WASHINGTON (CNN) - House Minority Leader John Boehner told CNN a resolution of disapproval against South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson is a "diversion" to help Democrats avoid talking about health care.
Many Democrats have attacked Wilson for yelling "you lie" during President Obama's address to Congress last week, and the House is expected to vote on a resolution Tuesday disapproving of the Republican lawmaker's conduct on Tuesday afternoon. Boehner called Wilson, who has since apologized, a "good man" and said that he was "thankful that the president accepted his apology."
"This tactic on the floor today is nothing more than a diversion so that they don't have to talk about their government run health care plan," Boehner told CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "I just think we ought to be talking about what the American people sent us here to do, and that's to solve the issues they're concerned about."
Boehner said that if a Democrat had shouted the same thing during one of former President Bush's speeches and later apologized to the White House, "that would be the end of it."
As a new CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll shows support for the war in Afghanistan at an all-time low, Boehner said he hopes Obama "will continue to listen these people on the ground" in his decision on whether or not to send more troops.
"Listen to their recommendations. They're the people who are there and I just believe that walking away from Afghanistan would be a giant mistake for our country," Boehner said. "I've supported the president's initiatives both in Iraq and in Afghanistan, and I'm hopeful that the president will continue to listen to these people on the ground as he comes to a decision."
Politicians are silly. If it was the other way around – a Democrat that heckled Bush – the GOP would be calling for the offender's head. These people are as goofy as their counterparts were centuries ago.
And this from the guy who heads up the party of diversion in the House.
If anybody would know diversion, delay and obstructionism it certainly is Boner, the biggest rethuglican hack and non-thinker since the days of Bushie & DeLay...
Eventually, everyone will figure out that they are about to be required by law to give all they can "afford" to insurance execs in exchange for health insurance with deductibles so high they won't be able to afford actual health care.
The real question is will Obama & Company be able to ram this thing through Congress before enough people find out?
If he does, your family will all gather around grandma while Obama's proposed "Independent Medicare Advisory Council" pulls the plug on her.
You can fool some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but all you need to do is fool enough of the people enough of the time.
What a scam.
Yea it's a diversion, they are getting hammered from all sides right now, their failing health bill, uhmamba's pet Acorn, poll numbers dropping like a rock, thousands of people protesting in the streets nine months into his term, having to look at Pelosie every day, how much worse can it get?
I am proud of Mr Wilson for speaking up!! kudos to you! What is wrong with speaking the truth? Apparently the dems or Reps can't handle the truth. Mr. President if you can't handle the heat then get out of the kitchen. I voted for you and I have felt nothing but fear since you have been in. You have lost my confidence.
I think it is absolutely rediculous that the "you lie" comment has made such a big deal. It could be because it is the truth and the truth hurts. LISTEN UP MR. PRESIDENT...YOU ARE NOT DOING WHAT YOU PROMISED YOU ARE HURTING THIS COUNTRY!!! Plus I am sick of seeing you on T.V. you are extremely over exposed!!! Maybe you should stay in the White House and take care of business. You talk to much and are not doing enough work.
The comment was made in the open by Leadership. It was wrong and disrespectful to the President and the Office of the President. In order to stop this type disrespect in Congress/House – open rebuke is needed and an open apology to the office of the president (if he can't bring himself to apologize to Obama) and his fellow lawmakers. It will spread like a cancer if you don't deal with it.
There are certain lines that should not be crossed. You don't have to agree with the President, but you should be an example of "respect" for the office. He's not just some Joe Blow voicing his opinion.
For God sakes he the President of the United States.
Democrats are scum. They are lazy, they expect everyone to provide for them instead of working for it. They deserve what they get.
The Reublican are cowards. They are NEGATIVE in every situation. Just say "NO" to everything, except to that which they feel is right. they know Nothing about compromising – the "HUMAN" element. I have yet to hear anything positive from them. They don't stand a chance in the coming election – I don't care how bad the Democrats perform.
They had better hurry up and get it together. The conservative base is not enough. They give the apperance of "radical Hoodlums" in order to get their way. It just won't work.
Stay tuned...
