay taxes will actually be taking home more than you do; and finally, we will all be 'equal'.

How's that Obama thing working for you?

    Any questions?

  25. Get a life

If you all are so against Sarah palin, I don't understand why you spent the time to read the article and respond to it. if as you all say, you don't want to hear about her or from her, then why take the time to read and respond? She has some valid points about what is happening in our government. Is she presidential materail, maybe not yet but she is at the very least standing up for the American rights that our current government is taking away. Get a job, pay your own bills, and quit waiting for a hand out from the government and working tax payers!
