Obama's political arm release new health care video

WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Obama's political operation released a new Web video Friday highlighting the story of a cancer patient whose insurance coverage was taken away after she was diagnosed with the disease.

The two-minute video, produced by Organizing for America, criticizes the insurance industry's practice of rescission - "a policy of retroactively canceling health insurance after a patient becomes ill." The video shows the story of Robin Beaton, a retired nurse from Waxahachie, Texas, who was told days before her scheduled double mastectomy to remove cancerous tumors that her insurance plan had dropped her coverage.

OFA released the video in advance of Obama's health care town hall meeting in Montana where he will talk about the issue of rescission.

This new video will say nothing new! There are no details because the Senate does not even have a bill and the house bill is not a bill, just a draft. Sorry, I'm not buying it and no, this is not racist! Why do free thinking people scare the pants off of the liberals? Don't tell me about GOP talking points when you are reading from a script!

Changes to insurance that protect those with insurance from losing it when they get sick or lose their job and allowing those with a pre-existing conditon to purchase it are fine. And we don't need a public option to do that.
Any changes to private plans that would lead to them going away is not acceptable. And any government regulations or restrictions that would tell doctors and patients what tests, procedures or medications are allowed is not acceptable.
We don't need an expansive growth in government with all kinds of new agencies and panels and regulations and a public option that all comes with a trillion dollar plus cost to make the changes needed to
get everyone covered and to increase security for those who already are.
Congress needs to go back and write a new bill that does not involve an expansive and instrusive growth in government.

"It does not work in Europe and it does not work in Canada.
WE have the greatest health care in the world."

i mean... this is demonstrably untrue.

we have significantly worse otucomes, at significantly higher cost than canada has.

i dont begrudge you the right to bemoan the promise of government controlled healthcare, but lets be clear about the facts at least.

the cost of healthcare in the country is increasing as a portion of GDP at an unsustainable rate. saying "get a better job" is adolescent sloganeering, and doesnt address the fact that our model and our trajectory are not sustainable.

Same old question Mr. Obama, when are you actually going to do something about the driving force of insurance healthcare premiums instead of trying to nationalize or socialize our healthcare industry? If you put as much effort into regulating trial lawyers and insurance companies as you have with this crap of a bill you would pass it in your sleep! It is funny watching you liberals scramble now that America has awakened, I think you will soon find we are all done paying for your mindless bullcrap!

In 2010 vote them all out, investigate them and make them accountable!

You, people opposing the health care reform are fighting for the prosperity of health insurance companies. There are so many cases cited where health insurance companies broke their pledges to pay for the treatment of their members as they promised or even dropped the policy the minute the member is diagnosed with a disease that requires operation, surgery, and long-term hospitalization and care that could cost them hundreds thousands of dollars. That is fraud and exploitation of the ignorant. That is why most of them denied membership to people with pre-existing health conditions and old people who are likely to get sick, because, unlike the government, they're not about giving more than they can receive. And furthermore, most of those insurance companies are called private insurers, but they actually belong to government big shots, namely republicans. So by all means, they have reason to oppose any plan that will likely reduce the numbers of their victims and their profit. That’s why they call it "health insurance" rather than "illness or sickness insurance. It is for the healthy not for the ill. And any healthy member who becomes ill breaks their promise to stay healthy and as a consequence their policy is dropped and membership cancelled. How about that? And this is the insurance plan you are all fighting to keep. Well there is an old adage. “You can force the donkey to cross the river, but you cannot force him to drink from it. I wish you all stupid morons good luck.

If a public *option* is "socialism," absolutely everything the government does is "socialism!"

"Repairing interstate highways: socialism! Pick yourself up by your bootstraps and repair them yourself!"

"Public schools and homeschool support systems: socialism! Pick yourself up by your bootstraps, quit your job and teach your kids everything by yourself!"

"Firefighting: socialism! Pick yourself up by your bootstraps, grab the garden hose and deal with that housefire problem of yours, you lazy bum!"

"Medicare/medicaid: socialism! Pick yourself up by your bootstraps, get out of retirement, and get a job as a Walmart greeter!"

"Police: socialism! Pick yourself up by your bootstraps, buy a crossbow and shoot at the tires of reckless drivers!"

"This is America, not Soviet Russia after all!"

Oh wait, America is a capito-socialist democratic republic, and has been throughout the post industrial revolution, and we should be darn proud of it.

    Get a clue, Republican anarchists!

Are there African-Americans, Spanish-Americans, or Asian-Americans against Health Care Reform? Cause I do not see them at the town hall meetings…. Or is the media covering a one-sided town hall meeting? Cause America is a makeup of different races.

Health care reform is now dead in 2009. Maybe they can try again next year, if the democrats survive the 2010 elections and aren't replaced by Republicans.

Pretty funny how their are not enough Dems to pass healthcare.
    Do you know why.
    Because it is wrong.
    It is socialism.
    This is America People.
You have to get up every day put your pants on and go to work if you want to succeed.
You cant be lazy. You cant have the goverment pay for your children.
You cant sleep all day. You can not be a bum on the street.
You have to get a job, 2 jobs if need be and go to work.
Goverment involvement is not the answer.
Goverment spending is not the answer.
Goverment taking all of our money is not the answer.
STOP spending and cut the stimulus package now.
I so glad you are the minority and will be for very long time!

