(Updated): Wilson's opponent raises more than $500K

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/POLITICS/09/10/obama.heckled.speech/art.joe.wilson.heckling.gi.jpg caption="Joe Wilson's outburst has resulted in a cash windfall for his 2010 Democratic challenger Rob Miller."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - Joe Wilson's outburst has resulted in a cash windfall for his 2010 Democratic challenger Rob Miller.

According to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Miller raised $100,000 overnight from 3,000 individual donors after Wilson shouted "You lie!" at President Obama during his address to Congress on Wednesday night.

Miller released a statement last night accusing Wilson of "engaging in childish name-calling and disrespecting out Commander-in-Chief." Wilson's shout prompted Democrats on the Web to direct donors to Miller's Web site and to the Democratic fundraising site ActBlue.

Miller gave Wilson the toughest re-election challenge of his career last year in one of the country's most conservative congressional districts. Miller lost by eight points, and decided to challenge Wilson again next year.

Wilson apologized to the president after the speech, calling his comments "inappropriate and regrettable."

UPDATE: The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee reported Thursday morning that Miller's post-speech total had risen to $200,000.

UPDATE 2:45 pm: The DCCC reported Thursday afternoon that Miller's new post-speech total had risen to $400,000, via 11,000 individual contributions.

UPDATE: 5:45 p.m.: The DCCC reported Thursday evening that Miller post-speech total had risen to more than $500,000, via 14,000 individual contributions.

One would expect someone in his position to act like an adult. I thought I was watching kindergarden children during an assembly.

GOOD! This disrespectful, political HACK should be unseated, AT LEAST. If he is the voice and face of South Carolina, then this neighboring state of my own should not only be completely and UTTERLY embarrased, but should take immediate action to get rid of him and everyone like him and come back to a civil and truthful tone.

I don't condone the outburst or Obama's hypocrisy, either.
There is NO PROVISION in the any of the DEM health care bills that stipulates the question of a patient's citizenship be asked or proven.

It is intentionally OPEN ENDED to allow coverage of non-citizens and illegal immigrants

Wilson .... Now there is a blantant liar calling someone else a liar. Wilsonrepresents most of the Republican Party these days and that is SAD!

This registered Republican is fed up with guys like Wilson, Rove, Cheney, Rush, Coulter, Hannity and people of that blantant lying, hypocritical, arrogant ilk! It is time they shut up and got serious with ideas that will help the average American and not just their High Income friends and bribe sources..

Joe Wilson should resign. This is typical of the Grand Obstructionist Party with no civility.

I can bet this is going to get a lot of responses. For those who agree with Joe Wilson's statement that the President lied, please provide the specific reference to where the bill states it applies to illegals. I'm sure you've read it and can support Joe's statement with fact. While you search, you can check out Section 246. However, since you've probably never looked at it, and are too lazy, I included it below. Your turn.

Read the bill and it SPECIFICALLY STATES:
SEC. 246. NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS.
Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.

Joe Wilson. Yet another Southern White Male Republican office holder bent on destroying the Republican Party. You Republicans should start searching the Internet and local telephone directories before the next primary election – look under "Libertarian Party". You'll need to know where to go to sign up. The Republican Party is dying. All it needs a "Death Panel".

    Reid Calls Bush a Loser

    By Mike Allen
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Saturday, May 7, 2005

The Senate's top Democrat, Harry M. Reid of Nevada, called President Bush a "loser" yesterday just about the time Air Force One was touching down on foreign soil. Reid immediately called the White House to express regret.

Joe Wilson, scum bag, should be barred from all political gatherings for the rest of his term. This man does not have the maturity to be in the presents of mature adults. Some of our politicans are acting like third world nuts. What a disgrace for America when we have to watch such uncouth actions from one of our elected officials. Shame on you South Carolina if you elect this man again.

Joe Wilson has the mentality of a toad and needs to find something else to do. If this is how he represents his state his constituents should replace him. Wilson has the type of thinking that will lead to a dead end on health care reform. Wilson sounds like he is misdirecting the people back home to make a stand for the Republicans.

Wouldn't it be better if these bigotted and racist jerks mostly from the South just not come to Washington? Maybe just quit their jobs?

What good are they even to their to-the-extreme conservative districts?

They are an embarrassment at the least and scary at the most.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of them actually threatens physical harm to someone, they are so hate-filled.

  19. Nothing 'Stand Up' about Sen. John Ensign (R-NV)

His challenger's name is Miller? Isn't Miller also the name of the guy that Mike Duvall (R-CA) was bragging to the other day about his kinky exploits – including spanking his 36-year-old mistress and a second presumably younger mistress?

ANOTHER "FAMILY VALUES" REPUBLICAN BITES THE DUST...

Yup, Mike Duvall (R-CA) resigned after making those comments to Miller. He had to trade in his phoney "I'm a family values guy" badge and resign from office.

I really feel sorry for all those who vote for Republicans because they claim to be social conservatives and wax on about having superior family values. They must suffer from Cognitive Dissonance Disorder (i.e. deliberate stupidity) or something.

Family values are personal and should be practiced in one's life, not made into a public badge for hypocrites running for political office!

Could Joe Wilson actually make Mark Sanford look like a statesman?

The SC GOP has ruined this state. With people like Wilson, Sanford, and DeMint, we can be absolutely certain that nothing will get done in Washington or Columbia.

Thank you to all those people around the country who went online and gave money to Rob Miller. Rob is a good guy and could beat Wilson with a little cash.

Every year Wilson seems just a touch more mentally unhinged, so he may not even make it to next November.

Mr. Wilson is 100% correct. Obama and the DEMS plans "do allow" illegals to get heavily discounted or free health care. If one of their plans were to pass and a illegal went to purchase insurance, there is nothing there to stop them. The illegal would not have to show any form of documation proving they are a American citizen or legally here. So illegals will be receiving health care in mass. Thanks 100% to the DEMS. Earlier this year the REPS tried to pass a bill saying that anyone who tries to buy health care must show they are a American citizen or legally here. The DEMS down the line voted it down. The DEMS have proven they want illegals to have heavily discounted or free health care. Obama and the DEMS are lying to all of us.

Joe Wilson acted like a redneck last night because he is what he is : a representative of the Rethuglican Party's base. Had he not backed down and apologized for his moronic behavior and ridiculous accusation, Pres Obama would have called Wilson out on his remark about illegal aliens getting coverage under the Dem health care plan. That was a promise made last night our commander in chief made to anyone that wants to lie or spin about the plan. Thats why the GOP told him to apologize. If he had not then Wilson would have to show actual proof about illegals getting free health care. Without proof it would expose the GOP for what they are: obedient lap dogs of big business who will resort to little girly gossip about our Pres. Cowards.
