Elizabeth Edwards: I expect a paternity test on Hunter's child

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Elizabeth Edwards spoke to CNN's Larry King about the paternity of Rielle Hunter's 18-month-old daughter, Frances."]
(CNN) - Elizabeth Edwards, wife of former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, told CNN she believes a DNA test will be conducted to confirm the paternity of the child of Rielle Hunter, with whom her husband conducted an affair.

"My expectation is that at some point, something happens, and I hope for the sake of this child that it happens, you know, in a quiet way," she told CNN's Larry King Wednesday night.

John Edwards originally denied that he was the father of 18-month-old Frances, but has not denied recent reports that he may soon make a formal statement conceding his paternity.

His wife told King Wednesday that life continued as usual in the Edwards household. "Things are going fine. We are getting the children ready for a new school year, everything seems to be going pretty smoothly at my house. Thanks for asking," she said.

Mrs. Edwards, who is battling incurable cancer, told King that "the numbers don't look that optimistic, but I feel good." She said recent test results showed her in relatively good health. "I'm still out here fighting," she said.

I thought that cheating on your spouse was just part of being a Democrat politician. Someone forgot to clue her in.

I feel bad for her. She seems like a great wife, great mother, she is dying of cancer, and now is dealing with her husbands infadelity. Now there is a kid as a result of it.

Why is she still with him? I'm a man and I would never expect my wife to stick around after I did something like this. What is it with women that make them stick around?

Elizabeth Edwards was on Larry King Live to debate a very important health care matter and King lowered himself by bringing up this hurtful, tabloid topic. The media are covering this instead of the heartfelt, relevant and intelligent opinions she has about the health care debate. Shame on Larry King and your jounalist.

I wish you the best in the worst fight you have in your hands right now, that against your breast cancer; as a fellow cancer patient, I feel your physical and emotional pain, especially under the additional stress you now have to endure with the situation posed by your husband's infidelity and betrayal. He had us all fooled. You are a remarkable woman. God bless you.

I really liked John Edwards, it's too bad he fell into the all too common act of self destruction.

Women who stay with men who have not only cheated, but lied about it (and even deny their own flesh and blood) should be ashamed. I have NO respect for Mrs. Edwards or Hillary for not having the backbone to leave these cheating liars. Cheaters and liars are always cheaters and liars, and WERE always cheaters and liars. ALL CHEATING requires pre-meditation.

Why wasn't it done earlier? Still trying to cover things up, are they? Oh that's right. He's a politician. Lying is a way of life.

Some of you need to get a clue. There's a bigger picture here. This woman has terminal cancer and small children who are probably going to grow up without their mother. Should they lose their father now too? She's doing what she has to do, and any parent would understand that.

Gee, Liz, that's just great. Your house and all included are just fine, things are going pretty normal. I can tell you your kids wish their father and mother had been more honest and had some integrity so they didn't have to pretend things were so "normal." Who are you people, what planet do you live on that allows you to suck the air out of so many. It would have been better had you just left quietly. But you women and men just love the spotlight and Larry King loves to let you go on and on about 'your' dreams and 'your' life and 'your' family while those who lie for you you and cover up for you and who believed in you are left to pick up the pieces of their lives. You are all pretty pathetic.

Elizabeth, your husband is not the first senator to cheat on his wife. Ask Ted Kennedy how his first wife felt. She didn't get to go on the Larry King Show to complain.

Liz , no one in the media cares if you are sick and making a fool of your self. This must be a democrat thing because if she were a conservative all the libs would be writing in to bash her.

So where are all the Liberals railing on about the lack of character amongst their own rank and file?

These pages were filled with opinions on the Sanford saga and he didn't run for Commander and Chief, now its oddly silent.

It would serve LIBERALS well to realize the root word in "Sympathetic" is PATHETIC!

I've always thought that John Edwards was a fake and a light weight. I was glad that Kerrey picked him for his running mate because it mad that ticket even weaker.

Mrs. Edwards was on LKL to talk about healthcare reform, and she did a GREAT job. Shame on Larry King for asking her questions about her husband & taking the conversation into the mud. When is that old guy going to retire, anyway?

I don't care if you are (R) or (D), that has nothing to do with it. As men, we are supposed to go out and hunt and impregnate many women. That's what they're there for. It is crazy to think we should settle down with one forever and ever. That is silly.

Many of the "lefties" wanted Edwards for President? Many of you Rethuglicons wanted McCain for President! What's your point? There are womanizers, philanderers, and cheaters in both parties, (can you say Vitter, Ensign, Sanford) as you well know. McCain was no saint in that department either.
