Chicago eliminated from hosting 2016 Olympics

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (CNN) - Chicago, Illinois, has been eliminated from hosting the 2016 Olympics, the International Olympic Committee announced Friday.

The vote came just hours after President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, delivered a personal pleas to the Olympic committee praising the virtues of his adopted home city.

how much taxpayer money did the President's trip cost?

Maybe all the corruption and violence in Chicago and Chicago politics played a role.

The Chicago democrat party machine rivals NJ for corruption.

Give Rio a shot this time. With all the "bad press" Chicago area teens have created lately, who would be stupid enough to go there for such a large event?

This may sadden some...but it really is better for our country right now. We have a budget to balance; people to put back in the work force; and give medical care for families (ok , not give, charge for ). More importantly, we should be striving to get this country eco independent in all aspects....that should be top priority right now because everything else really ties into it.

Good! Now Obama can hopefully put his focus on the toughest issues facing this nation.

I only hope that Obama's efforts in imposing socialised medicine on the US are just as successful as his efforts in imposing the Olympics on Chicago.

Did any body in their wildest dreams believe that they would give the olympics to the United States. Heck no...the whole world is still so jealous of this country they want to see it disengrate and bush almost made it happen...Obama is on the way to bringing us back. AND WE DON'T NEED THE DARN OLYMPICS TO DO THAT.

Show the world we are still the country of hope, and we will still be the place everyone wants to come.

Amazing that the International Olympic Committee wasn't swayed over by that inspirational speech reliving the magical November evening in 2008 when America became good and wonderful in it's historic election results...

I'm an American from the midwest. I am relieved that the Olympics will not be held in Chicago. Although it might have been nice to take in a few of the events, I don't feel Chicago represents the US well. It is wrought with crime with the fleeing people from projects bringing their ill favors to other towns and cities in the midwest. Their "culture" is not welcome. I know there's more to the projects in Chicago, but the city just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I also think it was good for the Obamas NOT to get what they wanted for once. A little humility, you know?

need to be trusted with the small things before you can be trusted with the big things.

treating allies with little to no respect and treating historical enemies as friends .... doesn't lead others to trust your judgment or your motives.

I guess people were listening when Obama was travelling around the world apologizing for the U.S. and telling everyone how bad we were.

Surprised Chicago was elimated? Hmmm. Does anyone think the IOC is collectively blind to the insanity that was America throughout August? They vote in the moment. Our current moment is a vivid disgrace.

The President and First Lady both delivered very humbling speeches. I guess the Olympic commission wants this to be the first event held in South America.

Another wasted tax payers trip for our President and First Lady.

It's easy to go anywhere you want when you don't have to pay for it.

Mrs. Obama really stole the show again thanks for spending our money at your fun.

Wow! With all the negative attention that FOX News launched against Chicago with the world watching! No wonder! Do these guys really love America? Or GOP politics trump common sense?

Too bad, New York had a shot in 2012 and Chicago had a shot this time. Hopefully the summer games will come to the states in 2020

The Olympis are one of,if not the only, international events still in existance(other than war). Rio , and South America has never hosted the event. Stop the politics and think outside of yourself.
