WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Barack Obama offered strong praise Friday for this week's election in Afghanistan, calling it "an important step forward" in that nation's struggle for democracy and against ideological extremists.
"The future belongs to those who want to build, not ... destroy," Obama said at the White House.
The president said he was struck by the "courage in the face of intimidation" demonstrated by the millions of Afghans who went to the polls. He also emphasized that the United States does not favor any particular candidate.
"Our goal is clear: to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat al Qaeda and their extremist allies," he said.
Don't you just LOVE our President?! Even if you don't always agree with his policies, it's hard to deny that he's a smart, hard working guy – a class act.
DonnaLee – that's exactly what this election is doing. Pakistan's government is growing stronger and they are starting to uproot the Taliban with less and less help every day. By confirming this election, Obama has validated the new Afghan government. The next step is their development of a police force like Pakistan's so they can undertake this battle with the Taliban on their own. It is a process, and it will take time, but this is a very important step on the road. Just this morning I wrote a post on how this needed to happen and why, and Obama has done it for all the right reasons.
Isn't funny, when Bush was in office he was a horrible war monger that just wanted to kill people. Obama lied to you libs about leaving Iraq, he is still there, and he is raising the stakes in Afg. and now the story is about democracy.
Where are the war protest – COME ON YOU FAKES!!!!
Thank you, Mr Obama, for carrying on the righteous policies of the Bush Administration. It is obvious you now realize that unless we win this war, ALL Americans are in peril from the Fascist Islamic Extremists.
I am ready for the terrorists should they someday walk down my street. But I pray it never comes to that.
