White House: Fox is 'opinion journalism masquerading as news'

(CNN) - The Obama White House is ramping up its offensive against Fox News.

This summer, President Obama signaled his unhappiness with the network. "We've got one television station entirely devoted to attacking my administration."

Over the past month, that discontent has translated into an all-out war against Fox. Last month, Obama notably skipped a sitdown with Fox as he plugged his health care bill in one-on-one interviews on every other major news network. Earlier this month, the White House published a rare blog post directly attacking a news organization, slamming Fox for its "disregard for the facts" and pointing readers to an independent fact-checking organization that had debunked "more Fox lies."

Now, White House Communications Director Anita Dunn is questioning whether Fox is in the news business at all. "It's opinion journalism masquerading as news," she told Time of the news network, in an interview released Thursday. Dunn also made it clear this won't be the last White House blast aimed at the network: "They are boosting their audience. But that doesn't mean we are going to sit back."

Their NEWS portion is NEWS and fair and balanced. Their Opinion portion (Beck, O'Reilly, Hannity, Greta...is OPINION)
Networks pretend to be fair while reporting the news, but are Obama sheep!!
Obama worry about a war we are losing instead of people who dare to disagree with you. You are such a disappoinment. .

Faux News is the official media outlet for the GOP. No news there. But it does show that the GOP is lost and can't find its way to become relevant and thus has reverted to allowing Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh to call the shots. There is no leadership within the GOP that can stand up and present its case.

100% agree. I can't believe some Fox personalities can say 'Fair and Balanced' with a straight face.

So its okay to have MSNBC blast Bush for 8 years, with the most disgraceful talk. It is okay for the MSM not to do any vetting ?But lets not mention that.!!! What goes around comes around. And if you don't like it switch to one of the other 10 stations that are Obama loving, liberal talk shows.

This Whitehouse is just unbelievable! Fox is the only station left that still does any true news reporting at all! When there are Fox misrepresentations found it is generally the "little thing" wrong spelling...nothing that really matters in the true sense of the story. The other networks on the other hand do not even try to cover any true news and have nothing but panels of "opinionators"

Talk about a whiner....He has 6 or 7 networks that do nothing but dote over him, lie to help move his agenda forward and brainwash the weak minded.....Fox is the only network that even comes close to being balanced and factual....typical liberal approach. If a conservative doesn't like a TV channel, they will switch the channel. If a liberal doesn't like a TV channel, they want it shut down.....what a load!!

Instead of pissing and moaning about unfair treatment, why doesn't the President "man up" and include them in his entourage when he's fluttering out and about on all the other networks. It seems to me, he's hurting himself more than helping, by alienating a large amount of viewers. The President may even gain some supporters by doing so.

The ignorant do not understand Glenn Beck is not a news show! It's a commentary show. When you see Fox News Live, or the updates...those are supposed to be unbiased...commentary shows aren't! Are we this dumb in America that we don't understand that?
Couric, Williams, and Gibson are complete liberals hosting a "news" show. That's tainted journalism. Or when MSNBC covers debates with Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann....difference is no one watches that.

Fox is no more than a "gossip magazine" and we all know gossip is spirited by lies.

Can the White House stop the whining and start creating jobs and focus on the economy?

MSNBC – far-left nutjobs who are cheerleaders for Obama.
CNN – Palin "slam" "slam" artists who drudge up "stories" only.
    ABC – a joke
NBC – a joke (see MSNBC above)

There is no doubt that FOX, to a very large extent, is extremely biased and playing to the ultra-conservative audience. There also is that element at MSNBC that likewise takes a biased stance, only favoring the more liberal view. In both cases, what is lost is objectivity and rational reporting. What they seem interested in is boosting their numbers with biased loyalty and controversy. Not a lot of value in that for the public as a whole.

So are CNN, MSNBC, CNBC and all the other cable news channels. The only difference is their opinions match his, so they're okay by him. He doesn't seem to handle dissent well.

The White House is so paranoid and egotistical that they can't take it when someone questions them. The facts are the facts and we are once again talking about Fox which only increases the ratings.
I can't beleive that an Administration is so bothered by one cable news station. Wow they are so sensitive.

The President shouldn't even worry about Fox News....When their propaganda White Bread 'news' is over, have you ever noticed what comes on next in their program lineup? It's reality shows filled with oversexed idiots who probably also voted for the 108 yr old man and the unread racist slack jaw queen.

Don't waste your time. Everybody know that Fox unthinkingly parrots the Republican line. Let Fox be ... given enough rope, it will hang itself and strangle the life out of the Republican party. Sad for a pro-lifer to say it but Fox and the Republican party are a disgrace ... much like Canada's plummeting Liberal Party.

While there is little doubt that Fox News is biased in their reporting, Obama's attack on Fox News could backfire.

That said, the other major news media are no better – they just slant the news in a different direction.

Fox is in the money making business! Whatever nonsense their viewers want to hear is what they will present.

As much as Fox makes me want to hurl, the white house is only helping Fox's agenda by attacking it. They think they are the great patriots of our time.

I watch it every day(I can't help myself, I love a good train wreck) and yes, it is bogus. None of the "anchors" merely report the news, they always add their own theories and beliefs to it. I've come to view the whole organization as basically a network of commentators. They consistently leave out half of the story, and exaggerate, and take personal opinions and transform it into news.

But the poll numbers and elections are the battleground. THAT is the only way to prove them wrong.
