Tennis, golf for Obama on day one

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Burton also revealed Obama is set to play golf later in the day."]

(CNN) - Among President Obama's first activities on Martha's Vineyard: a friendly tennis match against wife Michelle.

White House spokesman Bill Burton told reporters Monday on the Massachusetts island the first couple squared off earlier this morning, though it remains a secret who won.

Burton also revealed Obama is set to play golf later in the day with South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn, UBS CEO and major Obama supporter Robert Wolf, and White House aide Marvin Nicholson.

As for the rest of the week, Burton offered few details, saying the president himself doesn't even have a particular schedule.

"He's on vacation, so everything is a little bit loose," he said.

Burton, however, did dispel reports the president is planning on visiting ailing Sen. Ted Kennedy in nearby Hyannis Port.

"I heard some reports today that the Secret Service had visited Hyannis Port. I don't think that there's any reason to believe that there's any plan to go to Hyannis Port at this point," he said. "I think that if Secret Service agents were there, they probably heard like all of you already know, that they have great lobster rolls out there."

Burton also said it's unlikely Obama will spend much time mingling with residents of the 23-mile long island.

"His desire on Martha's Vineyard is to get a little break," he said. "He certainly appreciates the hospitality of the folks who are here, but his desire here is to relax and spend time with the family."

wow...great reporting CNN. Don't suppose barack will get 6 lawyers together so they can explain the health care bill to him in hopes he gets a clue.

You know, Obama is really just like the Cubs. Start off showing a little prospect and hope, only to implode and end in abyssimal failure. Yet still have throngs of supporters.

Wonder if Obama has some type of goat curse?

To all conservatives, the session is in recess and all congressman and congress woman are out of town. Senators are out of town also and because of that there is not much Obama can legislate. You know how legislation process of the country works right?
maybe you could all be upset because the country is in trouble and our lawmakers are out of town, maybe your anger should be directed at all of them not just at the president.
I'm glad they are out of town catching a second wind, maybe they won't screw everything up when they come back. maybe they all needed a time out...

If anyone needs a break from the wackos it is President Obama. He is certainly not "constantly on vacation." That was George Bush-and even when "W" was in the White House he was making a total mess of our economy and using his scare tactics to sell his undeclared war.
So enjoy your vacation President Obama. You are doing a great job!

Wasting time investigating the CIA interrogations will harm our country and our safety.

Healthcare with a government option and more government control will harm our healthcare.

"Cap and Trade" amounts to a tax without clear environmental benefit and will harm our economy.

The Stimulus efforts (TARP II, Stimulus bill, C for Clunkers) are running up the deficit and will harm our economy.

Barak Obama needs to resign, stay on vacation and play golf with Michele. Give Joe Biden a chance to see if he can do better (He can't possibly do worse!)

President Obama has freed us from the clutches of Bushism.

Saddled with all the problems Bush created, I'm surprised that ONE WEEK of vacation is enough.

Every day that Bush is not president is a good day!

One thing that I can't stand is when liberals say, "oh he's only been in office for 6, 7, 8 months.... we need to give the President a chance... .......people come on!!! How long would you give the President to turn things around in this country? When can a liberal finally say, okay maybe he's isnt about hope and change, maybe he really does want to take control of my life. What's a fair time table for you? A year, 2 years, 2.5 years, his last year in 2012?

President Bush took off the month of August 2001...I guess nothing much was going on in August 2001. No "chatter", etc.

From Wikipedia: George Tenet said, "I was not in briefings at this time." Bush, he noted, "was on vacation."

He added that he didn't see the president at all in August 2001. During the entire month, Bush was at his ranch in Texas.

"You never talked with him?" Roemer asked.

    "No," Tenet replied.

By the way, for much of August, Tenet too was, as he put it, "on leave."

Only the Republicans would have the gall to say Obama should not be enjoying a summer vacation – I say, 'enjoy every minute'....

Gotta wonder if he'll blame Bush, Conservatives, FoxNews, and/or the 'astroturf nazis' when he loses in golf. That seems to be what he likes to do; he messes up something – blame someone else. It's never Obama's fault. He's just like a spoiled little child.

At least he is spending time with his family, if some of the politicians was doing like the president they would still have a family instead of following other women and around, he went to the White House and children and with the help of the Lord he will leave with them instead of we hearing he is getting a divorce...some politicians on the other side of the isle need to take a page out of his book. Love your wife in the words of Paul Newman why go out and get hambuger when you have steak at home.

Oh my gosh, I sure would love to play with the President.

This article is like getting to go to heaven for all the Republicans. Obama takes a vacation. Something Bush never did. It just cracks me up to hear what Repugs have to say. One thing is they always come thru with their mean negative responses followed by absolutely no ideas.

Don't even get me started on this bogus CIA investigation! I can't believe anyone has anything negative to say about that! I don't care WHO the CIA threatened...if these bed wetting liberals weren't ready to do whatever it took when planes were hitting buildings and thousands of our people were dying in mere moments, then they have no clue what it means to be human, or to fight for something dear to them!

I hope they have a great time. And for those that have a problem with it are the problem. Bush was on vacation his whole presidentcy. Imagin that and to think our country wasn't falling apart then... what a phony out cry. Have fun I say to the whole "Obama" family. I wish I could go to and hang out a bit. Now that would be a great vacation for me..

He certainly deserves a vacation with all the hateration that's been going on. To all of those who say that he should stay behind and work out this healthcare thing, I say why shoud he. Congress is on vacation and nobody has mentioned that, and they are out a whole month! Our President (I know you rethugs can't stand to hear it) deserves some time to himself and family! For goodness sake, get a life.

Oh, and to those who ask the question of when did our country become so mean or what happend to us, well, OUR COUNTRY has always been this way. It's just that now that a black man is president, all the dogs and wolves are coming out of the closet in droves. I call it showing their true colors. This is brilliant actually because those who used to hide behind their dogma, their hypocritcy is being exposed to who and what they really are. Folks, everything happens for reason!

#1 This vacation is being paid for out of Obama's own pocket.

#2 A president cannot make legislation so those of you who are saying he should be back working in Washington, well, if you guys didn't know our other politicians are also gone.

#3 You birthers/right wingers that are complaining, George Bush got into office and went on vacation for 2 months while Al Queda was plotting 9-11. Did you guys forget that already?

#4 I feel bad for everyone who doesn't have a job but the President being in Washington for a week is not going to get companies to higher people any faster than they would if he was doing what he's doing now.

#5 For those of us who do work, we are entitled to a vacation. I don't see why this would be any different. Especially when you consider a President's job is 24/7. He doesn't just stop at 5 and get the weekends off.

President or otherwise, everyone needs a vacation now and then in order to perform better on the job. I may not agree with alot of what he's done to date as President, but I won't criticize a vacation.

what is wrong with people today? It is very scary how many people blogging on here hate our President. Did they hate Bush when he was killing thousands of innocent people in another country? What is it that you people want anyway? No health care? Afraid of socialism? Fine, take your kids out of public schools and teach them yourselves. Pave your own roads, when your house is burning you throw water on it. Close the prisons, let everyone out and when your house is being robbed deal with it because you can start policing your own neighborhoods. We have truly become a country of hateful people

Why is BO's vacation well-deserved, but Bush's weren't? Did BO have to deal with the two worst disaster to strike the US ever 9-11 & katrina? Nope, but according the Kool Aid drinkers "This beautiful man (BO) well deserves a vacation. Yikes! Lead me to the vomitorium.
