Letterman invokes Palin in apology

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/10/06/art.letterman.gi.jpg caption="Leterman is issuing another apology to Sarah Palin."]

(CNN) - As long as David Letterman is apologizing after revelations he had sexual relations with members of his staff, why not throw an extra one in to former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin?

The embattled late night comedian wrapped up his lengthy apology to his staff and family Monday night with a light-hearted reference to the public spat he and Palin had three months ago over an inappropriate joke.

"Through all of this, you have to ask yourself what really happened. And what really happened was you can't be victimized by criminals. So you have to go ahead and push back if you're being pushed by something illegal like this," Letterman told his audience Monday.

"And through all of the heartache, and the attention, and the embarrassment, I still feel like I did the right thing, and now also, because what can it hurt, once again I'd like to apologize to the former Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin. I'm terribly, terribly sorry. So there we go," he added to cheers from the crowd.

Letterman joked in June that Palin's "daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez" at a recent Yankees game, but later insisted he was referring to Palin's 18-year-old, Bristol, who gave birth to a boy in December, and not the 14-year-old Willow who actually attended the game.

Palin, John McCain's running mate in last year's presidential election, called the joke "inappropriate" and "sexually perverted," and a Palin spokeswoman said it would be wise to "keep Willow away from David Letterman."

I'm tired of this "news" story already. If the comics want to make fun of yet another man who must chase women, people can turn on those television shows. And certainly after all of the distorted comments Palin is now famous for, it would seem one apology to that woman probably is one too many. Could we please move on now?

What a jerk he wants it both ways as always. You slame everyone else for doing the same thing and when you get caught with your pants dow oh I'm sorry and all is forgiven. Women wake he has no respect for any of you and yet most people think it's funny.

What a sad country we live in.

Palin can take hold of the left 'nad, and his wife can grab the right, and they can see who can pull harder.

As long as this is the news of the day, the world must be either about to collapse and there's nothing anyone could do anyway, or the world is at relative peace and all is well.

    Peace this time around, please?

I think he really meant it and did the right thing. Just because the popular liberal media doesn't like Sarah Palin and thinks that she wasn't ready to be VP does not mean we should attack her family, especially her 15 year old daughter. Sarah is a good person and will more experience, I do think someday she may be ready to be VP, just not quite yet.

Again, Letterman shows the world he's sensitive, a gentleman, and a brilliant comic. His apology was sincere and he was very humble and contrite. And he wisely took another shot at Sarah Palin – after all, he is still a comedian and Palin is still an insignificant loudmouth.

At least Letterman made a sincere apology. End of story. Palin never apologized for lying to the American people about non-existent "death panels".

He's not the only victim – his wife, his son, other staffers who may have been pressured to sleep with him, the women and their families who slept with him are all victims of his poor judgment.

I knew for so long that there was a reason Letterman just rubbed me the wrong way. I just could not put my finger on it. Well, with all the revelations about his affairs, and the comment he made about Palin's daughter, it has become clear.

The guy is simply a dirt bag!!!!! In spite of his pretentious sophistication and arrogance, he amounts to nothing more than being a lowbrow dope.

It is unfortunate that someone with such a great sense of humor tends so often to be in the gutter.
