Chicago eliminated from hosting 2016 Olympics

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (CNN) - Chicago, Illinois, has been eliminated from hosting the 2016 Olympics, the International Olympic Committee announced Friday.

The vote came just hours after President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, delivered a personal pleas to the Olympic committee praising the virtues of his adopted home city.

While Obama has worked to reduce the resentment the rest of the world has about the ego of America, apparently his inflated ago was more than they anyone could handle. The rest of the world is hoping that America returns to its leadership position in the world.

We as taxpayers need to insist that the Chicago Olympic Committee repay the Federal Govt. for the cost of sending the President and other Govt. officials to Copenhagen on non-Govt. business. What a sham a waste of money.

In the long run this is a good thing because we could not afford to foot the bill for the Olympics, not in these times.

It was ridiculous for the president to go and do this. There are more pressing items than Chicago getting the olympics. People are actually pissed that we didn't get this. Are we THAT arrogant in the U.S.?

What's silly is the capatalist-loving GOP failed to see the revenue and economic climate the Games bring with them to any country, which city and state revanues from Georgia after the Atlanta games could tell you it would only have helped the economy.

But by all means continue to oppose everything like an angry teenager.

    Wow, now that is funny.

The people of Chicago came out on the good side of this one.

The Olympic games leave a trail of debt unless managed properly, and Chicago politicians won't have their hands in the money bag too screw it up.

    Thanks IOC.

Sorry Chicago. It would have meant lots of jobs and revenue, but even your own citizens lobbied against it.

Maybe it's time for the decent folks to leave and just let that city go to the shooters. Maybe Dick Cheney could move there.

Now, Mr. Obama can get back to work.. Hey, I have an idea, maybe he could work on some of those campaign promises that got him elected. Or maybe he could go to Chicago and help put a stop to these sensless beatings.

Just great...the US unemployment rate goes us to 9.8% (yes, that same unemployment rate that President Obama said would never go over 8% if the stimulus package was passed), Iran is putting us on the brink of a World War, the US is about to pass a health care bill that will cripple the economy even more and where is our President? He and his wife (who cnn called the star of Copenhagen) are leading a failed effort to get the Olympics to Chicago, something that could have led to security and economic risks that we can not sustain right now. And where is cnn on this, posting what seems like the 50th article on Sarah Palin in the past month, someone who doesn't even deserve 1 article. This is shameful.

The president's advisers fail to recognize sentiments of American hegemony around the world.

Trust me, those voting against Chicago are activists and don't want to be viewed as bowing before America. Anyway, US is bigger and greater than backdoor politics.

Well, at least they all had a great time partying in Copenhagen.....
Now, could we please see a little attention to the more pressing issues on his to-do list?

As a person who lives in Cook County, I'm thrilled we are out!

Living here all my life, I know first hand of ALL the corruption in this county. Gee, your taxes won't go up, nah. All that EXTRA traffic would have been a nightmare.

As Stroger makes us the record breaking sales tax rip off artists of the planet.
    Now, I'm hearing they spent 10 million on the bid alone! Great. Cook County is broke and hasn't even sent out the tax bills because they can't afford the postage. {?}

This really has nothing to do with Obama. But I am wondering just how "professional" the Chicago bid really was in relation to the other cities.

My point is that this administration is full of amateurs. And I'm sure a bunch of amateurs did the Chicago bid.

Notice Chicago was the first to be eliminated.

What a waste of time and money.

Kinda stinks when an ex-Head of the committe gives a speech saying he wants Madrid to get the Olympics because he is 89 and has many friends on the committe. I live in Chicago and I'm waiting for the conservative nutjobs who ranted when ourr president went over there will now blast him as not being influential etc. The truth is that the recent beating death of a honors student on film for all to see probably killed it. Oh that and the Italian leader says Barack and Michelle are 'tan'. I guess the US isn't the only place with redneck racist freaks. I'm sure Fox News is very happy our country lost.

What he and Michele couldnt pull the wool over the olympic voters like they did to US voters. Booo Hoooo. Who wants to go to Chicagoland and be mugged while watching sports. The media was all swooning over Michelle and her emotional plea. Seems like it hurt rather than helped.
