White House: Fox is 'opinion journalism masquerading as news'

(CNN) - The Obama White House is ramping up its offensive against Fox News.

This summer, President Obama signaled his unhappiness with the network. "We've got one television station entirely devoted to attacking my administration."

Over the past month, that discontent has translated into an all-out war against Fox. Last month, Obama notably skipped a sitdown with Fox as he plugged his health care bill in one-on-one interviews on every other major news network. Earlier this month, the White House published a rare blog post directly attacking a news organization, slamming Fox for its "disregard for the facts" and pointing readers to an independent fact-checking organization that had debunked "more Fox lies."

Now, White House Communications Director Anita Dunn is questioning whether Fox is in the news business at all. "It's opinion journalism masquerading as news," she told Time of the news network, in an interview released Thursday. Dunn also made it clear this won't be the last White House blast aimed at the network: "They are boosting their audience. But that doesn't mean we are going to sit back."

Really Fox News is a mix of straight news and also opinions. They give a lot of air time to Democrat members of Congress who of course express opinions as do the Republican members of congress. They also have some liberal or Democrats commentators, but do have more conservative or Republican ones. All give opinions. None of their shows are hosted by liberals, all are conservatives, but all have liberal guests who speak their mind. Not all the points of view on Fox are conservative. But more are than are not. It is the only place to get much of anything from a conservative point of view, outside of Lou Dobbs who is also not liked by the whitehouse, go figure.
My guess is Obama can't stand Fox playing all that video of himself and his radical czars and associates talking openly about thrir radical points of views. The video footage of Van Jones was far more radical than just his calling Repubicans a bad name and his truther beliefs. The video is not lies, it is Obama and friends speaking on camara in their own words, or words taken directly from books that they have written. Not lies but truth Obama wants hidden.

The WH is scared because they are reporting the truth, not like the garbage on CNN and others....

Come on, all you guys, you can be independent thinkers without being democrat or republican – try it.

RIGHT! Faux News IS opinion-based (biased) 'journalism'.

Faux News is the Republican propaganda network. They get talking points from the GOP and used to from the Bush Regime!

What's really amazing is that people actually watch that network.

Ignorance is bliss among the conservatives.

It should be noted that freedom of speech in our country is alive and well, not being trampeled. Foxnews has openly likened Obama to the bloodiest dictators of history, accused him of planned murder ('death pannels') as well as lying, and all sorts of horrible crimes. All in the name of free speech. The White House's reaction 'oh, they're just spouting opinions' is a very light reaction to such horrendous accusations. Curious that Foxnews is feeling upset for getting any reaction out of the WH. Foxnews was so offended when liberals were calling Bush Jr. names just last year! So why surprised that somebody finally responds to your name calling? Free speech goes both ways! The White House can also tell us their opinion about the news media. For years Dick Cheney has called all of the 'liberal' media traitors who encourage our enemies. That was freedom of speech too!

They just can't take it when someone lays it on the line. Go FOX!!! Finally a News Channel that actually tells the truth and exposes the corruption in the WH. Wouldn't they just love it if all the networks got warm tingly feelings when BHO walks into a room? Sorry... Ain't Happening!!!

Good heavens. You'd think Obama had taken Rupert Murdoch hostage, given the outcry I'm seeing.

Everybody relax, the free press and free exchange of ideas have never been stronger than they are today, what with the internet and all. And try as I might, I can't get my tinfoil hat on tight enough to glean "ZOMG OBUMMERS TRYNG 2 KILL FOXNWZ!" from the White House's comments.

We have the right to a free press, and we have a responsibility to hold that press to rigorous standards of integrity. If FOX out-and-out lies ("Where were they?" newspaper ad, anybody?), we need to call them on it.

FOX News proponents don't rail against the accuracay of their competitors' reporting, but more on what they choose to emphasize. CNN and MSNBC, however, rail against FOX's out-and-out lies and distortions. So in a debate meet, CNN calls out FOX's misleading and false statements, while FOX brings attention to CNN's mismatched suit and tie.

Seriously, from an objective perspective, any "news" station that would throw Beck in front of people shows that (a) they have no concern for factual, rational reporting and (b) only care about cornering the wingnut market...everyone knows that the crazier you are and the lonier you behave behave, the more those people watch.

  9. fox hate the president

What is the real reason Fox hate the presidet? surely it's not because he won the Presidential Race, because Sean Hannity hated him from day 1, saying he's not his President. and all these critics saying the white house shouldn't stop free speech, that's the problem their speech was to free. I hope the white house kick them where it hurts.

  10. Limbaugh is a liberal

Question to all of you: how would YOU respond if somebody repeatedly likened you to Hitler? Don't you have the right too to respond to months of insults and name calling?

    OBUMMER's tele-prompter speeches aren't working any more.

Well of course Fox media is an enteratinment outlet that has nothing to do with the facts. It's called the "dumbing down" of America. The tea-baggers, birthers, Becklers, & fascist klans love to watch the dribble & drama with plenty of cleavage mixed in to keep their primitive smooth brains pulling oxygen.
The Fox minions didn't even know there were no weapons of mass distruction for years after the rest of US and the world understood that fact. They don't understand climate change, they see diplomacy as a weakness, think bullies are strong, the French are weak, and basically are afraid of their own shadow because of the Fox media zombies feeding them right wing talking points, any brain cells left are blasted to oblivion by hate radio. Just like every other fascist regime has done throughout the history of civilization they keep their followers uneducated and afraid.

I am no fan of Obama but FOX is a real bad new channel.
The opinions of Hannity, Beck and O'Reilly are disgusting.

I hate news casters who have all the negativity for one party and have all praise for another party. This includes Olberman as well.

Fox is as much of a cartoon as the Cartoon Channel. Beck is becoming the Bart Simpson of the media and O'Reilly is Homer. "Doh!"

Wow the pot calling the kettle black that is just so funny.

The Obama administration is just upset because Fox is reporting more of the truth then him or any other media source out there.

People armed with the facts are a dangerous thing to the Obama administration and that is why they are after Fox.

I like to know why Obama is so worried about Fox? Could it be the only one media source that he does not have in his pocket so that is why he hates them.
