(CNN) – Connecticut Democrat Sen. Chris Dodd was released Saturday from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center after surgery to treat early stage prostate cancer, Dodd’s office said in a statement.
“Senator Dodd was released from the hospital earlier today and is at home in East Haddam with his family,” Dodd spokesman Bryan DeAngelis said in the statement. “He is recovering well from Tuesday’s surgery and looks forward to getting back to work later this month on behalf of the people of Connecticut.”
Maybe they did a lobotomy while they were at it.
Maybe now Dodd will support greater funding for prostate cancer research, since prostate cancer kills almost as many men as breast cancer kills women, yet receives a fraction of the funding.
I didn't know he was having BRAIN surgery! How did I miss that!?
I am so glad he is on the preferential tax payer covered medical insurance (the one they will not give the citizens, or agree to give up). Otherwise, it probably would not be cost effective at his age to have this surgery. After all, most prostate cancers are slow growth, and a couple more years is about all the productivity he would be expected to give society.
I've lived in the USA for 30 years and I'm a Brit who was 8 years old when the British National Health Service came into being in 1948. A previous poster made a statement about how, under a NHS, the corrupt Senator from Connecticut (Dodd) would have to wait 2 to 3 years under Obama's health care system and then be denied drugs and would probably have died.
I cannot comment on the proposed US system because one has not been drawn up but I can (personally) post my exerience under the British National Health System.
I was diagnosed with kidney cancer on a Tuesday, I was operated on the following Thursday and the kidney removed. The care was as good or if not better than I have received here in the USA for a prostate operation. The cost in the UK was zero. The cost of the follow up drugs in the UK was zero. The cost of all the follow-ups was zero. The co-payment of my prostate operation in the USA was $3,000. I have other age related problems including mild COPD and high blood pressure. It the USA it costs $70 a month co-pay for the COPD drug and $40 a month for the high blood pressure drug. That is AFTER I pay for my medicare.
Take your choice.
He has worked tirelessly for us in Ct and I say, Godspeed recovery. Take it easy in this August recess!
How many times do we have to repeat again and again that IF YOU LIKE YOUR INSURANCE you can keep it. Read the bill and stop parotting the talk shows.
I wonder what his co-pay was?
Be well Sen. Dodd.....lucky for you that you DO have good medical care!
CNN, please post something regarding the prisoners of Evin...it is so heartbreaking that are being used as scapegoats in the ME media...God help them...let us give voice in support of them!
I wish Senator Dodd a speedy recovery. He has done much good, starting with the years he spent in the Peace Corps and continuing to today with all the good he has done for the people of CT.
my wife came home after her breast cancer surgery also no big deal was made of that, so who cares.
Just to wish him well and quick recovery.
The man has paid the dues. he has some good policies and some real bad ones. At his age I hope he quietly retires and makes room for people that can think more clearly than he does. Wish the righties had done that with Regan. It would have prevented the big downward tumble the nations ecomony started under him and a whole host of failed ideas.
that said, thank you for your service to this country and should you retire? Maybe let the younger generation have a go at running the country
While I would not wish cancer on my worst enemy, Sen. Dodd along with Nancy, Harry and the rest to to get out of DC. I am ashamed to say they are representing our country. They are the biggest bullies in the DC playground. I do hope he has a speedy and succesfull recovery. If he needs any advice on cancer, I sure could give him an discussion that he would not be ready for.
I wonder if his doctor thought about treating him with diet and weight loss before he choose the higher payout for surgery as President Obama seems to be constantly accusing doctors of doing. He probably couldn't have even gotten that needless PSA test under Obamacare.
Wow, how hateful people can be. I bet they call themselves christian.. so sad... God bless you Senator Dodd..
How much out of pocket did he have to pay?
nothing to do with this story, but um, repukes, you kept asking why Hillary didnt get the girls from N Korea or the loon from Myanmar, well MORONS because the White House does NOT deal with those countries. We have no diplomatic ties to them, geez, did you losers even finish high school, let alone college. I am never at a loss for hope that the right continue to dig the hole....They never let me down, Learn about this country you CLAIM to love and want back..idiots
Boy there sure are some small minded twits out there, like Ridgeway, Jon,and Anonymous (who is obviously too cowardly to use his own name). I'm guessing all you sore losers who voted for McCain and disrupt town meetings. You lowlifes ought to be ashamed of yourselves.
Obama did win in 2008, no one denies that, but we aren't going to let him get away with any of these crazy socialist schemes just because we're waiting for the next election. We have the right to protest and stop those proposals that we don't believe in. Our freedom of speech is not suspended in odd-numbered years.
Done on his elite, ridiculously generous congressional healthcare plan.......not on the restrictive, rationed healthcare plan he wants imposed on us peasants.
If he would have had to rely on the same healthcare system that he and his party are trying to ram down the throats of the American people, he probably would have been dead before he would have gotten the surgery.
i hope and wish sara palin gets well someday.
