Chicago eliminated from hosting 2016 Olympics

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (CNN) - Chicago, Illinois, has been eliminated from hosting the 2016 Olympics, the International Olympic Committee announced Friday.

The vote came just hours after President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, delivered a personal pleas to the Olympic committee praising the virtues of his adopted home city.

For all of you uninformed critics of the trip, the President had also met with one of his top generals while in Cophenhagen.

This prevously wasn't released until now. You're so quick and wanting so much to criticize everything the President does, that you're blinded by your own self importance on thinking you know everything.

Guess what, the military and the government doesn't tell you everything and often releases information after the fact. You know, safety of the President and all that unimportant wasteful stuff.

Good god. You Neo-Cons need to get over yourselves. You want the president to fail so badly you are rejoicing in this?

It's the OLYMPICS. NOT a political event...this is something that we all should have been rooting for...what is wrong with you people? Really, I want to know!

Way to go, some of you Americans! Show the world what poor losers we are! This is the Olympics. Be gracious in defeat. Congratulations to the winner!

Good grief, folks. Cities win the Olympics, others lose. And the ones that won wind up losing anyway – sometimes. No one's fault. It's the way it is. Maybe the Olympic selection committee needs some looking into. Remember when the mayor of Montreal said that losing money on the Olympics had as much chance as him getting pregnant? Well, he died with the city still in debt and without a baby, but the cartoonists had a field day with that one.

You conservatives are so dense... The Olympics will bring in so much revenue and needed jobs. Only a dumb, ignorant fool would say that you don't want to host the olympics.

Tis just shows how closed minded conservatives are and why we see ourselves in the mess we're in today. Thank you so much for that! I tell you it's silly season.

Now Chicago can avoid the economic losses incurred from hosting the Olympics. This is why Denver doesn't want to host a Winter Olympics despite having good facilities. It is also good Obama will not have to repay any favors for getting the Olympics. It is not worth all the economic losses just for politicians to have a feather in their cap.
It is past time for Obama to focus on the real problems facing America such as reducing federal spending.

It is probably a good thing Chicago didn't get it. Nowadays, the Olympics is actually a net loss in $. And no doubt the corrupt Chicago machine would find some way to steal, mess up, or make poor decisions with taxpayers $.

The President really should have never gotten involved.

This is not exactly a surprise. While Chicago is a fantastic city with lots of great sports venues, beautiful lakefront, many tourist attractions and tons of character, unfortunately right now it is has a cloud hanging over it and that is the horrible crime rate. CNN covers all of the student shootings, statistics and latest deaths constantly so this gets international coverage too. The terrible beating death of the young boy this week just added to the negative publicity. Pres. and Mrs. Obama did an admirable job of pitching the city but it probably didn't have a chance. An ex-Olympic president is from Spain and South America has never hosted the games so either Madrid or Rio had an edge from the beginning. The US gave a good case for Chicago and maybe in a few years it will be able to actually win the games.

At least they tried, and by the way it is not a popularity contest. Spain's Barcelona had a shot at it some years ago, could Rio be the top choice.

How sad it is to read the comments by so called Americans who are just so besides themselves with glee that the United States of America lost out on the chance to host the Olympics. The comments are all about President Obama and just another chance to vilify him, his wife and the country. Forget the economic benefits this could have had for our country whils they complain about the unemployment rate going up. Of course the haters don't seem to see how they are being un- American and unpatriotic, this just gives them more energy to go after the President. And, the next thing they will say is how President Obama is dividing the country. What a sad day for America, not because they lost the bid for the Olympics but because Obama haters see this as another feather in their hatred cap.

There is something very synonymous here. Obama from Chicago...Chicago losing the bid to host the 2016 Olympics...Obama = Chicago and Chicago = Obama. Maybe if you can read the undercurrent here. Obama's disappointment of not getting Chicago to be host of the 2016 Olympics is just a prelude to Obama not getting alot of what he wants....politically or internationally.

Is it a weird similarity/synchronicity or a bad omen, I wonder.

It's funny how crowds gathered in Rio awaiting the results to see if they will get to host the olympics and here in America people want to see the President fail at everything he does. But this is not a failure on the part of the President, this is a failure on the part of America to think that we deserve such an honor.

  16. What?

Sooo, the hundreds of thousands it cost to drag him and his wife to Copenhagen didn't pay off. Can we say... vacation neatly wrapped up in a bow. Please get back to America and fix something already. Or atleast see something to completion. Auto industry still falling apart. (Saturn) banking still a mes. (BofA) Enemployment higher than ever. Recession... pfffft this is depression.

Not America, just Obama...lol. Let me show you the equation.

When Obama fails = America becomes a better nation.

With all the hate and disdain for one another in this country, why should we be honored with Olympics of such magnitude. People of other nationalities are probably afraid to attend the Olympics in the U.S. Good try Mr. President, but we would rather cut off our noses to spite our faces here. Congrats Rio!

I see the leaders of all four finalist host countries attended the IOC meeting: Brazil, Japan, Spain and USA. Pres. Obama is a charismatic leader who can represent, better than anyone else, the USA to the world. I give him credit for doing his best, for not quitting, and for having the courage to fight for what he believes. One does not win every game in sports, but one does his best regardless of the outcome!

The Ego has landed! Obama and his wife continue to weaken this country by forgetting everything that makes us great.

Real unemployment is 17%! Now we are trillions in debt to Chinese, losing in Afganistan, 97 public school kids killed in Chicago, Banks and companies are nationlized. Could this president be doing worse?????

Chicago/Cook County is far too corrupt and crime ridden to hold The Olympics. After the bribery scandal and corruption at the Salt Lake games, and the Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta in 1996, I seriously doubt that the we will ever see Olympic games in this country again.

P.S. I also think Obama's huge head trip is coming to an end as he realizes he is not the "Jesus Christ Superstar" that he (and his minions) believed he was.

Viglia, Where have you been, fool. Your comment is rediculous and without merit. Basically no city who hosted the Olympics has turned a profit. Yes, it puts people to work for a short period but then when th eOlympics leave town , the town is left with millions in debt. You have no right acting as you did.

Mr. President use all of my tax dollars you need to get this country running.

It amaze me to see all of these so called educated idiots who think you were suppose to come into office and run a country off of nothing.

He has accomplished more in 9 months then Bush has in 8 years.

The problem is congress never had to work so hard. Get over it and put a sock in it already!!
