Tennis, golf for Obama on day one

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Burton also revealed Obama is set to play golf later in the day."]

(CNN) - Among President Obama's first activities on Martha's Vineyard: a friendly tennis match against wife Michelle.

White House spokesman Bill Burton told reporters Monday on the Massachusetts island the first couple squared off earlier this morning, though it remains a secret who won.

Burton also revealed Obama is set to play golf later in the day with South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn, UBS CEO and major Obama supporter Robert Wolf, and White House aide Marvin Nicholson.

As for the rest of the week, Burton offered few details, saying the president himself doesn't even have a particular schedule.

"He's on vacation, so everything is a little bit loose," he said.

Burton, however, did dispel reports the president is planning on visiting ailing Sen. Ted Kennedy in nearby Hyannis Port.

"I heard some reports today that the Secret Service had visited Hyannis Port. I don't think that there's any reason to believe that there's any plan to go to Hyannis Port at this point," he said. "I think that if Secret Service agents were there, they probably heard like all of you already know, that they have great lobster rolls out there."

Burton also said it's unlikely Obama will spend much time mingling with residents of the 23-mile long island.

"His desire on Martha's Vineyard is to get a little break," he said. "He certainly appreciates the hospitality of the folks who are here, but his desire here is to relax and spend time with the family."

So health care reform is generating allot of need, like 47 million (purportedly) have none. Can we get some O-vacation-abama plan? You know, the 150 million (find a number that works) Americans who don't get paid vacations at the expense of the tax payer? Go poor us!

I am honestly shocked that you sincerely believe what you're posting, 'is a terrorist.'

I really.. just can't put words to how unbelievably gullible people can be to believe such nonesense.

I may not agree with everything the President does... but that's just plain fear mongering rhetoric.

His wife shouldn't need a vacation, she has 20 something people with a payroll of nearly two million a year to do whatever she wants them to do. Since when did the presidents wife get to have two million dollars a year of administrators? Laura Bush had one, Hilary Clinton had two.

My family had to take out a loan against retirement money to take a MISSION trip out of the country, but we did it because we felt it was the right thing to do. I wish I could afford a $35,000/week vacation spot.....

Good for him, first Hawaii, then Grand Canyon now New England while the seniors are getting a reduction in Social Security, how nice for the first family. Has he done any work since he took office????? A first lady wearing shorts to me that was the last straw, this is not a fashion statement, no other country in the world or its diplomats has ever allowed anything but complete decorum in their spouses.. I am ashamed of her wearing those shorts, but hey his popularity is falling and people are starting to find out his campaign was full of nonsense, the Jamaicans have a saying " a promise is a comfort to a fool" . Well America, how many of you are fools.

Our First Family deserves a Vacation and I hope they enjoy it. So much hate, so much anger, so much bitterness, so much envy from some of you. Some of you are miserable human beings and you want everyone to be as miserable as you are. Why don't some of you run for office. You will not because you don't have the intelligence or the stomach for it. Please think befor you Post. Stop whining and grow-up. You are just upset because Our President is African American.

For all of you who dont like the president and all the republicans out there it was Sarah who started all this first the way she conducted her campaign rallys and then coming out with the death panel deal. She has the country in a up roar, well she is the one who needs to be put on a death panel and see how she likes it then. And the republicans want to put some one out there like her in 2012 is a disgrace to our country. Sarah was on vacation the day she came off the campaign trail. She never did nothing to help alaska and then she just quits on the people out there. And how all she has to do is run her mouth on facebook.

They NEEDED a vacation? Who doesn't? These are difficult times for many Americans. Some people don't have homes to live in and some are going hungry. It is bad enough that our President feels he has to be wined and dined – but I wish he would keep it to himself and not flaunt it in everyone's face. A truly good presidential family, would stay home like the rest of us and spend a little less money. I heard they paid for their lodging out of their own pocket . . but what about their transportation and entourage? I think we, the people, picked up the tab for that.

Isn't America wonderful? Our Freedom of Speech guarantees that every rightwing nutjub within our borders gets to spout off about what a terrible job he's doing, how dare he take vacation, etc., etc., as if these people have the vaguest clue about anything. While it might be entertaining to see just how incredibly stupid most people can be, I think it's more sad than anything else. It's a shame that our precious resources are being consumed by those who quite honestly don't deserve spit.
