Obama did not order Van Jones' resignation, adviser says

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The resignation of Obama administration figure Van Jones, following controversies over a petition he had signed and his comments about Republicans, did not come at the request of the president, the White House senior adviser said Sunday.

"Absolutely not - this was Van Jones' own decision," David Axelrod told NBC's "Meet the Press" when asked if the president had ordered the resignation.

The chairman of the House Republican Conference, Rep. Mike Pence of Indiana, had called for Jones to resign or be fired.

"I think Van Jones did the right thing," Pence said Sunday about the resignation. "His extremist views and coarse rhetoric have no place in this administration."

Jones has frequently been dubbed a "green-jobs czar" for the administration.

"The president should suspend any future appointment of so called czars while the administration and the Congress carefully examines the background and qualifications of the more than 30 individuals who've been appointed to these czar positions," said Pence, speaking to reporters. "And the Congress ought to initiate a thorough inquiry into the constitutionality of this practice which has spanned Republican and Democrat administrations."

In a statement Saturday night, the White House said Jones was giving up his post at the Council on Environmental Quality, where he helped coordinate government agencies focused on delivering millions of green jobs to the ailing U.S. economy.

"On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me," Jones said in the statement. "They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide."

Jones is just another example of the type of people Obama pals around with. Now if the spotlight can only shine on the other 30 plus Obama czars than maybe we can weed out a few more racist, marxists from trying to run our lives.

Well, Lindie, you just showed what part of your anatomy you talk out of. With talk like that, you surely aren't talking with your mouth. Van Jones is just the latest indication of Obama's inexperience and lack of qualifications. He needs all these czars to do HIS job as he has NO idea what to do. He has done nothing but screw up since he took office and we have a long way to go before we get him out of office and return this country to some semblence of sanity. Our only hope is that it isn't too far gone before then. With his choices of people like Jones and Jones's obvious racism towards whites and hatred for Republicans, it is downright scary to think what the mindsets of the other 33 czars he picked might be. (And as a side note, is this what Obama thinks, too?) These people have tremendous power and are accountable to no one but him so we need to be vigilant and make sure he is made to be "transparent" like he promised he was going to be. So far, that has just been another throw away from his campaign. This is too important to the United States to just let it slide. And we sure don't need someone like Lindie spewing nonsense and despicable verbage that desecrates the memory of all those that died on that day. There is no place in THIS country for people like that. Perhaps he/she and Mr. Jones can take the same slow boat to China.

The ants go marching one by one hoorah, hooray, the last one stopped to clean his gun, his past caught up and now he's done and they all go marching down and down and into the ground! I wonder how many more of these leftist liberal red anti-American scumbags are in the Obama Administrations wings? Please no one worry about Mr. Jones, I am sure that he will be very well compensated in his retirement as a Federal employee with your tax dollars!

ox News is the journalistic result when profit-motive is the motivator rather than journalistic integrity.
They'll be around for awhile; they'll just keep tuned in to what sells.

Had Obama fired him, I would have started to respect our president a little bit. This man was a symbol of hate, racism and bigotry. The country is better off without him being in any position of power.

Way to go FOX News. Good job on this one!

Van, I am feeling really bad that you caved in on this issue; however, I understand. Now maybe we will get the same act from the REAL RACIST GLEN BECK, THE IDIOT!!!!!

Sounds like Glenn Beck is trying to resurrect the Cold War anti-communist fear mongering rhetoric. I'm glad that younger readers don't remember those days of bomb-shelter plans like I do. Thank goodness that Mutually Assured Destruction prevented the US from using any more nukes after Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and bought us time to enter into agreements with the then-Soviet Union to reduce arsenals. I am glad that President Obama wants to further reduce nuclear stockpiles and secure loose nuclear material

Mr. Jones should never have given in to the likes of beck, that right, no cap for this nut. I wonder how many of you hateful individuals are nothing but a bunch of bullies. That is what beck is a lying bully – but let a person stand up to him and he runs off like a "little baby girl"".

Oh. So it's only the right wing who can leave open questions about conspiracy theories, huh?

I think every Republican office holder should resign if they've supported "death panel" lies and the birther movement.

I also think that the Republican Party has become such a bastion of pure, unmitigated evil - and the Bush Administration was so obviously evil - that they could indeed have looked the other way on 911. Or maybe even helped the attackers. Look at what they had to gain - a blank check to lead this country any way they liked. And nobody would question it ... at least for a while.

zali – My father would have died in an invasion of Japan if the U.S. had not nuked Japan. Vast numbers of Japanese, far in excess for the numbers that died in the nuke drops, would have also died in that invasion. My real fear is that people like you have a place at the table in the Oabama administration.

Wow..i'm learning more from the bloggers than the reporters....come on CNN do a story on this....get the truth of the matter out. There is a such a thin line today in what is truth vs gossip, smut , smear or whatever. Truth is what we all want. Nothing less.

Glenn Beck is the real hero in all this. He did a great job reporting on this racist, weasel, cop hating, commy, truther signing, ex con who pres Obama chose too put on his white house staff as a czar, so he would not have to answer to Congress> The Prez said " judge me by the people I surround myself with". Believe me, I shall!!!!

Now days it is , An I see a lot of it . Drop out of school , start complaining they have a back problem , then collect disability. Then you see them riding a 4 wheeler , handling railroad ties etc.

So when it gets to hot in the sleeping bag , you get out. So that is what Jones done. Next in line will be _______.

Van Jones has a history of radicalism, adherence to the paranoid 9/11 conspiracies, and is a self avowed communist. Considering his history, it is a crying shame that his resignation will be the first story many mainstream media outlets carry concerning Mr. Jones. Perhaps now we will see some stories on Energy Czar, and member of Socialist International, Carol Browner. Maybe Science Czar John Holdren, he of the forced abortion theory of population control. How about Regulatory Czar Cass Sunstein? He thinks animals should be able to sue people, using human lawyers. Why can't we just have animal affirmative action plans a prestigious law schools? Jones is only the beginning folks.

There are a lot of fine people that Beck has interviewed and gotten info from. He is not telling lies and ranting like crazy. He is truly worried about our country as am I and millions more that have, until now, been quiet and hoping for the best. It's time for all of us to stand up and demand that our country be treated with the respect that it (the USA) deserves. We don't need any more lying czars like this Van Jones to continue to demean our country. He retoric is insane and the President doesn't say a word...............Ummm

All the other networks tried to keep this underwraps shameful reporting . Everyone calling glen beck a nut job, tmaybe right but glen beck didnt make the man sign a etition saying he beleived the government had something to do with 9/11. He also didnt make him call himself a communist. I hope they look into the back ground of all President Obama's czars. It scares me that people with such hatred only have to answer to the president and again it says something about who Obama associates with.

So let me get this straight,

It's *NOT* ok for a Dem appointee to sign a 9/11 conspiracy paper

It *IS* ok for Republican elected officials to promote Birther crap.

    Makes a lot of sense...

Doesn't make sense for a communist to a part of the government of the United States of America. And it's hard to believe that the administration didn't know that fact well before installing him.
