First daughters balance privilege and pressure

(CNN) - Luci Baines Johnson was just 16 years old when she approached her father, President Johnson, with what she considered a reasonable request.

"I asked my father if we could have the Beatles come to play at the White House," she recalled. "I was very excited about it."

His response? A decisive no, "without even any moment of trying to soften the blow," Johnson said in a recent phone interview.

The president thought the move would be viewed as self-serving. His daughter, however, saw it as a chance to honor "a great talent" and strengthen ties between the United States and Great Britain - not to mention a golden opportunity for her and her friends.

Oh Yes we all know about privilege. The Obama Girls get to attend the elite Friends School. While the President stops vouchers for the poor DC Children to attend the same school. I guess Obama likes social classes. Lets keep the downtrodden downtrodded! How's that hope and change workin for ya?

    A very interesting article.

We often forget that humans live in the White House, not only public servants.

I happen to know someone whose daughter is at school with the Obama girls. They are lovely, extremely well-behaved, intelligent and above all quite modest. Obviously a good upbringing !

Where is an article on John Edwards??????? Seems that the 2004 VP candidate is a whole lot more criminal and objectionable than Sarah Palin...... yet the liberal media continues to ignore it.

I am very happy that Sasha and Malia have their grandmother living with them in the White House. Her influence and constant supervision will help give them a sense of balance and normalcy amidst their new surroundings. Additionally, Pres. and Fist Lady are PHENOMENAL parents. They make sure to attend the girl's school activities, while dealing with the demands of the presidency. They are no-nonsense parents that made their way in life. The lack of a 'silver spoon' upbringing for the First Couple will help ensure that proper values continue to be instilled, and that the girls stay grounded within their "priviledged" world.

LBJ was right in rejectin' his daughter's demand about the Beatles. But then why do we think about Ronnie honorin' MJ at white house?

Too bad the Obamas didn't do this when the Jonas Brothers made a special trip to see the kids at the White House. For all they say about treating them normally, their actions very often prove otherwise. Also note the entertainment family interview where they allowed them to participate, not to mention the umpteen magazine covers they've graced. Please note we didn't hear Chelsea's voice until she was 27 yrs. old. And for all you who want to rag on the Bush girls and their drinking, try reading BO's bio where he discusses his own drug use at their age. I guess it's a good thing he was never arrested for it since I don't think felons can run for POTUS
