(CNN) - A Democratic National Committee spokesman said Friday the GOP has "thrown in its lot with the terrorists" in criticizing the president's Nobel Peace Prize award.

“The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists – the Taliban and Hamas this morning – in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize," DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse said in a statement.

"Republicans cheered when America failed to land the Olympics and now they are criticizing the President of the United States for receiving the Nobel Peace prize – an award he did not seek but that is nonetheless an honor in which every American can take great pride – unless of course you are the Republican Party," the statement also said. "The 2009 version of the Republican Party has no boundaries, has no shame and has proved that they will put politics above patriotism at every turn. It's no wonder only 20 percent of Americans admit to being Republicans anymore – it's an embarrassing label to claim.”

I couldn't agree more. The Republican party in this country has suddenly become determined to see this country fail.

Finally some TRUTH! The Republicans are SO green with envy, hate and vile, pathetic!

But what else can we expect from the party whose candidate sang, "bomb...bomb...... bomb Iran?"

Or the party that gave us, Palin, who questioned us on our Love of Country by calling SOME of us, "Real Americans....... " and if we are not "real Americans" according to her standards we are what? Anti-American! Talk about a DIVIDER!

The Republicans with their insults, criticism, obstruction have sank to a new LOW.

Turning the Nobel Peace Prize into partisan politics, that's the RNC we all know and love!

Well said. I sure hope Americans continue to realize how anti-American the neocons are. The same people who cheered when we didn't get the Olympics also brought us Iraq, Afghanistan, and the sorry Katrina response. Now they are booing when our president wins a huge international award.

What a sorry bunch Steele, Hannity, Beck, Limbaugh, and most of the loud mouth Republicans are.

I'm so glad we went with the smart guy this time!!!

Last republican president to win the Nobel Prize....1906. In fact, the only republican president to ever win it. As usual the rethuglicans will have to slink away licking their wounds. Oh wait, they recently cheered when the olympics were awarded to another country so I guess they won that one........oh wait again, who won that one? Leave it to a republican to cheer when the US loses and complain when the US wins.

Republicans in the House voted 3 to 1 against funding our troops.

Republicans hate our troops. Republicans hate America.

DNC has nothing constructive to say or do but name calling. I have never in my life seen such "crybabies". I think the RNC and a lot of others are confused as to What did Obama actually do to deserve this award?? Remember he was in office only 12 days when nominations were sealed.......Maybe he won it for best teleprompter reader, who knows. and really who cares at this point.
I just want our President to stop trying to be a World Celebrity and start being our President and get people jobs they can work at and support their families! Do what you promised to do for our country!

Republicans seem to embrace military takeovers of democracies, like in Honduras. They seem to like the idea of bring America to the edge of a depression. They seem to enjoy spending $700 billion of Bush's TARP money to bail out the banks without any restrictions. They were opposed to bailing out the auto industry and saving hundreds of thousands of jobs. They want to commit troops to Afghanistan for decades. They are opposed to health reform that would be helping Americans who have lost their jobs, have preexisting conditions, and had their insurance dropped. They seem to say "No!" to the American people, but wag their tails so big businesses will donate to them.

Members of the Grand Obstructionism Party have no shame, have no pride! None of them have the ability to be critical thinkers!

All they have is the ability to shout – "NO!"

They're nothing but a bunch of terrible, two year olds! "NO! MINE! NO! MINE! NO! NO! NO!"

I would have to agree. Also, reading some of the articles on CNN.com and Time.com, I'm worried that the Fox News/Republican anti-American syndrome hasn't become catching. Good news for America gets booed and bad news is cheered. This President and country deserves better than your reporting.

Wow... truly a new low for the GOP. Obviously, we need to not only vote them out of power, but we need to vote them OUT OF EXISTENCE. They are now officially dangerous to America.

Good to see it being told like it is.

There is only one type of person that does not like our President: Terrorists. That includes Al Qaeda, Taliban and Republicans.

It's not slander, it's simply fact. Republicans are the cancer of america, the enemy with in, and the demise of our great nation. Everything they do turns to sh.....! Proven time and time again.

    Out with all republicans/terrorists!

Well, I'll admit to being a Republican. A person who actually believes that you get what you earn, what you work for, what you deserve. It's ironic the Nobel committee should give Obama an award for doing no work, just like Obama hands out government tax credits and other aid to supporters of his who also do no work!

Obama deserves to win the Nobel Prize. I guess the republicans think George Bush should have won it. George Bush is the reason America didn't get the Olympics in 2012. The world hates us because of that idiot George Bush. He has destroyed this country in more ways than one.

Instead of a congratulations, the RNC offers insult. That is unfortunate. Yes, it was a surprise, and yes, this gives Obama even more to live up to. Maybe we should all help Obama and our country live up to this award and strive for true and lasting peace. It would be nice if our Washington politicians could work together in a spirit of cooperation to help achieve, well...something!

How pray tell can the Republicans be aligning with terrorists when the Democrats are always complaining that Republicans will not work with them. It is a well known fact world wide that the Democrats led by obama are the terrorists with intent on destroying this nation and it's constitution.

So unpatriotic is the GOP. This award signifies the efforts America is now making toward world peace; President Obama is that catalyst in which the American people has intrusted to accomplish this feat. To hate this award is hating America. sorry, but true!

Only 20% of Americans admit to being Republicans anymore.

That's posses some interesting questions. According to Rasmussen, 35% to 40% of voters strongly disapprove of Obama's performance as president. So I guess it's safe to say that at least 15% of those are Democrats.

That would also mean that the majority of people attending tea party protests are Democrats, that majority of people shouting at the town hall meetings are Democrats, that the people in the way of passing health care legislation are Democrats, and oh yes, the majority of greedy Wall Streeters are... Democrats.

I am surprised that President Obama won the Nobel Peace prize, but what surprises me the most is the response from the RNC and Michael Steel. Instead of being proud that his president won the award, he issues a statement slamming the president. This statement just illustrates further where this country is headed. Obama didn't ask for this award and I'm sure he is just as surprised as everyone else, but why criticize and condemn the hope that is obviously behind his selection. I truly feel sorry for any american who resents our president for winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
