Court: Palin was allowed to use private e-mail

(CNN) - A Superior Court judge in Alaska has ruled that former Gov. Sarah Palin was allowed to conduct official state business on a private e-mail account.

Anchorage resident Andree McLeod - who has filed multiple ethics complains against Palin - had sued the former Republican vice presidential nominee claiming that the use of private e-mails denied citizens the right to request public records.

But Judge Jack W. Smith ruled Wednesday that nothing in Alaska law prevents state officials from using private e-mail accounts.

Can someone explain what he is talking about? Anyone? Will have to wait for Gibby to explain what he really said.

Holy cow. She quit. She's done. Just drop all of the lawsuits and negative coverage and let her fade into obscurity. Why does everyone hate her so much?

I new it. This confirms that she is a racist, dumb, and wants to destroy our country. Just because she is pretty doesn't mean she is smart. For all the geniuses on the left this is sarcasm. All the other emails will be from you hate mongers who dislike Palin because she is a threat to your socialist values!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like Anchorage resident Andree McLeod, with his multiple ethics complaints, needs to go out and find himself a real job.

  7. You lose all credibility when you say Palin is smart

No one is going to understand her emails anyway. Your gonna need the character from the Dan Brown novels to do that.

Why is it when anyone asks questions about Ms Palin, it is because we are afraid of her or picking on her, but she can stand up in front of thousands and tell blatant lies and accuse President Obama of consorting with terrorists and it is just fine? Frankly I'm not afraid of her - in a contest of wits, she is unarmed! What scares me is the number of people who listen and swallow whole the nonsense she spouts.

The comments about closing the loophole are correct, too. If private mail is subject to public record review for our public officials, then private email should be too. And I would also agree that there is something definitely fishy about using private email for government business. Why would you do that unless it was something you wanted to bury or hide?

Oh look, CNN actually posted good news on Sarah Palin. I expect Sarah to be the first woman President in 2013.

"but she can stand up in front of thousands and tell blatant lies and accuse President Obama of consorting with terrorists and it is just fine?"

Because it wasn't a lie. Research William Ayers and his wife.

If organizations like CNN had done their jobs, instead of doing everything they could to avoid ethical journalism, you'd know this.

  12. Enlightened Voter

Palin, the clueless pathological liar, spouted hatred and lies consistently during the campaign against now President Obama. Now you people wonder we PROUD LIBERAL DEMOCRATS dislike her? Not to mention she is dumb as a box of rocks. And people when you call us Liberals, it's not an insult to us, it's a badge of pride and we thank you for that. If you really want to insult or attack us then call us conservative/republicans! Yikes! Now that would be an insult.

You can see the DNC always has to drum up business for their main constituent the scum bag lawyers. This is why we will never get Tort reform and Obamacare will be a rocky road at best.

There may not be a law that prohibits the use of personal e-mail, but using it to conduct state business is shady. There should be transparency in the government, regardless of which party is in charge. If you have nothing to hide, then you shouldn't have to use a personal account. Plain and simple. While a lawsuit wasn't necessary in this case, she should have used better judgement.

I'm not a Palin fan, but frivolous lawsuits are a waste of time.

Jackie I think you have lost your mind. Consorting with terrorists! Just because Al Jazeera and the Daily Kos may say that it doesn't mean it is true. Even those 2 outlets which are probably your favorite news sources are inaccurate on occasion!!!!!!!!!

Well if CNN and the rest of the media can make news from exerpts un substantiated and unchallenged, why would it be seen as unusual for her to use her email account?

What is happening to respect for the rule of law. It seems to me the remedy is to change the law in Alaska to require that official communications are to be done through official channels.

The Judge in Alaska did something radical. he followed the law. I am no supporter of Governor Palin. I do support the rule of law.

This is not a liberal vs conservative issue. Either you believe in the rule of law or you don't..

Governor Palin will be judged by the electorate should she seek elected office. It just seems that resigning a job that you were elected to do is a slap in the face to the people who supported your campaign and who voted for you. The excuse about being a lame duck is ludicrous. Had Governor Palin kept her plans to herself, she may have changed her mind and run again.

RIP Sarah Palin. Hopefully your brief time upon the political stage is over.

Sarah Palin: God's gift to Liberalism. I'm glad she was exhonorated. I want that gal heading the Republican ticket in 2012. And I want her going all around the country making speeches for the next 3 years.

I want all voters to see what Conservatism is all about and who Conservatives really are.

I am a Liberal, and very proud of it.

Our Court System needs a "Loser Pays" approach to frivolous law suits like this!

HOW much did the State of Alaska & Palin family spend to defend against this and other suits from Andree McLeod??

Send the ALL the legal bills to this idiot – McLeod.

if a public official uses a private email account for official business then those emails are part of the public record and must be turned over the the parties requesting them under the Freedom of Information act.

Just wait until you find out Palin was falsely vilified in the press and that the so-called "death panel" is real.

It is actually called the "Independent Medicare Advisory Council.”

It will consist of five bureaucrats to be hand-picked by President Obama.

They will have the power to determine how Medicare money will be spent (i.e. how much money will be spent on various healthcare services).

Palin was wrong about one thing: you won't even get the privilege of standing in front of them.

Check out President Obama's "Independent Medicare Advisory Council” at the White House website or just type it into your favorite search engine.

Great. Then the suit should simply be re-filed in federal court where the laws are clearer.

    Specific to "United States",

Please tell the truth. Jackie is right. Sara Palin repeatedly claimed that Obama "consrted with terrorists" in her campaign stump speeches.

Sara Palin may call for civility from her followers at town hall meetings – but don't believe her Cheshire Cat smile for one minute – she will use lies and slander whenever she can get away with it.
