McDonnell drops F-bomb in live interview

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Republican Bob McDonnell dropped the F-bomb during a radio interview."]

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Bob McDonnell, the normally-disciplined Republican candidate for governor in Virginia, mistakenly blurted out the F-bomb during a live radio interview on Friday.

Appearing on Washington-area radio station WTOP, McDonnell was sparring with host Mark Plotkin on the topic of transportation funding.

Plotkin asked if McDonnell would consider an increase in the state gasoline tax to help fund the transportation budget. McDonnell said no, and uttered the expletive during his response.

"So no tax will be raised during your four-year term?," Plotkin asked.

McDonnell answered: "I'm going to find other ways to be able to fund transportation. I've outlined twleve f-ing funding mechanisms that are creative, that are entrepreneurial."

The remark was first flagged by the Virginia Democratic blog NotLarrySabato.

McDonnell is running against Democrat Creigh Deeds in the governor's race, one of two marquee political battles in 2009 along with the New Jersey governor's race.

UPDATE: McDonnell communications director Tucker Martin said McDonnell's remark was nothing more than a verbal flub.

"At one point Bob was speaking quickly, and in trying to say 'funding mechanism,' he stumbled and accidentally said another word," Martin said. "It was unintentional, and anyone who spends any time around Bob knows he does not use such language. It was an accident. It is that simple."

Martin called it "disappointing" that the Deeds campaign is spending "so much time and energy aggressively pushing this absolutely trivial matter to every blog and media outlet they can think of."

This falls in the category of BFD.

He wasn't in attack mode – it was being used as an adjective to describe his plans, so .

I'm a sixties liberal who doesn't vote if there's no Democrat running. My handle in other venues is the descriptive "yellowdog."

This guy is a hypocritical "christian" moron – and this "slip" just gives us another peek into what sewage scum McConnell really is.

After all, he is a graduate of "Box Top U", better know as Regent University, home of the "I'm holier than thou" school of rethuglican politics, morals and family values...

Jeremiah the Prophet seems to think it is a simple matter of voting one way or the other, I guess. You need to do some reading Mr. Prophet. As long as we have a Senate which rewards small states for remaining ignorant and racist, we can't have progress. Just look at Health Care. The "Gang of Six." Here we have six senators defining our Health Care "Reform" package. Do you know how many people they represent? The total of all thier states is less than that of New Jersey.

And guess who cleans up at the federal table? California with 13% of our population? Not a chance. THe large states pay the taxes, the little ones get the money. Then their idiodic representatives like Wilson, Palin, and Perry run around calling people liars, claiming our proposed legislation is designed to kill gramdma, or proposing they might secede from the Union. The folks who ought to be seceding are the states who pay in to Uncle Sam more than get out. It ain't Texas, Alaska, or South Carolina, you can bet.

Wow....civil discourse has really gone right out the window. The kool-aid drinking, Jesus freak fringe has almost completely taken over the Republican party. But I am sure "God" will forgive them all their many indiscretions. Not much room for moderates anymore. Let's all go into debt giving trillions to tax cuts and funding the ever expanding "defense" department and war appropriations. But if the president tries to fix our lamentable health care system and shore up the economy the right wing fanatics only then scream about the debt. The so called "fiscal conservatives" are rediculous. Snowe is the last hold out for any glimmer of reason and civility in that land of crazies known as republand.

Oh please get over it. If this does anything it will get him more votes. People like to know that those in government are part human. As for JonDie the Christian basher. Just like you Christians sin we are all born into sin. Some of us curse, smoke, drink and do drugs. That makes us weak addictive Christians but just like you GOD still loves us and understands we have shortcomings which is why he sent his beloved son so that all who accept him may be forgiven their sins and saved through him. GOD unlike alot of people knows we are just human after all.

Are you describing the Democrats? Democrats try to condemn Republicans for the very thing that they themselves do everyday. Hypocrites! CNN is just trying to do its' part to destroy the RNC. Does anyone notice how much they try to paint Democrats in a good light and Republicans in a bad light? They do this until real news organizations force them to report on actual news and then it look bad for Democrats, and not good for CNN.

Of course the Republicans will say this is OK and give 100 cases of where Dems have done it. But it shows a lack of discipline, which for an executive office is required.

You liberals are like the pot calling the kettle black. Your glorious leader Teddy covered-up manslaughter and probably an affair. And what do you mean about Repubs stealing taxpayer money??? Spendobama is destroying our future and the future of our great grandchildren with his unfettered spending and debt. Oh, and I see the Muslims are going to have their prayer day on the steps of the Capital on 9/25. Their motto is "Our Time Has Come". That is the "Change" we needed. Wake Up America!! Before it is too late.

Another Republican lacking any sort of manners whatsoever. Not surprising coming from the lunatic fringe of the right wing in this country. How does he expect to run Virginia when he can't even control what he says on the radio?
