Tom DeLay trades political stage for the real thing

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Tom DeLay trades the national stage for the real thing later this month."]
(CNN) -
Political observers know former House Majority Leader Tom "The Hammer" DeLay can have a heavy hand - the question is, can he be light on his feet?

They'll find out later this month. The Texas Republican, who left Congress in 2006 amid controversy, will appear on this season of ABC's Dancing With the Stars, joining celebrities like Mya, Macy Gray, Aaron Carter, Ashley Hamilton, Melissa Joan Hart, Kelly Osbourne, Donny Osmond, Chuck Liddell and Michael Irvin, among others.

DeLay, who has largely kept a low profile since leaving the House, is president of a political consulting firm with offices in both Houston and the nation's capital. His turn on DWTS begins next week.

His redistricting ploys will not work on Dancing with the Stars. I'm sure he will try some type of gerrymandering on the show in order to win. He should be good at the Texas two-step which is a term we use here in Texas to describe a politician who says one thing and does another. Most of the rest of the country call it hypocrisy. Other politicians around the country are good at it, but no one can Texas two-step better than a real Texas politician and this is really what gave Delay his star quality in Texas. It's a tricky dance and you have to watch closely because most Texans never even know it happened when they are looking directly at it. That is why slick guys like Delay kept getting elected. Just when I thought that his music had stopped, the lights were turned out and he had left the building, Delay has reemerged to find new life. God help us all.

I have in the past watched this program and enjoyed it very much. This season I will not watch the program with this creep DeLay participating. I believe the program has an obligation to put decent people on the contestant list not corrupt, hard right wing demagogues.

Please spare me the details – I am sure Sarah Palin will be next.
Maybe a new show will be created for Sarah " What Not To Say"

You mean he's basically going to joing the Hollywood and its "elite"? Isn't this the same Hollywood he and his ilk of people constantly trash? Typical Republican hipocrasy.

Delay, like most poiticians, has already demonstrated his prwoess as a dancer. We've seen him do the Texas Side Step a thousand
    times !
Apparently there are no character prerequisites to this competition.

Thanks for telling me Danceing with the Stars has sunk this low as to invite criminals to the show. Who's next O.J. ? I won't watch them this series and maybe never again.

What is newsworthy about this? A phony disgraced politician gets a job on a so called reality feel good show. Who cares? It must be an awfully slow news day.

why did Michael Golubiewski feel the need to say the left was spewing venom – so many respondents didn't share their affiliation and I'd hope many on the right also guy's behavior inexcusable and his return to any stage an affront to their sensibilities and tolerance.

I love that show but he's the first one I'd vote off. He's very foolish to do this because he'll only get votes along party lines. I'll never vote Republican! Besides, he sucks!

  21. Is it 2013 yet?

So this is a story because it is an out of office Republican and we are somehow supposed to care about this guy?

Let me see, any real news out there this morning…….. hey here's a funny story about how Sebelius SUPPOSEDLY misspoke about the Obambi admin willing to not have the public option in the healthcare bill, another MISSPEAK, kind of like Sotomayor who "misspoke on 6-8 occasions"?

Kind of like when Barry said it was "retarded" or the cops acted "stupidly" or whenever BIDEN opens his mouth?

What's the deal CNN, no Palin stories tio provide cover for Obambi today?

This huckster or streetcorner charlatan is going to be a lame duck in less than a year from now as the coward in theif dosen't realize that the independents that ELECTED him are running from his BS and LIES in droves.

"I have never been for a single payer system" oopsy coward, we have you uh, uh, uh, uh on tape.

Say goodnight barry, experiment brutally failed.

Please educate me. What was Tom Delay ever convicted of? Last I checked, the "open-and-shut" case against him that prompted the indictment was coming up on four years of trial delays driven not by Tom Delay but the prosecuting district attorney. The same district attorney who did not let the fact that 5-6 grand juries refused to indict Tom Delay from convening a 7th grand jury to finally bring an indictment. Personally I don't think the case will ever come to trial, but that won't stop the Delay haters from spewing the word "criminal" ... so much for innocent until proven guilty, eh?

Since I never watch that show I would if his partner were Ann Coulter. At least they would be in-step. Even if it were lock-step. I would watch them trip the light fantastic.

Danving with the Stars is really scraping the bottom of the barrel with this one! Tom DeLay is an absolute scumbag – do a little checking on his relationship with Jack Abramoff, with all their fleecing of Indian casinos.

And how about DeLay's role in blocking legislation that would have improved the working conditions of sweatshop laborers in the Mariana Islands back in 2005? Or DeLay's role in taking lobbiest – at taxpayer expense – to Scotland for golf games?

These examples are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the moral bankruptcy of Tom DeLay. I don't care if he dances as well as Fred Astaire – DeLay was, is and always will be a scumbag.