Thats all these dems want to do is change the focus of conversation in the country. They don't have two legs in the argument.
Hey "BONER" shouldn't you be in a spray tanning booth somewhere right now?
Don't think the rep are all stupids. They will prove it on the next election, they will change their affiliation
How stupid is this guy for heavens sake, Democrats don't want to talk about health care, am I hearing correctly, now that the repugs are in the toilet again they want us to beleive that they want to talk about health care when all the time they are trying to distroy any health care resolution, man I cannot beleive who elected this idiot to the house, go sit in a tanning salon that is all you are good for.
Boehner is another guy that is dangerous to the American people. This acting leader feeds on rightwing extreimism. He followed Bush in his years while he was in the White House. Now he is trying to rescue all his rightwing friends. The American people can see through Boehner, Wilson, Alexander, Mcconell and the rest of the extreme rightwingers and how their policies affects America in a negative way. These people needs to be voted out of office and replaced with leaders that will look at the common good of the people and not at just a few or their rightwing ideology. It makes common sense to help the people of their own country and not try to vote down everything that the majority in the House or Senate votes on, so it will help the people. Boehner is a obstruction for America instead of a help.
Many GOPers sure know a thing or two about diversion, which makes Boehner hypocritical (again). In fact, Rep. Wilson was desperately trying to "divert" during his disgraceful outburst, which his party fringe now appears to condone such nonsense.
Is this guy for real??? Health care reform is all the democrats have been talking about, this party of stupid followers needs to grow up!!
It's a diversion alright. It keeps us from thinking about all the good work that the Republicans AREN'T doing right now.
Back to work, slacker. You will have to work with everyone in order to fix any of the messes you are partially responsible for.
This dude is from Ohio yet he sports a killer suntan. Talk about wasting time, maybe he should care less about trying to appear "dark" and get to work on important matters.
Boehner, Boehner, Boehner! If anyone knows how to create a diversion, the GOP's are the master! That’s the problem; your party hasn’t rationally talked about heath care since the start of the debate. Instead, you’ve decided to twist the truth, brain wash the gullible and assemble lynch mobs to shout out their racial frustrations. What a sad day in America when you see people who claim they love this country but hate Americans. It’s funny how you and your “boys” screamed bloody murder when Mr. Van Jones had the nerves to speak the truth about the past administration’s illegal handlings of this country but yet you think Wrong Way Wilson is a “good guy” and should not be reprimanded? Yes, he is one of the “good ole boys” you deep old southern” folks worship. What an embarrassment we must seem to other countries. We take two steps forward and twenty backwards. A sad day in America, indeed!
It IS a diversion, you idiots! He has aplogized and it was accepted by your exalted leader. Do you remember the things Harry Reid said about Bush? Where were you then? Now Nancy Pelosi is having dinner with the insurance lobbyists? Post something about that duplicitous old hag . By the way, another word for duplicitous is
Democrat
Once again I say, the ONLY just punishment for Wilson is for the good people of his District to vote him OUT of Office!
Hate, lies, fear, division, can not be rewarded. In 2008, America rejected the vile politics of the far-right. The GOP doesn't get it.
STOP THE HATE.......... STOP THE LIES!
A diversion? Really? I thought your bronzer was a diversion. Tea parties are a diversion. Joe Wilson is a diversion. Where are your plans Mr. Boehner? Where is your health care reform package?
Boehner is so dishonest. He acts like he cares about your health care, but all he wants to do is preserve the status quo.
Boehner is letting his political goals override his respect for the very Congress of which he is a part, not to mention the Office of the United States President. One would think that every member of Congress would have voted to rebuke Wilson for his uncivil outburst, regardless of their party or political philosphy.
Obama and the rest of the Democrates admonish Wilson, These Democrates DONT GET IT, they are all JOKES. Admonish Frank for not respecting a constituent. If you worked for me I'D FIIRE THE LOT OF YOU. Democrates are jokes and a waste of human flesh with their private government control agendas.
The entire Republican party (along with their formerly-locked-in-the-attic children The Teabaggettes) are a diversion – from functioning government and the idea that humanity deserves to continue.
