On day two, Obama takes a break to make news

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="The president opened his remarks with an apology to reporters for 'interrupting the relaxing I told you all to do'."]

(CNN) - Despite word from the White House that "nobody is looking to make any news" this week, President Obama on Tuesday took a break from vacationing to announce his plans to nominate Ben Bernanke to a second term as head of the Federal Reserve.

"The man next to me, Ben Bernanke, has led the Fed through one of the worst financial crises that this nation and the world has ever faced," Obama said from Martha's Vineyard, a Massachusetts Island.

Obama made the announcement at Oak Bluffs Elementary School. A few dozen onlookers gathered outside the school to wave to the presidential motorcade as it arrived.

The president opened his remarks with an apology to reporters for "interrupting the relaxing I told you all to do."

It is so distasteful to hear and read how much you people hate the President when who would be doing the things he is doing to help us. People you are the cruel individuals that don't even like yourself. This man is no different than any other President. Why can't he take a vacation. Did you ever have a President in the spot light 24/7 like Obama. No. So why is it that people can't see that he is no different except skin color. People wake up and stop acting like little kids. I hope you are not leading by examples to your children because if you are, then God help them. Remember Rome was not built in one day and all battles are not fought and won in a day. Be kind and gentle to everyone even you have skeltons in you closets that may need to thrown out.

  3. Come on already!

I am working right this minute!

HOWEVER; The president is not, Congress is not, and the millions of people that are trying to silence those of us (who work for a living and do not expect everyhting for free) are NOT working... Get jobs and be willing to pay for the things you want!

This is so sick, why would people want to better themselves if the President of the country says you can have things for free and if you do not agree then you are a Mob?

Bernanke, a Bush holdover, being kept aboard while many of Obama's new cabinet are just flopping around and screwing the country over with Obama's help.

  5. Enough with the haters already

So let me see ... the mess that Obama created? Do you mean bringing the nation back from the brink of economic disaster? Or restoring respect for our country around the world? And how can you begrudge the guy a week of family vacation before his girls go back to school? The last president took an unprecedented amount of vacation during his eight years in office. Of course, he left that crook Cheney in charge of things while he was off playing cowboy at his ranch.

Ok let me get this straight. I just read some of the comments complaining about the POTUS taking a vacation with the costs ranging from 33k to 1.3 million (depending on who's yelling) and I gotta say something now. Does anybody NOT remember the previou President going on vacation to play golf AFTER he sent troops to Iraq on a mission based on a lie? Now I know nobody wants a finger pointed but some of these comments are ridiculous. 8 years ago Americans elected two BUSINESSMEN to run our country and they did so like the CEO's they really were. They lied, the propogated and outed an agent in the name of patriotism and then accused anybody who didn't agree with them of being anti-American. Look where we are because of it. Blame us America, for doing that THEN, and bless America for what we are doing NOW.

President Obama can vacation playing golf, tennis, swimming, jog and walk while taking care of our natins business at the same time so don't act so surprised. He's not GWB.

Amazingly coincidental that he couples any bad news (trillions increased in deficit estimation) with some kind of good news press conference moment.

He is deceitful, he is conniving, and he is getting away with it because Liberals want to believe in something magical.

Believe this: 50 years from now, Americans will look back at the early part of the century and remember what an awful experiment Obama's presidency was, not Bush's.

Obama's massive deficit spending habits will be making news long after he's voted out in 2012.

A president and fed chairman who are leading us into a national debt of $10 trillion are two people who should be railroaded out of town, not celebrated and supported. These two jerks are destroying the economy for generations to come.

I just can't tell the differences between that NY criminal who robbed 50 billions from investors and Obama who rapidly accumulates 10 trillions' deficits for our country, for which we and our children's children will have to pay back in many generations to come?

The Obama's should party hearty while they can because their time will come to pay the drummer. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

I guess those who are saying it is wrong for the president to take a vacation never do.take one. They work 24/7 and are glad to keep to the grindstone. They don't find it important to step away and take a break. Your companies and families must be very proud and happy with you and your deidcation. Frankly I would rather have someone take a break and get refreshed and ready to start up again.
This is sad state when people can't even let the man get away for a few days but must find fault. This is not the USA but a nation divided and we will be our own downfall with all the hate and infighting that goes on. If these boards are any indication of how people really are this nation won't need outsiders to come in and destroy, we are doing it to ourselvs.

Some Things are true,, But thing is for the best. To believe it or not everyone knew if it wasn't for Obama taking risks, and pride of his Americans this place would be even worst. I think it's great he is in office. Because he is doing a better job then what Bush was doing. In Sept. 2008 to May of 2009 the economy was really a diaster and everyone knows it. And yes I would love to see Obama takes that vacation, because I feel it's for the Good. Now Bush just did whatever he wanted. Not even thinking of how he is messing of the economy. So come on everyone knows its really Bush fault why we so in debt. Its not Obama fault, he is just here to fix things and I know yall seer him doing his best.

Funny how people are dogging Obama for actually (gasp!) taking a vacation.

He doesn't have the weekends off and his job isn't 9 to 5.

Vacation recharges you. So let him have his vacation ya whiners.

haha...gotta love how quickly CNN turns off comments on articles that puts the Obama administration in a bad light; like...the one where the liberals want to hold 1000 rallies....they're going to get tired of busing around the same 300 people from city to city though....

Go on vacation and hide from the public. Then have the whitehouse revise the economic foracasts and the deficit. Get the Attorney General to investigate the CIA. Have MSNBC spin your national health care system. What else does he plan to have done while he and the media get a much needed vacation in Marthas Vinard.

Obama have been doing the right thing with money, Bush wasn’t. Because if Bush was doing right by the money 770 billions wouldn’t be gone and we have no idea where it went to. Bush let an bank go bankruptcy come on now, How could you? Well I’m just here to say Obama has done a great job to me. Can’t wait until 2012 when he get re-elected, because he have done some wonderful things for the economy today.

Some of the comments on here are truly disgraceful. Its amazing to me that if one of us Dem's merely disagreed with Bush we would have been called un-American. Yet you Rethugs compare Obama to him a jerk..and other names....hypocracy at its finest.
