Obama continues media blitz on Letterman

NEW YORK (CNN) - President Obama mixed policy discussion with personal reflections on his daughters and, yes, a few jokes in an appearance on CBS's "Late Show With David Letterman," taped Monday afternoon.

was the first time a sitting president has been a guest on the popular late-night entertainment show, according to the CBS Web site.

After taking the stage to a huge ovation, Obama teased Letterman about being surprised to see the event on his daily schedule, saying: "That's one of those where you ask your advisers, 'who's responsible for this?' "

Later, when talking about summer activities of daughters Malia, 11, and Sasha, 8, Obama said that they "goofed off," which he added was something he couldn't do. Letterman quickly quipped: "Well, you have," prompting a big laugh from both the audience and the president.

On topical issues, Obama promised to ask "tough questions" before deciding whether to send additional U.S. troops to Afghanistan, saying it was necessary to have a clear strategy in place before deploying resources.

Obama is taking over our TV's!! Enough of him already. Not enough he went on 5 networks (cautiously avoiding FOX, where he knew he wouldn't be able to answer REAL questions) and then repeated again on Letterman. Geez, we don't watch Letterman for political brainwashing. Pretty funny to see a medley of the Sunday shows played side by side where he pretty much was a broken record with the same old worn out rhetoric. When will this man understand we aren't buying what he is selling.............no matter how he tries to repackage it.

I am so tired of seeing Obama on T.V.! Does he really think that people want to see him every day on T.V.? The only thing worse is now seeing his wife everyday on T.V. telling us what is best for us and our families, like she has any idea what is best for my family. What a joke! The more I see them and hear their lies the more I am turned off, and I voted for Obama.

Letterman's ratings were at an all time low last night, I get people really are getting sick of seeing Obama all the time. Everytime Obama states a fact about his healthcare feform, the next day it is proven to be untrue.

Obama is a class act. I wish all our politicians were like him. It's a shame the republicans are so blind and unwilling to even listen to him.

Its good to see that Obama finally showed up in the forum that fits his persona. Where no one takes him seriously and realizes the clown that he is. In fact, if he were a late night talk show host I'm sure more people would listen to his far fetched ideas as jokes and parody. Sadly, he really wants to institute some of his ideas of madness that would be a detriment to the American people.

It is so refreshing to see that our President is a human being. He makes us feel he is one of us, yet he can do everything he needs to do. I think that is what is so troubling for the republicans...he can be out here speaking to us and get his job done at the same time. They, the republicans, haven't had anyone smart enough to do it all. Keep up the good work President Obama, it is refreshing to hear someone with intelligence talk to us.

Someone called President Obama 'The Infomercial President, he can add that to his other well known title, 'The Abortion President'. He is
singularly the most devisive President that this country has ever known.
He is everyone's president, but he goes out of his way to trample on those who disagree with him. I had no idea that the President had so much power, until you see this man dismantling so many of the great
things about this country. He still has the approval of many, because they honestly believe that spreading the well around is their fundamental right. They believe the constitution was written by white men who were slave owners, so they do not respect it. This administration is raping the country, but not for long.

What a hectic schedule. Glad you could squeeze in Letterman. Loved your response about racism: " I was Black before the election". Class act our President.

The main thing I learned from all that exposure is that Obama has always been black –his words. Real important stuff!

President Obama did a good job on the Letterman show.
There was the proper mix of laughter and serious subjects.
You wonder how he can keep his cool with the diasters that
were handed to him, politicians behaving at the lowest level
ever and the continued struggles with the survival of our country,
We are so fortunate to have a man of intellect, honor and sincere
concern for us leading our country.

Those who like him would be happy to see him often, and those who don't, will claim he is over-exposed. Unfortunately, the President can't please everybody. Its the reality!

Since Obama is sucking so bad at the job of Commander in Chief and seems to be so charismatic to so many, perhaps he should hand over control of our country to someone that has an idea on how to dig us out of this mess and make an appearance on some reality TV series, like spending ourselves to oblivion...

I've been hearing rumors that the President hasn't been clear and forthcoming about his agenda on health care, Afghanistan, etc. Anyone who watched the Letterman show last night now knows those rumors are false. The President spelled out his agenda in a rim, detailed manner. Disagree with him if you like, but don't accuse him of hiding any of his legislative plans.

I like how this President as a BLACK-MAN in america throws caution to the wind and NOT play into the GODLESS Shelf Righteous PPL..( so there you GO- the political correct righteous PPL who REFUSE to give CREDIT without exception to a BLACKMAN in america).. this president said he was a blackman before he was president-NOT Bi-RACIAL)..I'm sure america reminded him daily growing up in america..as most black PPL are reminded daily in america. Why can't we ALL just be AMERICANS and respect the varies cultures? To late for that now with racism wrapped in the american flag for hundreths of years. You may not agree but it's true..no matter how you want to spin racism as not prevalent today in america, when I speak of racism, I'm not simply speaking in terms- whites against black and vice verse.. but racism across all races..

"I think that what's happened is that whenever a president tries to bring about significant changes, particularly during times of economic unease, then there is a certain segment of the population that gets very riled up," Obama said.

This one would be for those who preposterously are claiming that the President is a DIVIDER. Au contraire, mon ami.

Obama has a delightful sense of humor. Given the stress of the job and vicious attacks by political hacks, it is amazing he can rise above it all and be a human being about it. We are so lucky to have such a smart President who cares about solving the real problems.

From what I heard last night on television, Dave didn't say "Well you have" (goofed off over the summer). He said, "Well, others have." referring to George W. Bush being less than present and engaged during his time in office. It's been a running gag with Letterman for years.
