Newt and the rest of the republican idealogues have long lost any credibility with anyone who even is somewhat rational. To his base however, every word that he or the other nutjobs utter is gospel. I'm betting that the vast majority of citizens don't fall in the latter category. The next elections will be telling. Hopefully sanity trumps bigotry, ignorance and outright stupidity.

I don't think President Obama had much to do with this decision. He just went to support his hometown in this effort. Just because Rio got the games doesn't mean Obama did the wrong thing or failed in any way. Rio was the favorite no matter who was there plugging for Chicago. When all is said and done this has more to do with Chicago than Obama.

We probably lost our bid because of the the choas and turmolt our politicians have created. Washington D.C. politicians, Fox news, town hall meetings, Joe Wilson's calling our President a liar, the Republicans rediculous behavior in August and a host of other things just made our country look undesirable. Yes, Newt Gingrich, your party does need to focus on important issues and quit behaving like silly terrible twos.

Oh, former President Clinton was Very Focused – Leaving the country with a multi-billion $$ Surplus while at the same time the markets and the economy were flourishing.
Seems to me, Mr. Gingrich – YOU ARE THE FOOL THAT WASN'T FOCUSED spending all your time at "We the People's" expense trying to make a mockery out of former President Clinton and the Monica Lewinsky scandal which, oh, by the way – HAD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO with the state of our economy at that time !!

Where was this criticism when George Bush campaigned for the Opympics? Unemployment at 9.8%....a result of the Bush administration failure to "jumpstart the economy" by sending all of us a check for $600. Where was your criticism over that? You are a biased fraud.
What about Mr. Obama's choice of Water Spaniel for a pet? Maybe Newt should have included that major Republican talking point again.
Do you ever have anything positive to say about our President of theUSA? What has happened to our ethis, morals and standing behind our leaders. Did President Obama create this mess that our country is in ? I believe not! It has taken years of all and both parties. Maybe you and your followers would be better off to start supporting our President instead of running him down every chance you get. Gingrich is a washed-up divisive neocon. If President Obama had NOT lobbied the IOC and America lost the 2016 Olympic bid, the Republicans would be whining that Obama should have done more.
South America has never hosted the Olympics and it was expected that Rio would win it. Other world leaders appeared in Copenhagen to support their own countries and Obama did the same.
It's about time the Republicans figured out how to be productive members of society. Talk about living on the dole!

Bill Clinton was at the right place at the right time, and was savvy enough to sign nearly every smart bill the congress sent him. The result: the prosperity that WAS the 1990s.
If Obama can get over himself, and work with the pending conservative congress in 2010 (because it IS coming), maybe he can claim credit for the wave of prosperity that will result like Bill Clinton did.
Or he can imitate Jimmy Carter, which it appears he is more interested in doing.
