On day two, Obama takes a break to make news

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="The president opened his remarks with an apology to reporters for 'interrupting the relaxing I told you all to do'."]

(CNN) - Despite word from the White House that "nobody is looking to make any news" this week, President Obama on Tuesday took a break from vacationing to announce his plans to nominate Ben Bernanke to a second term as head of the Federal Reserve.

"The man next to me, Ben Bernanke, has led the Fed through one of the worst financial crises that this nation and the world has ever faced," Obama said from Martha's Vineyard, a Massachusetts Island.

Obama made the announcement at Oak Bluffs Elementary School. A few dozen onlookers gathered outside the school to wave to the presidential motorcade as it arrived.

The president opened his remarks with an apology to reporters for "interrupting the relaxing I told you all to do."

I guess he figures he better get the news out and get it over with and not have the MSM breaking down his door as the usually do with things like this.....Course you couldn't get close to bush, you'd be frog marched off to jail. At least Obama is accessible. I don't know why the press are roped off and only let out at certain times.

You know really and out there who hate the President so much after 7-8 months in office, must really not understand what happened from Sept. 2008, until about May 2009............The economy as we know it.....everything, was about to literally banks, then no mom and pop stores, no small business owners......bread lines everything........................Do you really feel that Bush spent 770 billion, and Obama 787 billion for the hell of it?! It was a necessary evil. The only people who think that America is in trouble, are those that are arousing the trouble. The President is not perfect.....but the morals, he holds, and the work he's done in recent months, is to be commended......................It took Ronald Reagan two years to recover from the bad economy and high unemployment (10%) in his first term.......It will likely take us two to three years as well.......who knows.....but I know that this man was the right one for this time. It's hilarious how the election of this particular democrat, has caused so much irate illogical hate......what will you say in 2012, when he's re-elected?

    Obama is the Leader.

Obama is the Hero of our Country.

We like to see Obama on TV all the time.

We hate to see Bush and Cheney on TV. Because Bush and Cheney are Criminals, responsible for misleading Americans in to the Unjust Iraq War.

Bush and Cheney should be Jailed for causing the death or 4300 US Troops and 25000 US Troops permanently handicapped.

Well, I should hope so. After all, this little vacation of his will cost the taxpayers $1.3 million when it's all said in done. For that kind of money we're putting out for his vacation we should ALL expect more than one break from his vacation to do a little work for a change.

9-10 Trillion in debt!! Are any obamabots worried? Or does it not matter since, you are resigned to living off the government your whole lives?
Obama is a disgrace and a criminal of the constitution. I hope you kool-aid drinking obamabots wise up. It's not about political parties, it's about the future of this country.

I've been dizzy with all of the bills being passed ... and tossed around in Washington, D. C., with the debt rising, but this CIA investigation thing is the LAST STRAW.

I'm convinced that Obama and those "clowns" in the White House don't know what they are doing.

White House? You mean, "The Debt House?"

Passing the CIA decision to Eric Holder ... saying, "I don't want this to happen ... I'm leaving it up to the Attorney General" .... is a move made by a President who thinks we are stupid. Figuring we would blame Eric Holder ... and not HIM?

No, we are not stupid, Mr. President. This is YOUR decision. One, simply to overide the news of the rise of the 9 trilling $ debt ... and divert the town hall folks' attention in a different direction.

    We are on to you.

I also feel compelled to educate once again the illiterates among us that complains about the vacation that this president takes as oppose to the numerous vacations of his predecessors and yet not a peep of dissent when Bush was at Camp David.

It is documented that Obama (unlike his predecessors) is footing the bill for his vacation and the only thing that is covered by tax dollars is the normal amount that is expected for the Secret Service. For those political illiterates who do not know.....this president is a millionaire. He was a millionaire before he took office and is very capable of spending his own hard-earned money for this vacation as clearly he is demonstrating by his example. Now, these same brain damaged people continues to complain that he is doing too much work and need to focus on one single issue at a time....and then in the same stale breath state that he needs to work and stop taking vacations or partying depending on their limited vocabulary. They are brilliant I tell you. They say he is NOT working and then say he is working too hard.

