First on the CNN Ticker: DNC takes aim at Cheney

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="The DNC is taking aim at Dick Cheney in a new ad."](CNN) - The Democratic National Committee is taking aim at Dick Cheney over his string of high-profile media appearances during which the former vice president has been highly critical of President Obama's national security policies.

In a new 30-second television ad set for national cable and local cable in Washington, the DNC asserts many of Cheney's statements have been incorrect - particularly those in which he has argued enhance interrogation techniques conclusively yielded intelligence.

That ad compares those recent statements to ones he made in the leadup to the Iraq war, when he declared Americans would be "greeted as liberators" and that he was sure Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.

"Dick Cheney, wrong then, wrong now," the ad states.

The DNC has used Cheney as a punching bag several times already this year, releasing a string of Web videos and press releases last spring questioning whether he was the new leader of the GOP.

Cheney most recently appeared on Fox News, declaring in an interview Sunday that enhanced interrogation techniques such as waterboarding, considered by many to be torture, were "absolutely essential in saving thousands of American lives."

Critics contend there is little evidence to support the notion that the techniques themselves were what yielded the information.

I remebered while doing gator squares in the Adreatic Sea back in 92, cheney gave a speech on my ship USS Iwo Jima. All of the troops totally egnored very thing that he was saying. Cheney a total war monger. War...War...War. All this talk about war and security from someone that got 3 waivers not to serve all because he was a coward to serve.

I can't stand this fool of a so called VP. what a disgrace to society. His daughter Liz, needs to keep her mouth shut as well. All she is doing is lying through her teeth.

Here we go. So a group of people that voted to go to war point the finger at someone else that was in favor of going to war.

I think we need a democratic president with republican lead houses; because the democrats sure as heck did not do a good job at being the checks and balances, and Bush, well, nuff said.

Oh yea, remember next week is Be Nice To Terrorists Week. So donate your suicide vests and children get in for free.

Nice balanced story from both sides, CNN. Why not just run the DNC ad for free next time.

When Cheney made the original assertions where were you on that story? Huh?

Why don't you just re-name CNN to BNN?

Chaney is at the heart of what was "wrong" with Bush administration policies. It appears to me Chaney is in fear of prosecution and is attempting to divert attention away from his culpability.

Call them lies, misinformation, or just plain wrong. Anyone who believes this guy without tons of evidence is a FOOL!

Now this IS a welcome development! I just hope that soon the news will announce that Bush/Cheney et al are on their way to Federal Prison without the luxurious accomodations they have learned to love at our expense! Better yet, when this is done, I'd like to see them go to the World Criminal Court (The Hague) for further action regarding their crimes against humanity. Please, Universe, Let it Be!

When is this man going to be prosecuted for his crimes? Why should anyone follow the law if we dont hold these crooked liars accountable? They destroyed our good name, our economy, Missused our men and women serving in the Military, created one of the worst humanity crisises in modern time and caused the death or dissapearance of more than a million people.

We will never regain our national honor and international integrity until we hold our own lawbreakers responsible.

Maybe Americans will have to rely on the rest of the world to hold us accountable since we dont seem to be able to do it ourselves.

America has been chastizing other countries for the past 80 years. Now we are the bad example.

    The latest from Zogby International:

Zogby: Obama Approval Plummets to 42 Percent
President Barack Obama's job approval rating is down to 42%, with a decline in approval from Democrats the leading factor.

It makes me suspicious that Cheney is trying to hide something!
Someone is getting 'too close to the truth" like that guessing game kids play. It's getting "too hot" and he wants to divert attention

It's a good bet that the person he's trying to help is himself.

What is wrong with this man. for eight long years he was in hiding,
Now he can not seem to keep out of the daily news.
I guess he is still getting free Health care and big pension at taxes payer expense.

He should be. Think about this objectively. He is out there telling the world how unsafe our leader is making us- as if coaxing our enemies to attack us. I mean, you can't support that unless you put Party ahead of Country. And, if you do, then you are a hypocrite, so, I don't care about your opinion.

Nothing before enhance interrogation techniques, lots of important intellegence after. Hmmmm....

Well, common sense never was one of the DNC's strong points.

Thank You Prsident Bush & Vice President Chenny for doing what was necessary to protect Americans from the radical terrorists who attacked our country and getting the vital intelligence that was sorely lacking about the Taliban to stop further attacks on America and Americans. America thanks you !!!!!

Do you notice that Cheney almost never appears anywhere BUT Fox news. He knows they will low ball him with questions, just as Chris Wallace, a one time respectable news man did last weekend. Cheney would never dare go on CNN or any other news broadcast because he knows he would have to answer real questions about things he does not want to talk about. He wants to drive the conversation, not really answer for his actions. It is clear beyond a doubt that the wild actions of the past administration has made us less safe in the world and more of a target for terrorists, even that proud right wing conservative terrorist we saw in California last week. They are as truly scary as any foreign terrorist.

I would believe Cheney. Even though he and Bush made mistakes, everyone got the same message. The story didn't keep changing. The president we have now lies every time he opens his mouth. He says to one group, I'm going to do this; then another group, I going to do this. He changes more than a lizard. And it sicken me when he said "bearing false witness," trying to say a few words from the Bible only because he was speaking to clergy. He is the one bearing false witness. God help us all.

Keep talking Dicky. Last time you shot your friend, and this time you’re only shooting at yourself you moron. You and your dyslexia friend Georgy ruined the entire world. You are nothing more than a bunch of blood thirsty beasts. I hope you rot in prison.
The only thing I don’t understand is how come there are so many stupid in America that still doesn’t get it. Aren’t we supposed to be the greatest? Wake up you religious fools. Your leaders are taking advantage of your stupidity the same way the Islamist fascists are taking advantage of these poor illiterate suicide bombers. They don’t care about you. All they care is about their own pockets. They robbed you blind. And in the process we got raped as well.
I hope the Republican Party, the way it is now, gets wipe out the map. They don’t belong to the 21st century world. They are pure evil. They are bunch of selfish, self-center, narcissistic, womanizer, closet gay, arrogant bustards.
Georgy, Dicky, Sara, Kakabee, Michael Steel, Rush …. Is that the best you can do?
Some of your leaders think the world was created only 7,000 years ago. How stupid that is? Wake up and smell the coffee America. We are falling so behind.

Love it. Attack the speaker, not the message. The problem is, he is right and they can't refute what he is saying. People are getting tired of this tactic and see through this method for avoiding real dialog.

The Republican Party has always been about fear mongering. This is no different. If a person is willing to be told what to do and how to think without questioning sources or-heaven forbid- reading and researching themselves, they will buy into any little sound bite or blog and accept it and spread it as truth.
