Obama's Kennedy eulogy to be a 'personal message'

(CNN) - A senior administration official tells that President Obama will describe Sen. Ted Kennedy as a "legislator, mentor and friend" in a 15-minute eulogy Saturday that will be a "personal message about the life of [the senator]."

Obama will talk about the impact that the senator has had on him, says the aide, but will not include a lot of stories about the relationship between the president and the man whose endorsement played a major role in his capture of the Democratic presidential nomination. Instead, it will be a broader message of a national goodbye and national tribute from the president. Obama will talk about Kennedy's legacy - his "impact on the American people" - but the exact language is not set - the president is still going over his remarks with a speechwriter

The first couple are expected to depart Martha's Vineyard for Boston, where Kennedy's funeral service will be held, around 9 pm Friday night.

  1. RIP Senator Kennedy

I really do not think President Obama needs any instructions on what not to say. Even if you dislike him you must admit he is one of the most eloquent public speakers. Remember he has empathy and intellect and has sincere love and respect for Sen. Kennedy, so no need to worry.

Hope Obama keeps it personal as this is a tragedy for All Americans. Please do not try to make this a campaign for health care. Not the proper time for it.
    God Bless Kennedy's family

  3. Right on!

I believe Sen. Kennedy would want him to advocate for health care reform at his funeral. It was his life mission.

  4. victim of republican greed

It has been a long time since the republican party had a hero. Other than obstruction, illegal wars, and giving away our children's future, there is not much to the GOP.

I hope Obama does talk about Kennedy's healthcare agenda, everybody including Republicans at Kennedy's celebration ceremony talked about it.

Thank you Mr. President for standing up for a friend and delivering the euolgy for someone you really cared for...outside(and inside) of the political arena. You are truely a great President, and will carry on for Sen. Kennedy as you are a lot like him....a person for the people....plain and simple. Although you will make many enemies because you fight for the common folks, I know you will continue that fight...just like Sen. Kennedy has done for years....even if it, at times made him unpopular with the people who would take everything and leave nothing for the common folks.....Sen. Kennedy never lost focus regarding the people of America, and I am certain you will not lose focus either. God Bless....continue to fight for us Mr. President.