Wow! The crazies can sure complain about anything. The man takes a week-long vacation – ohhhh, how horrible! The man takes a short break from his vacation to make a major announcement – ohhhh, how horrible! You all make me sick. Please take a short break from all your hate and do something good for a change.

You GOP finger sniffers out to give it a rest. Our president can't do anything without you people spewing your hate.

Get over yourselves. You can't be happy or proud about the utter failure your GOP / Republican representatives have brought this country. Yet you call the president a liar, a thief, and every negative name you can muster. Are you silly enough to think that the past administration was above reproach and set our country on the path to prosperity?

Its just amazing the world you guys live in. Nothing anywhere near reality. Just hate and insults.

26 trillion in toxic assets, 9 trillion in 10 year National deficit projections, trillion dollar healthcare deformity! I think you have made enough news President Obama, please just go back on vacation for 3 more years so our Nation may survive!

Nice job, Obozo. Go hang out with your rich friends while the deficit , unemployment and the death toll in the wars you promised to stop spiral ever-upward and out of control.

I think it is rather funny that people are chiding Obama for taking a break from the madness right now. Bush was gone almost a thousand days, and never really there the rest of the time !

Love the right wing rhetoric. Do you guys ever shut up? You were all over Obama yesterday for taking a vacation and not working, and now you are complaining that he's working during his vacation. It's already widely known that he's paying for the vacation stay himself, so that argument just makes you look (more) stupid. BTW – stock market is up, consumer confidence is up, and the job market is starting to heat up. Certain you will find fault with that as well.

Good grief! All the venom just because the President is taking a break from what has to be a brutal schedule. C'mon, folks. Bring it down a notch or two. Some people will find a way to criticise Mr. Obama regardless what he does.

No wonder civil discourse in this country has taken it in the shorts. The brutality of the verbal attacks on President Obama as evidenced in these comments bode ill for the future of this country. Looks like we've become a nation of spiteful, small-minded, viscious little people who are brimming with anger.

Take a breath, for cryin' out loud!

  20. Be Rational

Let me get this straight... people are mad that the president would take a small break from his vacation, to WORK? To keep his hand steady on the economic tiller?

While indeed he could have "just waited," it's a smart move. He's keeping up investor and consumer confidence at a time when it's desperately needed. Re-appointing Bernanke at this time helps steady things.

So yes, Obama could have pulled a Bush Jr., and taken a vacation while Katrina destroys New Orleans, or our economy tanks, but he's not that stupid. Give the man a chance, he's doing a great job.

  21. Expat American

It’s fascinating how many of those opposed to President Obama have somehow formulated in their minds that those who support the President are automatically ‘living off of the government’. One would need intelligence, an education and a global perspective to understand how Bush’s policies damaged the United States abroad. Such people would most likely not be living ‘off of the government’. But then again, we all know that there isn’t a single 'decent' Conservative Christian White (eg: Real American) who lives off of the government. Noooo, of course not.

He couldn't wait for a week, or couldn't do it earlier.

We thought, atleast for a week, we didn't have to wake up hearing Obama did this, and go back to bed at night again hearing Obama did that.

He goes on vacation, people complain that he should be working. He takes time out from vacation to do a bit of government work people complain. Schizoid opponents at large!!!!
He is not really on vacation, he is just taking time out from his job as glorified sanitation agent thanks to previous administration's lingering, profuse and malodorous litter.

  24. PA Voter

The crazies are really loose today. He vacations for a week....that's a problem. He takes a break to make a necessary announcement BEFORE it's leaked.....that's a problem. Just can't please some people. Keep nit-picking and making up stupid arguments. The rest of the country is repairing from the recession, getting their credit in order, starting new jobs, getting new cars and putting cash into local economies.
