(Updated): Wilson's opponent raises more than $500K

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Joe Wilson's outburst has resulted in a cash windfall for his 2010 Democratic challenger Rob Miller."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - Joe Wilson's outburst has resulted in a cash windfall for his 2010 Democratic challenger Rob Miller.

According to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Miller raised $100,000 overnight from 3,000 individual donors after Wilson shouted "You lie!" at President Obama during his address to Congress on Wednesday night.

Miller released a statement last night accusing Wilson of "engaging in childish name-calling and disrespecting out Commander-in-Chief." Wilson's shout prompted Democrats on the Web to direct donors to Miller's Web site and to the Democratic fundraising site ActBlue.

Miller gave Wilson the toughest re-election challenge of his career last year in one of the country's most conservative congressional districts. Miller lost by eight points, and decided to challenge Wilson again next year.

Wilson apologized to the president after the speech, calling his comments "inappropriate and regrettable."

UPDATE: The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee reported Thursday morning that Miller's post-speech total had risen to $200,000.

UPDATE 2:45 pm: The DCCC reported Thursday afternoon that Miller's new post-speech total had risen to $400,000, via 11,000 individual contributions.

UPDATE: 5:45 p.m.: The DCCC reported Thursday evening that Miller post-speech total had risen to more than $500,000, via 14,000 individual contributions.

Perhaps one of the dumbest things a politician could have ends in 3, 2, 1!

South Carolina will start offering a new license plate today to more accurately address their population and politicians. At the top it will read "South Carolina" at the bottom it will read "The Republican White Trash State".

What was he thinking! Protocol is sacred in Congress and this guy violated it. Keep your thoughts to yourself during a speech by the commander-in-chief!

How does this look abroad? We need to stay strong and united to the extent possible. Time to get a new job, Joe.

Obama lies..., no question about it. But shouting it during a speech was rude of Joe. And it obviously gives CNN an excuse not to cover Obama's lies. Not that they ever do anyways..

I am SO glad he did it. What a shining moment for the Republican party. Your best and brightest out did himself. Now that you have shown your true colors for not only the President of the United States, but for any person of color it is time for responsible American's to vote these racist, moronic, idiots out of our government. The reason there is so much anomosity for illegal immigration is solely based upon the color of skin. I challenge anyone to tell me there has never been a white person who has come into this country illegally? The problem we don't take census on this group of individuals who also drain our economic stability. Rep Joe Wilson only spoke his true feelings for having to listen to the first Black President of this nation tell America what he is going to do. NEVER in the history of any president addressing Congress has this happened. What does that say about the character of the Republican party? The answer, you don't have any. You are done, extinct like the dinosaurs!

$100,000.00 is a windfall, get real!? Get real CNN, the American people cannot be so stupid as to believe the dog and pony show of last nights speech. Smoke and mirrors, deception and half truths, that is what America got from our fearless Usurper in Chief last night. Let's think back to the way Democrats disrespected George Bush and Dick Cheney over the last 8 years, if they dish it out they better get ready to lick the spoon!

  19. Liberals are Sneaky

CNN, your "Latest News" headlines on the homepage are so misleading. Intentional?

Take this headline for example, "Ticker: Poll finds big swing after Obama speech."

According to the story that's not correct.

The story reported, "The audience for the speech appears to be more Democratic than the U.S. population as a whole. Because of this, the results may favor Obama simply because more Democrats than Republicans tune into the speech."

Please be unbiased in all aspects of journalism, including headline writing.

This is amusing. I thought that CNN would be running the story on "You Lie" as a headliner, I was correct.

Over at Fox, the headliner is about an ACORN employee lying and cheating to use taxpayer money to rent a place for 13 year old prostitutes from Central America.

Now, what is real news, some Congressman calling Obama a liar (which, by the way, he is) or the masses under ACORN robbing the government (that's us taxpayers) of literally millions.

The "liar" during the speech thing is laughable. As soon as members of Congress exit those hallowed halls and get behind a microphone they call Presidents Nazis, liar, murderer and all manner of scum and slime (those were all applied to Bush by Democrats by the way). With the lowest approval rating in history Congress continues its elitist hypocritical behaviour without end.

So, don't get your undies in a twist over this "liar" thing.

    They report, you decide.

I am one of the unfortunate contituents of this guy in Columbia SC. He is a cloaked bigot with tolerance issues for people of other races and faiths.
Let me tell you a true story. A friend of mine who is a Muslim American citizen was seperated for a year in getting his wife from her home country due to delayed processing of her papers by the USCIS. He called this Congressman's office and got a very rude reply from an assistant about how the US is at war and "why does'nt he simply go home and re-unite with her there".

What has become of the Republican Party?

Honestly, are there any civil, educated, reasonable people left on the right? If it were not so embarrasing to the country, it would be laughable.

Who needs Al Queda or any other terrorist group trying to bring down this country when we have rightwingers like this in our midst. What a shame.

We are at a time at war, both in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Joe Wilson's outburst is deliberately treasonous. At the least he should be impeached. If any justice still existed in America, he would be imprisoned.
