First on the CNN Ticker: DNC takes aim at Cheney

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="The DNC is taking aim at Dick Cheney in a new ad."](CNN) - The Democratic National Committee is taking aim at Dick Cheney over his string of high-profile media appearances during which the former vice president has been highly critical of President Obama's national security policies.

In a new 30-second television ad set for national cable and local cable in Washington, the DNC asserts many of Cheney's statements have been incorrect - particularly those in which he has argued enhance interrogation techniques conclusively yielded intelligence.

That ad compares those recent statements to ones he made in the leadup to the Iraq war, when he declared Americans would be "greeted as liberators" and that he was sure Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.

"Dick Cheney, wrong then, wrong now," the ad states.

The DNC has used Cheney as a punching bag several times already this year, releasing a string of Web videos and press releases last spring questioning whether he was the new leader of the GOP.

Cheney most recently appeared on Fox News, declaring in an interview Sunday that enhanced interrogation techniques such as waterboarding, considered by many to be torture, were "absolutely essential in saving thousands of American lives."

Critics contend there is little evidence to support the notion that the techniques themselves were what yielded the information.

We were "greeted as liberators" . I watched the news of the Iraqi people and how happy they were to be free. Iraq is a much better place now than it was before we invaded. That is a fact!

Also telling a terrorist that you are going to kill his wife and children is not torture.

One more thing… Everyone was saying that Iraq had WMDs. This includes the Clintons and many other Democrats. Go to you tube and you will see them all saying the same thing. I'm just glad that we did not bail out on Iraq when the Democrats wanted to. Can you imagine how bad things would be?

This ad seems a little mislead.

This coming from a man who 'accidently' shot a old man. This should have been his first clue as to why he is the last person we should listen to about the security of the nation.

HE isn't even safe to be around.

I love to see the gloves coming off. Bipartisanship is a road to nowhere when Republicans are your negotiating partners. Republicans aren't even mildly interested in governing. Dem efforts to apply the rule of law is being politicized by Cheney and others in hopes that it will score some points and for Cheney – keep him out of jail. I hope he and Bubba become great friends in cell block 8. What is the point of winning an election if you are hamstrung by sour grapes Republicans who just want to thwart all progress.

This guy has no crediability and one of the most hated politician in America. I believe it is counter productive to give him attention through media interviews and then adminstration providing responses. The best way to deal with this situation is to ignore him.

I would like to see Enhanced Interrogation Techniques used on Cheney, Jeb Bush, and Kathrine Harris to find out the TRUTH about who really won the November 2000 Presidential election.

Bashing the Bush Administration may have gotten you lib dems elected but it will not keep you in office. It is easy to point out others flaws, but it is difficukt to actually fix our problems. Sure HE is going to investigate to see why THREE people were water-boarded.

Funny that so far Obama is dead step with Bush and has not changed any of these leftist talking point hot issues.

What is the democrats worried about!! if the mnority vote gets to 30% in 2012 which looks highly likely thats means the gop have to get 64% of the white vote to beat obama,go in do ur math people,so all these people you see in these townhall meetings are going to be really upset when the gop contiues to lose election after elections, the last shot the gop had at the white-house was a moderate myself, but i just dont see how the gop can win in the future,i just dont see it,the democrats dont need that much white support anymore, its plain in simple.

    haha...yeah, and the DNC has made so many correct decisions...that they now have so much credibility to make such ads;

Gee....let's just start with the vetting of Obama's cabinet...pick a member, any member...and you'll more than likely get a tax cheat...or take Obama himself – anti American, racist, inexperienced...and they want to throw mud at Cheney? Cheney's been right all along, and was instrumental in keeping this country safe during the Bush administration. Just how many soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan under Obama? Where's the ticker on that CNN?

....and exactly why isn't this warmonger and liar being prosecuted for treason? The lies that he told then and continue to tell now resulted in the deaths of untold thousands of Iraqis and nearly 5,000 U.S. soldiers with thousands of lives ruined because of massive physical trauma. We will spend over a trillion dollars on this tragic un-necessary debacle that could have been avoided but the Repugs and their voters don't seem to have any problem with that. But whoa!!! Let's not spend a dime on national health care!!!

Cheney is a liar who ignored intelligence that could have prevented the attack on the U.S. on 9/11. He tried to shift his own guilt onto Saddam Huissen by torturing people into linking Iraq and 9/11. You, Mr. Cheney, are to blame for the 3,000 people on died 8 years ago.

One place Dick Cheney will never take heat? Why the most trusted name in news of course! Before Chris Wallace there was John King. Dont forget who helped kick off Dick Cheney's Torture is OK tour. When our children ask where right wing extremist xenophobes like Glenn Beck first got their big break...history books (which I will write because I am a historian) will whisper into their ears...cnn. cnn.

Torture is wrong, whether they yield results or not.

To position torture as the right interrogation method is shortsighted, immoral, unchristian and leads us back to the middle ages.

But most and foremost it endangers our very own, brave soldiers. For if and when they become PWs, they can expect to be tortured without restraint of immorality and international shunning of these methods, because we will be measured by our own deeds.

And last, but not least, the information obtained by these methods are very, very seldom accurate.

Shame on Dick Cheney and his cohorts for placing America into a realm of an uncivilized dark past.

This guy is seriously unbalanced, and he really begs the question of 'what was America thinking to let him have so much power?' History is going to rank him beside Caligula, Hitler, and Mussolini; he may turn out to have been America's Benedict Arnold or Vidkun Quisling as well when all the facts are laid bare.
