Obama ready to move on tort reform

WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Barack Obama on Wednesday directed his administration to set up demonstration projects in several states to move toward medical malpractice reform, throwing a bone to Republicans who have long called for tort reform to bring down health care costs.

"I don't believe malpractice reform is a silver bullet, but I have talked to enough doctors to know that defensive medicine may be contributing to unnecessary costs," the president said to a joint session of Congress.

He proposed demonstration projects - considered by the Bush administration - "on a range of ideas about how to put patient safety first and let doctors focus on practicing medicine."

Mention of the issue prompted applause from the Republican side of the chamber.

If we are getting serious on Tort Reform, let's do it FIRST! If Obama was serious in sticking it to the lawyers (he and the rest of the administration is in bed with), then America would be willing to take a second look at his health care policy!

Not until he attacks tort reform can he even think to ask for the support of any true American!

    Hey! Bipartisan compromise!

Will the GOP acknowledge it? Nope.

Despite the fact that we've spent months and hundreds of millions debating reform proposals – and we agree on 80 percent of what's being proposed – the GOP wants to throw it all out and start over.

Why? Why not improve what we've already got?

Because the GOP doesn't want meaningful reform. It's just that simple. They want everyone to get tired of the debate and tune out.

It's irresponsible and it's reprehensible. The GOP is doomed politically until they show they're fit to govern again. Marching in lockstep with Rush Limbaugh ain't gonna get it done.

Now that our President is open to the idea of tort reform, Republicans MUST start OPPOSING tort reform by calling it "another marxist, socialist, communist plot to destroy America and turn our country into a Socialist dictatorship."

Representaive Bachman, would you like to take the lead on this one?

On tort reform, I support the President completely.
That is health-care reform without attached socialistic handouts to the lazy.
