Wilson says no more apologies for outburst against president

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson said Sunday that he will not apologize again for his recent outburst during the president's address to Congress."]
(CNN) - Rep. Joe Wilson said Sunday he will not apologize again for yelling out that President Barack Obama lied during the president's speech to Congress last week.

"I am not going to apologize again," the South Carolina Republican said on "FOX News Sunday" when asked about pending disciplinary steps against him by the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives.

Wilson said he already apologized to Obama and that the president accepted it. However, he insisted that Obama "was mis-stating the facts," and that Democratic leaders in the House were "playing politics" by continuing to focus on the issue.

President Obama did not misstate the facts. He said the bill (or in this case bills) do not provide any provisions that allow for illegal immigrants to participate.

Now the republicans are saying that that may be true but there is no mechanism to verify people who buy and thus illegals can then buy. That is no different than it is today. Nothing will change unless verification procedures are in place.

So instead of saying the president lied or misstated facts, which he did not... Republicans could have / should have brought the issue up, said it was of concern to them, and worked for a solution.

Their disrespectful and childish tacticts these last 2 months (not to mention the entire 8 years under Bush) are truly disturbing..

Is that all liberals can do is call someone a racist because we dont agree that DISTRUBUTION of WEALTH and taking from EARNERS and giving to the POOR is FAIR? All the liberals want to do is ROB people who educate themselves and earn a better check and give that to people who are lazy and live off of govt handouts. It is all about the POWER. Government is working to control every part of our lives and they are winning. What do we call people like Michael Steel who is a black republican? Let me guess....An uncle Tom?

None of this was "spontaneous" or whatnot.... Wilson (perhaps alone, perhaps with party fore-knowledge) planned this to raise cash and make himself the martyr/hero of the radical right.

At this point, the debate has (inevitably, given how the lazy, 24-hour news cycle operates) gotten off track: It is NOT whether Obama is "lying" or whether Wilson is "lying." The problem with Wilson's outburst was the outburst itself: it is outrageous and wrong to heckle the President of the United States during an address to a joint session of Congress. PERIOD.

And, yes, I would say the EXACT SAME THING if a Democratic Congressman had shouted an insult during a speech by Bush.

The right wing in this country–fed by ogres such as Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck–is dangerous and unhinged. I fear that in the near future we will be hearing open discussion in "mainstream" conservative forums that violence against Obama and/or his family is justified to "save the country."

Joe Wilson should be tanking god every second of the day that he has not been tossed out of the House for his display of disrespect for the Ofice of President of the United States. In modern times even Elected Congressmen are expected to mantain a certain decorum in their behavior.

For those we feel that Obama is not a good president and getting frustrated with him....Take a minute to ask yourself why do i feel this way. With alot of comments on this board a lot of people are sound like biggots towards our new president....

.Think about it, we have a president, no matter what his color may be, came into office and said im going to try to Work for the PEOPLE and give the PEOPLE answers to their questions. He hasnt been in office that long but he notify how great in dedit we are in.....How can bush for 8years keep diging this country in a Trillion dollar dedit yet no one in congress says anything out loud to the PEOPLE. Obama has taken a look at every with and without health benefits and seen the decline, and its sad because a lot of people who dont have health insurance and need as well as deserve it cant afford to get taken care of..
Every Great outcome takes time. We cant expect Obama to fix a country that republicans have ran into the ground ever since they have elected Bush into office not just for one term but two.. 8years is a long time..
It seems that republicans need a escape goat so they try to make our new president look bad....I let me take that back...I KNOW THE republicans NEED TO GO BACK TO PRESCHOOL AND LEARN THAT ITS NOT NICE THE POINT FINGURE BECAUSE IN THE END YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE 3 FINGURES POINTING BACK AT YOU.....
    Live life and fell blessed

Obama is a left wing sellout...the party of racism (democrats) supported by the very people they fought to keep in slavery and to prevent equal rights to. The democrats fought hard against people of color, now through LIES they have tricked them into supporting them. Wake up...all people...the time is now to get rid of both parties and go independent! Tear off the label.

"Harry Reid and Nancy Polesi both said the same thing several times when Bush was president…. Where was the feigned outrage back then!"

What an idiotic question. NObody is decrying his right to state his opinion, or Reid's or Pelosi's. Freedom of speech is not the question. Like them, he could have issued a statement or held a press conference to exercise his freedom to speech.

What the questioner is stating is that it is somehow appropriate or okay to exercise the free speech during a presidential address before a joint session of Congress. It is not. If Pelosi or Reid had called Bush out on anything or bemoaned him when he was giving a speech, liberals would have been all over them.

Problem is, Liberals show respect and can engage in polite discourse. Conservatives, unfortunately cannot.... proven time and time and time and time again...

