@newtgingrich Somehow charm and oratory dont seem to work in foreign affirs but historians have warned that foreign policy is different than campaigning

@newtgingrich President Eisenhower had a rule that Presidents of the United States went to the meetings after success had been assured

@newtgingrich President Obama fails to get the Olympics while unemployment goes to 9.8% Iran continues nuclear program. America needs focused leadership

My family taught me that there was never any shame in trying. That the real shame comes in not making the attempt.

Perhaps in your world, success must be guaranteed in order for you to come down from your grandiose delusions, but that's not the American way.

Keep running your mouth Mr. Gingrich. Everytime you, or Glenn Beck, or Sarah Palin come up with another "Pearl of wisdom" from the far far right... another intelligent person leaves the Republican party.

I got a real lift just looking at a photo of the massive crowd in Rio cheering for their country. What a wonderful sight – people of ALL COLORS rubbing shoulders and celebrating in one voice. Viva Brasil!!

Newt and Twitter. A perfect medium for the twit.

Charm and Oratory? How about hard negotiations nad salesmanship? I new Newt was shallow, but really.

President Eisenhower as role model? The do nothing figurehead President of all time? Get real.

It's Bush resession unemployment rate growth SLOWING to JUST 9.8% and Iran has been brought to the negotiating table across from a united international community.

Newt is an vicious idiot twit.

Newt and the rest of the republican idealogues have long lost any credibility with anyone who even is somewhat rational. To his base however, every word that he or the other nutjobs utter is gospel. I'm betting that the vast majority of citizens don't fall in the latter category. The next elections will be telling. Hopefully sanity trumps bigotry, ignorance and outright stupidity.

"focused leadership" coming from Newt...hilarious irony. You mean such as sending invitations to strip clubs and adult entertainment execs as Newt's conservative entrepreneur of the year?! LOL

    Real "focused" Newt...

I don't think President Obama had much to do with this decision. He just went to support his hometown in this effort. Just because Rio got the games doesn't mean Obama did the wrong thing or failed in any way. Rio was the favorite no matter who was there plugging for Chicago. When all is said and done this has more to do with Chicago than Obama.

Go away, Newt. You have enough holes in your character that your image can never be repaired. We Republicans don't need you. Please shut up and let us be Republicans. Go write another book and vacation somewhere. Take a 20-year-old secretary with you, if you can find one, just get out.

You make all Republicans look bad.

We probably lost our bid because of the the choas and turmolt our politicians have created. Washington D.C. politicians, Fox news, town hall meetings, Joe Wilson's calling our President a liar, the Republicans rediculous behavior in August and a host of other things just made our country look undesirable. Yes, Newt Gingrich, your party does need to focus on important issues and quit behaving like silly terrible twos.

Newt Gingrich – You are a COMPLETE MORON and IDIOT !! With regards to your last remark, "President Obama fails to get the Olympics while unemployment goes to 9.8% Iran continues nuclear program. America needs focused leadership," are you saying George W. Bush was focused as a leader ?? GIVE ME A BREAK !! And also, what about former President Bill Clinton ?? Oh, former President Clinton was Very Focused – Leaving the country with a multi-billion $$ Surplus while at the same time the markets and the economy were flourishing.

Seems to me, Mr. Gingrich – YOU ARE THE FOOL THAT WASN'T FOCUSED spending all your time at "We the People's" expense trying to make a mockery out of former President Clinton and the Monica Lewinsky scandal which, oh, by the way – HAD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO with the state of our economy at that time !!

Newt Gingrich – Why don't you, Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh take a cruise to the Persian Gulf and maybe Iran can test fire one of their Shabab missiles on your boat... You, Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh are what is TRULY WRONG WITH THIS GREAT COUNTRY OF OURS !!

Gingrich lost credibility when he deserted one of his wives on her death bed. This red neck needs to sit down and shut up. Had a Republican made the same attempt, these Republicans (i.e. hate mongers) would not be opening their big mouth.

AMERICA, PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN!.... Gingrich, I'll take President Obama's charm and oratory (and good character) over your theft and chicanery any day! Chicago is the President's home town. If he didn't speak out on behalf of his home town you would have criticized him for not being patriotic enough. We lost, get over it. If you can't stand to get beat by a stiff competitor then you have no business in politics or foreign affairs....which might explain your "success" in politics.

who put us here ... you fool ... your party is 100% responsible ... no oversight on banking as you all got rich ... and now it is Obama's fault ... you are no patriot, in fact you are traitors to the people of this country

Where was this criticism when George Bush campaigned for the Opympics? Unemployment at 9.8%....a result of the Bush administration failure to "jumpstart the economy" by sending all of us a check for $600. Where was your criticism over that? You are a biased fraud.

What about Mr. Obama's choice of Water Spaniel for a pet? Maybe Newt should have included that major Republican talking point again.

Do you ever have anything positive to say about our President of theUSA? What has happened to our ethis, morals and standing behind our leaders. Did President Obama create this mess that our country is in ? I believe not! It has taken years of all and both parties. Maybe you and your followers would be better off to start supporting our President instead of running him down every chance you get. I feel that the average individual in our Country is getting tired of all your complaining. Does nothing make you happy.

It has happened, a little sooner than we expected. That neutered Newt has finally come forward and taken a cheap shot at BHO. We opine he hould be sent on an exile to Timbaktu.

Gingrich is a washed-up divisive neocon. If President Obama had NOT lobbied the IOC and America lost the 2016 Olympic bid, the Republicans would be whining that Obama should have done more.

South America has never hosted the Olympics and it was expected that Rio would win it. Other world leaders appeared in Copenhagen to support their own countries and Obama did the same.

It's about time the Republicans figured out how to be productive members of society. Talk about living on the dole!

Did you enjoy the prosperity of the 1990s?
You can thank Newt Gingrich and the Contract with America.

Bill Clinton was at the right place at the right time, and was savvy enough to sign nearly every smart bill the congress sent him. The result: the prosperity that WAS the 1990s.

If Obama can get over himself, and work with the pending conservative congress in 2010 (because it IS coming), maybe he can claim credit for the wave of prosperity that will result like Bill Clinton did.

Or he can imitate Jimmy Carter, which it appears he is more interested in doing.
