Florida GOP chair: Obama trying to 'indoctrinate' children

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The chairman of the Republican Party of Florida on Tuesday issued a statement to "condemn President Obama's use of taxpayer dollars to indoctrinate America's children to his socialist agenda."

Jim Greer also accused President Obama of "using our children as tools to spread liberal propaganda."

The state party chair issued the statement in response to a White House announcement that Obama would appear in a nationally broadcast address to primary school students around the country. The White House has said the president would be urging students to “(take) responsibility for their success in school.”

"As the father of four children, I am absolutely appalled that taxpayer dollars are being used to spread President Obama's socialist ideology," Greer said.

The Department of Education has released documents that list suggested questions for students to consider during the speech, and activities that teachers can use to guide discussion afterward. Activities listed include creating posters outlining their personal and academic goals, and “(writing) letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president.”

I just do not understand why in this day and age, that this behavior continues. How is encouraging children to look at themselves and thinking about their future – promoting libral propaganda – maybe if more republicans raised their children to be responsible adults some years back, things would be different in our country today.. we would not be a society of 'you owe me' mentality...

This is no longer a democrate vs republican issue.. it is a right vs wrong issue. The continued threats upon our president's life, the continued none action by the republicans in Congress and the Senate, the just everything.. I don't understand how anyone can think this is good for the country.. no matter what party you belong to..

This is a sad day for our country.. a sad sad day..

Excuse me. Since when is encouraging students to take responsibility for their success in school a socialist agenda? The Republicans have moved so far to the right that even conservative values such as an education are considered socialistic? I don't even remember any fascist state taking that stance.

Florida republican chair equates taking responsibility and doing well in school as a socialist ideology. Obviously Greer is an example of how stupid a person can become and still be successful in the republican party.

AMEN!! An administration that would spend taxpayer money to spam the general public would not think twice about using our public school system to do the same thing. That is the basic intent of our public education system–to PROGRAM young minds to blindly accept what the government tells them and never question its authority or wisdom.
This is why we need either total reform of our educational system to unpoliticize it or vouchers for private schooling.

Are Republicans really that stupid to start something like this. They have no solutions to the problems we are facing so they have to scare people into believing the Democrats are wrong. Again the party of No is up to NO GOOD.

What in Tarnation??!!!.....Its called CIVICS Mr. Greer. What about encouraging students to become politically aware and involved, to set personal and academic goals and to take responsibility for doing what they can to bring those goals to fruition is socialist???? I mean, the wacky train AND the short bus must be missing someone right now because you have truly gone off the deep end. Its scary when people think that no one can tell them anything or that they have all of the answers. Invariably they fall flat on their faces. Unfortunately, in some cases they take other people with them. I wonder what it is exactly YOU are teaching your children....Lord help us!

When people run out of ideas, they will literally say anything to remain relevant. I wanted to say, hey CNN, this is not news. But, it is. It is because the Repuplican party continues to demonstrate that they have no desire to govern this country. They continue to use any method, however baseless, to criticize. They have no positive suggestions of how to improve our lives. The only thing that they seem capable of is criticizing those who are moving forward. And, sadly, many Americans will hear or see this and agree with him. Just because someone on TV says something, it doesn't make it true. Do your own homework, heck read! That might be a novel thing to many of your supporting the party of no, but, give it a try. And, please, not just Glenn Beck. His title is self is an oxymoron (emphasis on moron). Republicans, look that word up. ANyway, thanks CNN for continuing to show all of us how truly IGNORANT the leaders of the Replican party are. Keep it up.

The tools keep saying the word socialist, and the fools keep believing it.

That's fine, the rest of us can enjoy a nice laugh at you while watching Obama doing what he promised to do before he got elected.

Personal responsibility is liberal propaganda for a socialist agenda?!?! What in the world is this clown talking about? Even conservative republicans need to outraged at
jim Greer's stupidity... Isn't personal responsibilty for your own success or failure (not depending on gov't hand-outs) a key pillar in the republican platform??

You know, I am deeply ashamed of my nation today. That the President of the United States in addressing school children could be accussed by so called Americans of instiuting a indroctrination of American youth is truely troubling. I fear for my nation today, not because of the President or any actions he has taken but because of the out and out fear and hatered expressed by the fanatical right wing fringes within our nation that would rather tear this nation appart for their own narrow minded political views. And yes I mean fanatical, there is nothing American about the these attacks.

Tne left-wing indoctrination has been going on for years....just look at the revisionist history texts in public schools. Just look at the vast majority of teachers and professors in this country.... mostly left-wing.

The Party of Fear continues to spew its vile fearful comments to enrage the conservative right of this country.

I would have been thrilled as an elementary student to see something like this from my President. This is a project that should take place each and every year. All he is doing is asking children to take responsiblity for them selves. How is this illiciting socialist ideolgy?

There is no wonder the Republican party is going down in flames.....

Absolutely absurd that this hypocrite should criticize the President for encouraging school children to take responsibility for their success.
This is the kind of encouragement.

I am tried of the right claiming everything our President attempts to do for the good of all as being socialist.

Jim Greer sounds like he's part of the old endoctrine called "The Dummying of Americans" and is certainly against "No Child Left Behind". I am appalled that Jim Greer has four children that will live by his old outdated indoctrine in this 21st century.