I'm a Democrat and agree that Civil War II is about to begin in this country.

And from now on, I won't refer to anyone as being a "Republican" anymore. I'll just call them what they are, a member of the Racist Party.

So despite the objections of Racist members of the U.S. House, I think the Democrats should maybe consider expelling this ignorant piece of Racist Party trash.

Joe Wilson has singlehandedly locked Obama into NOT providing healcare for illegal/undocumented aliens.

The left bit hook line and sinker what a stinker

Can't wait for 2010 to see the right back in

The more focus on this issue the more the public realizes the dangers posed by Obama and the fanatical left, he is now a one term president.

Why is it that the Liberals can stand and applaud everyten seconds at one of these PRO liberal meetings and Joe Wilson calls him out on something that was proven to be TRUE on and people are attacking him. Obama is so far LEFT with his policies that his bipartisan speeches in the runoffs are now laughable. Keep fighting for our constitution.

Joe Wilson is no different from the Tea Baggers or the Birthers, no respect for the PRESIDENT, I bet ole good ole boy Joe is still gritting his teeth from having to apologize to a black man, look at where he lives REDNECK STATE OF THE CENTURY..... he does not feel as though he should apologize, he felt he needed to b/c he is neck and neck with his opponent.

No one wants to talk about racism, but if Obama was his color this would have never happened. They need to get over the fact that we have an African American as President, and thats what the people chose. Because the people chose to put him in office (black and white), the rednecks better be careful, its just a matter of time before they no longer exist except for in the BACKWOODS, were cowards and racists belong, we have no place for them in this society.

When you are made to apologize it is not from the heart , so is meaningless anyway. Pres Obama knows this and he was still gracious. He (Wilson) like so many of the his party like to be disagreeable for the sake of being disagreeable. Even when you read in the HR3200 that it states that non citizens are not covered in subsides , he and his party still keep beating a dead horse .

After listening to and watching some of the tea baggers , I am convinced , there can be no meeting in the middle . Many have really gone over the edge with no way back up.

But with many gullible people , if they did not vote for Obama , if they are prone to have this mindset to be disagreeable, if they have a bit of racial bigotry hidden in their hearts and if they are southern or Southern Baptists, many completely close their minds to anything having to do with Democrats (they are all immoral) or with Obama (he is a communist) Ridulous , utter stupidity that these people just do not want to concede to anything. Non are all right or all wrong but they like Wison just will not agree that this is a truth!

"Weren't the Democrats fighting each other for the microphone to denounce Saddam Hussein and his WMDs as early as 1998? Didn't Clinton proclaim regime change as the official US policy with Iraq? Wasn't Senator Robert Byrd (D. WV) a member of the KKK?"

What does this have to do with this public representative interrupting the Presidents speech? I find it funny how whenever you criticize a Republicans actions, all you get is name calling and diversions from the topic.

But really Brian52, if we must school you on your "diversions" then so be it. Democrats were relying on the same intel that Pres. Bush was that he so confidently used to convince everyone to vote for his fraudulent war. Sen Byrd was from another time in America, its not a proud moment in history but its a reality. Americans also locked up Japanese Americans during WWII, we moved Native Americans to reservations, and we had slavery too. No public official or individual is perfect. Sometimes people change and sometimes they dont. But those are now history, we are focusing on this nimwits misbehavior. Lets stick to topic otherwise.

Sad..... method is divide and conqueror... being used by politicians on both side, the wealthy and the have knots who choose not to research and get the facts, pro or con to their agenda.

This country is headed for trouble...... will be the wealthy ( who are building up their resources (Banks, insurance companies, credit cards).

The next time you are in downtown in whatever major city you live take a look around, the biggest and tallest building are insurance companies and banks.

The gop is in a world of trouble because of this guy, telemund just did a poll,70% of latinos said they wouldnot ever vote for a republican again and 86% said they intend to vote democratic in the next election, this is very bad news for the gop, because the gop cant afford the latino cummunity voting 90% like the african american votes, the gop leaders better get on tv in distance themselves from this guy,or they is going to pay a big price,if the democrats gets that many latinos to vote for them, that means the gop would have to get 66% of the white vote to even tie obama in 2012,this is not good at all for the gop,the more the media talks about this guy the worse its get for the gop in the latino cummunity.

to Jeremy in Florida who poseted in comment on 9-13...if you take a look a lot of " Poor people" are hard working 7 days a weeks sometimes american who might need a little help to keep their money at home to take care of what they have to. If you look around some poor people are elderly and retired vets. When you get to a certain age all the things you worked for your entire life shoud not be taken from you because you are trying to enjoy life, but instead you are focused on how to pay your copays for your health like medicines and just the simple cost of living so again....THINK, which might seem hard to some, BEFORE YOU SPEAK
