Boehner: Wilson resolution a 'diversion'

House Minority Leader John Boehner told CNN a resolution of disapproval against South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson is a "diversion" to help Democrats avoid talking about health care.

Many Democrats have attacked Wilson for yelling "you lie" during President Obama's address to Congress last week, and the House is expected to vote on a resolution Tuesday disapproving of the Republican lawmaker's conduct on Tuesday afternoon. Boehner called Wilson, who has since apologized, a "good man" and said that he was "thankful that the president accepted his apology."

"This tactic on the floor today is nothing more than a diversion so that they don't have to talk about their government run health care plan," Boehner told CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "I just think we ought to be talking about what the American people sent us here to do, and that's to solve the issues they're concerned about."

Boehner said that if a Democrat had shouted the same thing during one of former President Bush's speeches and later apologized to the White House, "that would be the end of it."

As a new CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll shows support for the war in Afghanistan at an all-time low, Boehner said he hopes Obama "will continue to listen these people on the ground" in his decision on whether or not to send more troops.

"Listen to their recommendations. They're the people who are there and I just believe that walking away from Afghanistan would be a giant mistake for our country," Boehner said. "I've supported the president's initiatives both in Iraq and in Afghanistan, and I'm hopeful that the president will continue to listen to these people on the ground as he comes to a decision."

Does this guy get up each morning and spray on his sun tan? No one could get this much sun, if they work 5 days a week inside the nations captiol. But if it's from the sun, that would explain the brain damage.

Yes Bohner, that is exactly what you would be saying it a Democrat interrupted Bush's speech. A waste of time.

I don't know maybe you should bring back resolutions to change french fries to freedom fries again.

The gall of Republicans is enough to make your head explode.

This from a man who passed out 10,000 dollar checks from the tobacco company lobbyists on the House floor.

I'm sure you have our best interests Bohner.

Rebuke, censure or admonish him, whichever will get this on the record quickly so this can be over and done.

There MUST be a line that can not be crossed. A public admonishment or similar punishment just might restore at least a bit of decorum to public office and possibly start some civil behavior.

The Wilson "YOU LIE" comment was actually a diversion by the Republicans to take the focus off the TRUE CRIMINALS THAT GOT US INTO THIS MESS...... Bush/Cheney

"There are certain lines that should not be crossed. You don't have to agree with the President, but you should be an example of "respect" for the office. He's not just some Joe Blow voicing his opinion."

You mean Joe the Plummer, Sam.

No, Johnny, it's your bad tan, toxic attitude and the refuse that flows from your right-wing, nutjob, poisoned trap that qualifies as "diversion".

This is not a diversion. More attention needs to be paid to all of these Republivcans with their depraved activities especially Boehner, Cantor, Wilson, and the like need to be censored as well.

Why is congress wasting time on something this trivial? The people that are in charge of making the laws of this land are acting like spoiled brats. I have never seen anything this stupid in my life. These people are supposed to be bright, just goes to show you don't have to be smart to be a politician I guess. They all need to be replaced with people that act like grown ups mentally.

  21. Perusing-through

What Joe Wilson did was historic, unprecedented, wrong, and “driven by hate”. Let us not kid ourselves. It was hate that drove Joe to do the very thing he would admonish his subordinates in South Carolina National Guard not to do. If Congress does not draw a line here, than when do you draw a line? After Joe throws a shoe at the President? May GOD help the nation if Congress gets to that point!
