(Updated): Wilson's opponent raises more than $500K

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/POLITICS/09/10/obama.heckled.speech/art.joe.wilson.heckling.gi.jpg caption="Joe Wilson's outburst has resulted in a cash windfall for his 2010 Democratic challenger Rob Miller."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - Joe Wilson's outburst has resulted in a cash windfall for his 2010 Democratic challenger Rob Miller.

According to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Miller raised $100,000 overnight from 3,000 individual donors after Wilson shouted "You lie!" at President Obama during his address to Congress on Wednesday night.

Miller released a statement last night accusing Wilson of "engaging in childish name-calling and disrespecting out Commander-in-Chief." Wilson's shout prompted Democrats on the Web to direct donors to Miller's Web site and to the Democratic fundraising site ActBlue.

Miller gave Wilson the toughest re-election challenge of his career last year in one of the country's most conservative congressional districts. Miller lost by eight points, and decided to challenge Wilson again next year.

Wilson apologized to the president after the speech, calling his comments "inappropriate and regrettable."

UPDATE: The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee reported Thursday morning that Miller's post-speech total had risen to $200,000.

UPDATE 2:45 pm: The DCCC reported Thursday afternoon that Miller's new post-speech total had risen to $400,000, via 11,000 individual contributions.

UPDATE: 5:45 p.m.: The DCCC reported Thursday evening that Miller post-speech total had risen to more than $500,000, via 14,000 individual contributions.

    Wilson is a coward.

If he felt so sttrongly that Obama was lying, he shouldn't apologize. He should say, "I have nothing to be sorry for, Obama WAS lying, here's the proof", and cite the passages where it shows Obama was lying. He must know where they are, since he was so sure about it.

Does CNN remind you when democrats booed and mocked Pres Bush when he addressed Congress on national TV? Of course not!

Does CNN point out their polls are bogus and only counted democrats? Of course not!

CNN is a joke for news and is now solely for socialism and liberalism!

    Thank God for Fox News.

This stupid twit needs to be publicly horse-whipped in the senate chamber, something his fellow Republican rednecks used to do to black people in his completely backward and corrupt (Mark Sanford)
    state.

wilson needs to worry about how poor they are running sc. they need a plan beyond health care. what about the people in sc, who work for the state don't pay any preminums for health care, they go on the tax payers money. he needs to sit down somewhere and get his own state in order.

I'm not a president Obama fan, but to call the President of the United States of American a "Lier" in front of the nation and all of congress is absolutely unacceptable. Respect of the office must be maintained no matter who is in office. His apology while acceptable must be met with discipline.

Why can't a lie be called a lie? What's wrong with the truth? BTW, the "double-digit jump in the poll" lie is a lie.

Only a Republican would ever do this. It has always been the Republicans who show so much disrespect the office of the President. Since the Gingrich Revolution they have shown that winning for the rich is their only purpose and n ot in helping America.
Wilson being so publicly ignorant just proves the point.

    Joe Wilson is a disgrace.

I just hope he's not representative of the people of South Carolina - I guess we'll find out next year's election.

At long last, one man has the guts to call Obama what he is in front of Congress and the American people! Thank you, Joe. Where can I send my campaign contribution? I'm not rich, but this man deserves our support!

What an incredible blunder for Wilson! Two little words in one immature outburst have just given $100K to his opponent.

Is this the GOP's master plan for regaining relevance?

WHen will you and all of the media just come out and tell your audience that the rude and disrespectful comments made by the politicians (who hail from the South) and the other racists from the Mid west cannot get over the fact that "A Black Man is the Leader of their country. It was so evident when you looked at the faces of the white politicians during Obama's speech. It was one of total disdain and even hate. Will these politicians and Obama Haters still react this way when they one day find out that God may be a Black Man?

I would like to donate to Wilson's opponent too. We need politicians who can have an honest and civil debate. I can't stand Limbaugh type politicians.

The racist trash who are Wilson's followers, will no doubt be very supportive of him! Again. If this isn't based on racism, then I don't know what is! When has any POTUS ever been disrespected as much as Obama? The right-wing trash bloggers are already defending Wilson? What happened to
patriotism, especially respecting the Office? Trash, just trash!!!

Joe Wilson and the other Republicans who shouted, waved signs and papers. You just made yourself look more buffoonish and made the President look even more Presidential . I expect the President's numbers to start climbing back up.

His only regret is that it will backfire. Republicans are digging their own graves. Just look from sea to shining sea and see for yourselves.

I don't know that there is anything you could actually say that would better define the actions of some of the far-right Republicans than the embarassing spectacle Rep. Wilson made of himself last night. I hope the citizens of his state remember this when he comes up for re-election.