President Obama, I hope this is your last town hall meeting. They are a waste of time. The only people that realize that all you're doing is FULFILLING a major campaign promise (what a novel idea!) are those of us that voted for you.
So, the opposing view is a waste of time? Fulfilling major campaign promises? Which ones? Transparency? No lobbyists in the administration? A five day public review of any bill prior to being signed into law? Look, I am saddened by the name calling, lack of respect, yelling, and bullying at these town halls (ON BOTH SIDES), BUT they are NOT a waste of time. It is democracy! 42% approve of the way healthcare is being handled. Listening to the other 58% a waste of time? UNBELIEVABLE!

I am Supporting the President 100%. The people that are creating so much havoc with their lies and fear-mongering are nothing more than spoiled, selfish children set out on revenge for losing the election and ignorant bigots that do not care one minute about the people that are dying and going without care because of the horrid healthcare system in this Country right now. They are void of telling the truth and fairly representing facts and seem perfectly happy having ignorant lies shoved down their throat to be a parrot at what should be civil discussions. Unfortunately, the screaming ignorant get the air time because the media wants the ratings. Get a grip people and start asking for the truth instead of just rating baiting headlines. Get off your butts and do your own research, your the only one you're going to believe anyway and for God's sake give credit where credit is due. President Obama is working to deliver his campaign promise. Do I need to remind this Country that he was elected by the majority with a mandate. You, that are yelling get the government out of my life are certainly welcome to go to another country and just try to live your same life style. As far as the congress not having time to read the bill – GET FRIGGIN REAL – You've had weeks and weeks to educate yourselves on this issue. WOW, did you just fall off the turnip truck yesterday. I've studied it and my day starts at 6am and usually runs until midnight. Do your job and quit whinning and stalling. Are you waiting for another donation from Big Pharma????? Revenge, greed, manipulation, corruption, false allegations, lies, hypocrisy and bigotry are what is fueling this opposition. It is NOT concern for American People or the budget. Dear God, look what they handed this new administration last November. How quickly and easily people forget. GET EDUCATED on this issue and for God's sake use your common sense and your own mind.

In this debate it is important to remember the "the media" are not neutral. They have corporate bosses and sponsors that ultimately control the content – no matter how loudly they protest this is not so. Think about advertising dollars and the truth becomes clear. As is always true if you follow the money you will understand.

The only way the majority of Americans will be heard if is we contribute our own hard earned money to buy time and space to air our views – it certainly will not be given freely.

You've got to hand it to the Republicans. What a marketing job! They manage to convince the very people who would benefit the most from a more Euro-style society to fight the hardest against it. I'm the almost lone Democrat working at my company. I labor in a sea of right wing people who just love Sean Hannity, Glen Beck, Limbaugh, and Sarah Palin. Believe me, no amount of logic, facts, figures, or statistics has any impact whatsoever on these people. Apparently they want to turn back the clock to some mythical Golden Age in America. Possibly this was around 1870 or so. White men ran everything, women and blacks knew their place, there was no income tax, no workers compensation, no Social Security, no Medicare, no government oversight of air quality, water quality, or food safety, no gun regulations, no – nothing. This is their ideal. President Obama is a great optimist because he believes that these right wingers are teachable; that they will respond to reasoned and logical argument. He is sadly mistaken. You cannot reason with lunatics. So, I hope he will take off the gloves, tighten up the Democrats in Congress, and simply ride roughshod over the opposition. The country needs health care reform – with a public option. The insurance companies need to be decisively reined in and regulated – as they are in Europe. This is what we voted for Obama to do. Decisive change now! I support the President 100% – but he needs to get fired up and lead and apply the pressure. Cool reason, logic, and good will alone won't cut it. Some real arm twisting a la Lyndon Johnson will!

There are plenty or reasonable ways to drive down insurance costs without completely changing the system and increasing an already unsustainable deficit. How about tort reforn, allowing cross state line buying of insurance, pooling various companies employees to create a large customer base for insurance companies to bid(compete) for, etc. etc. Than we can tackle insurance companies dropping folks and not granting insurance for pre-existing conditions. Forcing people into the Gov plan is wrong except for the small majority that do not have insurance. If you think it is optional to keep your current insurance- see section 102 of the bill regarding "Grandfathered Plans". The government ultimately will have the entire population under the government plan based on these regulations.... Read up America – most of you are commenting on something you have not even read. There is a better solution!!!!

Somebody actually posted and blamed Bush for losing their health insurance? Guess what – I don't know why you lost your health insurance but one, Bush could not make an employer a lousy business and two, Bush could not force you to be more employable. There is no reason you should not accept responsibility for losing your health insurance. My advice to you: plan ahead, save money, prepare for the worst situation and always work to improve yourself. This is how you keep health insurance in any situation and make yourself more independent. Your life is your responsibility – suck it up.
