Palin's PAC forced to correct FEC filing

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/08/18/art.palin0818.gi.jpg caption=" Palin's PAC is correcting a number of FEC errors."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - Sarah Palin's political action committee violated federal election laws with two donations earlier this year and filed a mid-year report with a number of errors in it, according to the Federal Election Commission.

In a five-page letter to SarahPAC treasurer Tim Crawford, the FEC highlights a number of issues with the filed report, including donating more than is allowed to the reelection campaigns of Sens. John McCain and Lisa Murkowski, as well as not providing proper descriptions on how some of the PAC's money was spent.

Contacted by CNN, Crawford said the committee was currently revising the report to fix the errors and said these types of mistakes are not uncommon with FEC filings.

"A million of these [correction letters] go out every month," Crawford said. "They send out a lot of them.

A spokesman for the FEC said its standard practice for all reports to be reviewed, but would not estimate how many PAC's usually have to file corrections.

Specifically, the FEC notes SarahPAC gave $5,000 to McCain and Murkowski's primary campaigns - $2,600 more than is allowed for a PAC of SarahPAC's designation to give to a primary effort. SarahPAC also designated the donation for the senators' 2009 primary when in fact the primaries are in 2010.

To fix the error, Crawford said the PAC will allocate $2,400 to the senators' primary campaigns and $2,400 to the general election effort as is allowed under election laws. The PAC has also obtained a $200 refund from both campaigns to make up the difference.

"We essentially gave $200 too much," Crawford said. "We have since redesignated with both committees."

Crawford attributed some of the mistakes to being a new PAC and also noted FEC software that was supposed to flag mistakes when reports are initially submitted showed no errors with their filing.

"We filed what we thought was perfectly right," Crawford said. "If there is a violation, the FEC won't accept the report, but ours was accepted with no warnings or violations."

SarahPAC has until September 24 to file an amended report.

Poor Sarah Palin. People picking on her again. Relentless aren't they. I guess when you hold yourself so far above the atmosphere, the only way to go is down. And this ones falling faster than an asteroid.

OK fine, refile the paperwork and take back the extra $200. In the meantime how about a little honest reporting on the absolutely stunning corruption being perpetrated by the Obama administration. I will give you democrats the benefit of the doubt and say that because the media refuses to publish the facts the truth remains hidden. The Soros-Obama-Emmanual connection is literally trying to hijack our country. Wake up people.

Not only is she about the dumbest politico (?) out there, but she surrounds herself with equally if not dumber people. But, I agree. Why is CNN wasting time on her? People like her will fade, and become less than a footnote in history.

I confess to a sick fascination with Sarah Palin - can't stop reading these so-called news items. What is hypnotic about her is that, despite everything she says and does, people still actually like her. Just can't wrap my brain around that, but I'll keep trying!

"A million of these [correction letters] go out every month," Crawford said. "They send out a lot of them."

A million? Really? There are that many people/groups in this country running for elected office?

Once again, the Palin camp is trying to avoid responsibility – this time by saying that breaking the law is no big deal, because everybody (apparently, a million everybodies) does it.

Please send Sarah Palin as many campaign contributions that you can afford and use credit cards or loans if you can't make a weekly tithe of 15% of your pay. Give her lots of money so that she can run the Republican Party and try to get elected as President of the USA in 2012. When she fails miserably, blame the liberal media, left-wing nut-jobs, and socialist/communist/nazis who are bi-racial, gay, pro-abortion, anti-gun, and live in the Northeast. Be part of the uneducated, vocal, and unethical (not to mention racist) group that does not read books and supports a beauty pageant runner-up for President.

    Nah, not Sarah.

I have to say I'm sick of her too, but....what if we never heard of her to the point that, we never heard her typical shannagins?

We really need to keep the word out to keep reminding us what she is truly about after all. Some Americans forget too easily about things.

After all if anything, she is truly comical. And she has no idea why!

Not only does the Obama News Network continue their ongoing campaign of the media assasination of Sarah Palin, they're so pathetically devoid of ideas that they make this the lead story on their pitiful political ticker.
What I want to know is does she get a discount on buying toilet paper that no one else gets and is that in exchange for political favors? Please investigate that one. You people are pathetic.

I've said it before and I will say it again....Look at the way the woman runs her household, do you think anything she touches will be any different? Alaska is a mess, her PAC is a mess, & her organization is a mess. The woman is a walking disaster and some of you people want her in the highest public office in the US. Imagine this nightmare in the White House....YIKES!!!!!

You can defend this nut as much as you want Repubs, but I would not give Pres. Obama's finger for this woman's whole body. She needs to go home and concentrate on her kids & grandchild.

Four and the Door – check the facts. W inherited a huge budget surplus and quickly drove us in to a huge deficit. Any educated person knows that now, to get us out of this recession we need to spend more money in order to create "demand" the marketplace.

Palin is uneducated, un-informed and dangerous in that she encourages hate-speak.

Palin will replace Obama in 2012 and only an act of violence, which Obamists seem very capable of, will prevent it.

While I doubt they purposely did this in error in an unethical way...it shows that the people around her don't know what they are doing. I don't think she knows either...

Well colour me surprised. This women can't run anything effectively including her own PAC. Why would anyone consider her for public office? Let her right wing fringe continue to invite her to fundraisers she cancels attending at the last minute and leave the public politics to people who can handle it.

This lady is definitely not the sharpest knife in the drawer. She is a bafoon all the way. I want to see all of her credentials before she runs for anything. The republicans think that we are scared of this dimwit. Only dimwits are backing her. She is a total loser. Please crawl back into an igloo or something. Obama definitely has more sense than this fool. Even the white house dog has more sense than this woman.
