Joe Wilson passes $2 million mark

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/09/14/art.youlie.gi.jpg caption="South Carolina congressman Joe Wilson has raked in more than $2 million since he shouted at President Obama."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - South Carolina Republican congressman Joe Wilson has now raised over $2 million in campaign contributions since he shouted "You lie!" at the president earlier this month.

A campaign aide confirmed that Wilson surpassed the $2 million mark on Monday.

Wilson and his 2010 opponent, Democrat Rob Miller, each raised more than $1.5 million in the week after Wilson's outburst, which occurred during President Obama's address to a joint session of Congress on September 9.

The House voted to formally reprimand Wilson last week, amidst an aggressive online fundraising effort by the congressman's staff.

Miller is scheduled to visit Washington on Wednesday for a pair of fundraisers on Capitol Hill.

Will the house do the same thing to the fine people who booed President Bush I don't think so. Politics as usual Democrats continue to cry and could care less about important issues like to rising national debt and on and on and on.

Do you think we will have a government by the people for the people ever.

Term limitation vote the bums out. If they won't pass term limits then we need to vote them out. When are we going to stop letting them give themselves raises too.

Bad behavior is now being rewards with money ($2 million). What a message to send to our young children. I guess my son can speak out of term and say whatever he wants whenever he wants. There is a time and place to express your feeling and South Carolina Republican congressman Joe Wilson choose the wrong time and place to do so. He embarrassed our country, the president and himself.

He he he.....let the wingnuts waiste all their money in an uncompetative district. I like it.

In 1856 Senator Preston Brooks – naturally of South Carolina – beat Senator Charles Sumner with his cane. The beating was so severe that Sumner passed out in the aisle in a pool of blood, and proceeded to spend the next several weeks in the hospitial. Brooks broke his cane in the beating. Following the assault South Carolina wing-nuts sent Brooks dozens of canes, most bearing the slogan "hit him again."

The speech that Sumner had give that so angred the wing-nuts....was against slavery. South Carolina; first to secede.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

I'm sure Mr. Wilson did this for notoriety and to become a "hero" to the fools of his party. And it surely hasn't hurt his bank account either. Glad he was called out for it by Congress and hopefully this Bozo will be voted out of office. We don't need this kind of politics in our country.

What's with the Senator sitting to the right of him? Was he constipated?

This is a self fulfilling prophecy and more evidence that the media can't stay focused on the real issues. The more you report this silliness the more the lunatics (on the left and the right) will send money to this meaningless little district for this meaningness little election. It's one seat, in the south, that votes RED for everything.

Honestly, CNN, I'm about to change news sources. Grow up. Move on. Joe Wilson is a borish thug. South Carolina loves this kind of guy. His reelection is a lock and not a bellweather of things to come. Where is the news???

Isn't it sad that a disrespectul, inaccurate comment by a politician totally ignoring the honor and integrity of our polical system gains from
    such action.
Even worse, he is proud and touting his disgusting behavior,
continuing on with his lies and distortions.
Are there any good republicans out there and why are not speaking
out against their parties irresponsible, unAmerican, sewer tactic?

"A fool and his money are easily parted." Those who contribute to this idiot (big business/insurance) are as stupid as he is.

And who says it doesn't pay to be a boorish, closed-minded imbecile lacking in civility!

There's always one in every crowd. Sadly, though, the crowd is getting to be a mob!

Once agian, America's democracy bought and paid for. Nothing about how Wilson is going to help the country and what he stands for...just more money.

How many votes can 2 million buy? Why heck, for the whole 2 million I might even vote for a repugnant, and then I might just pretend that I did.

This isn't the first time Wilson has behaved poorly. His poor attitude is reflective of his constituents who themselves seem to admire a certain brand of crazy.

The neo-confederates will finish what their ancestors failed to accomplish. They won't be happy until they tear this nation apart.

Is anyone surprised? A large cross-section of the US would like to see Obama fail at any cost. Joe Wilson was completely wrong in his outburst. he disrespected the office first then Obama. However, some Americans simply do not care as long as Obama fails. Some are in FACT motivated by race others by hate (of liberals) and still others by genuine philosophical differences. The problem is that the line between the groups is fuzzy at best.

Perhaps Mr. Wilson may step forward to lead in 2010, or even in 2012.

Too bad there isn't a third party, with that kind of ethical leadership, to call leadership, on their misleading statements.

When Democrat outraised Republicans, Repubs want to investigate and stop fund raising, but when the outraised Democrats... they like it and say it's ok... funny.

I'll bet its all grass roots money from the voters in his district. I think he has the ethics to decline money from the out of state pop-eyed town hall shouters. You know–the pawns of the Armey and Glenndiddly Beker "movement:

My money's going to 13-year Marine Corps veteran Rob Miller. Joe Wilson is an embarrassment to his state, his country and the U.S. Congress, a fake and a liar besides.
