Franks aide clarifies 'enemy of humanity' comment

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="In a recent speech to conservative activists, Arizona Republican Rep. Trent Franks said President Obama was 'an enemy of humanity.'"]
WASHINGTON (CNN) - A spokeswoman for a Republican congressman who called President Obama "an enemy of humanity" said Tuesday that he should have clarified that he was talking about the president's policies on abortion.

Bethany Haley, a spokeswoman for Arizona Rep. Trent Franks, told CNN on Tuesday the congressman was actually referring to "unborn humanity" - a specific reference to the president's policies on abortion.

Franks used the term in a speech to conservative activists Saturday in St. Louis, pointing to Obama's decision to aid international family planning clinics that perform abortions.

"A president that has lost his way that badly, that has no ability to see the image of God in these little fellow human beings, if he can't do that right, then he has no place in any station of government and we need to realize that he is an enemy of humanity," Franks said.

Franks' speech was recorded by the liberal group People for the American Way.

In an interview with the Washington Independent after the speech, Franks also renewed a call for Obama to produce a copy of his birth certificate to end the questions by "birthers" who doubt the president's birthplace. Franks said he had once considered filing a lawsuit to get it, but did his own investigation and became convinced that the president was born in the United States.

Haley called the controversy a "silly debate" and said it is "ridiculous that the president doesn't just produce [the birth certificate] and make it go away." In the interview, Franks implied that the president might be trying to hide something else.

"Probably, Barack Obama could solve this problem and make the birthers, you know, back off, by simply showing us his long-form birth certificate," Franks said. "That'd solve the problem. There's some other issue, I don't know what it is, that he doesn't want people to see the birth certificate on."

The republicans are trying to issue a fatwah with deniability. How can they deny that there are hundreds if not thousands of knuckle-dragging racists in their "base" who are hearing a message to kill our president? This is sedition plain and simple.

I am so sick and tired of these people and their outrageous statements. None of these people are fit to serve and receive their income from us taxpayers.

Cut off funding to family planning clinics abroad, and wait until the child is actually born and commit infanticide.

No no one will make a big deal out of this cause "it is not the result of racism, but honest disagreement with policy" And pigs can fly. YOU LIE!

Our country is in deep trouble! We need to have a day of prayer for our President and ask that God protect him and give him the courage and wisdom to continue to do the right thing for our country. Any logical thinking person knows that it is going to take years to fix the mess that was left for President Obama. I commend him for the committment of taking on such a difficult task. For all of you who may disagree with his policies, that is fine, but for those of you who are wishing harm to come to him, be careful, God makes it plain in his word – What man meant for evil, God meant for good! God did not give us a spirt of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. In the worst of times, God sends his best! He is one of the hardest working POTUS I've seen in my life time and he can not be wrong about everything – what's going to happen when the change comes and this country is better for it – then what?

Enemy of Humanity... Good God, this man has done everything he can to put this country back on it's feet. This is more lies from the far right. It scares me for this country that this level of extremism is out there. For people this deluded, they can justify any action, killing Doctors, any action to them is justified.

Rep Franks and his staff deserve to be punished and censured and run out of town to get tarred and feathered.

George Bush caused harm against all humanity, but the Republicans hold him up as the messiah.

I am sick and tired of Republicans and the horrible things they are saying about Obama.

You lost in November to an African-American – get over it and get behind YOUR president.

I wish the occasional Republican would stuff a sock in it, and avoid any extreme remarks. It makes them looks as bad as Nancy Pelosi calling old and handicapped Americans UNAMERICAN, or Harry Reid calling them EVIL MONGERS, or former President Jimmy Carter calling them RACISTS! 9.7% UNEMPLOYMENT, $9 Trillion in additional debt, more corruption from the Chicago Way than we've seen in generations, while Obama is off on apologizing for the country and the U.N. and trying to get the Olympics for Chicago instead of trying to get people back to work. Republicans just need to shut up and let Obama be Obama!

When a public official supports and condones such a thing as abortion and misleads fellow citizens into a state of sin against God, then that public official must make a public renounciation or face an eternity that none of us wants.
Yes, public officials need to look at their own eternity and decide if this course of action is one that should be pursued. Of course, the devil walks the earth, searching for any soul he can get his hands on. It's up to the rest of us to try and lead as many souls to safety as possible. Starting with our public officials.
Democrat or Republican, it matters not. Eternity is forever.

Did I miss something? Did medical science suddenly prove when "life" begins? The whole argument seems to revolve around religious beliefs rather than science.

The man said what he said and meant it. If he didn't, then he's far too stupid to remain in office.

How amazingly UNPATRIOTIC the right has become. Never in history has a group of people shown less respect to the Presidency than the republicans do now.

    Shame on you!

"A president that has lost his way that badly, that has no ability to see the image of God in these little fellow human beings,..."

What about "little fellow citizens without healthcare? What about our infant mortality rate higher than Candada's, United Kingdom's and all most twice as high as Sweden's? Think Republicans would give two cents for our own, live born citizens as they do an unborn baby that has not had God breath the breath of life into it? Of course not. Abortion is just a way to keep the attention off the crooks running the parties. Republicans in this case.

Hearing comments like this, combined with what I hear on Bible Belt talk radio give me a whole new sense of appreciation for the Secret Service. They have their work cut out for them. I never heard of any congressperson talk about Bush like this.

Birthers....Don't you think the FBI and or Secret Service checked out the president's birth story when he was a candidate? Or were they in on it too?

Socialist fearmongers....Not one company has received government assistance that was not already receiving it on January 19th. The amont the government has in the banking industry has DECREASED since then.

The facts don't support your hysteria.

That nonsense about the crazy birthers "backing off" if only the president produced his long form birth certificate cracks me up. Those loons are unassuagable (for birthers, that means nothing will satisfy them).
They have already demanded his school records beginning at kindergarten, baptismal records, marriage license, records of the law firm that employed him in Chicago. They want EVERYTHING.

These fascist radicals are very reminiscent of Hitler's brown shirt thugs in Germany before WW2. Their religious, economic, and political views have metastasized into a toxic and lethal form of mental disease characterized by living in an alternate reality created by Fox News and right-wing lobbyists. One by one, they join the ranks of Timothy McVeigh, Buford Pusser, Lee Harvey Oswald, and Sirhan Sirhan, as they descend into a pit of madness, finding only death at the bottom.

Why is it that politicians make statements, only to recant them the following day by saying " I meant this; not that"? Are their
communicative skills that poor? Perhaps it is what they meant to say but when questioned by others, they lack the courage to say " yes, that is what I said and what I meant" Instead they show their weak backbone.

When will this ever stop. Where was the concern for human life when our last President lied about WMD and innocent people died.
Why is it okay for the government to tell women what is okay for their own bodies but it is not okay for the government to offer health care. Seems like a double standard.
