Huckabee warns Republicans on Nobel reaction

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/09/18/art.mhuckabee.0918.gi.jpg caption=" Mike Huckabee is advising his fellow Republicans to temper their criticism of President Barack Obama's Nobel Peace Prize award."](CNN) - Mike Huckabee is advising his fellow Republicans to temper their criticism of President Barack Obama's Nobel Peace Prize award.

In a posting on his blog, the former GOP presidential candidate writes that members of his party must be careful their comments don't sound like "right-wing whining."

"There will be an outcry from those on the right who will say that Obama's nomination, made two weeks into his presidency, is impossible to justify, but I think such an outcry will sound like right-wing whining," Huckabee wrote. "The better response is simply to allow those on the left to explain what he did in his first two weeks as President that merited such recognition."

But the Republicans are professional whiners. Not only do they whine for a living, they also do it as a hobby.

I think they need to find a new hobby.

Mike, he was only nominated after the first two weeks. It's what he's done since then that turned his nomination into an award, coupled with what he has pledged to do in the next three and a half years.

This is a strange comment from a Repub whiner. Let the Repubs do what they do best, criticize!

Mike you are too late with your warning the "right-wing whining" has already started right from the leader of the RNC. I am surprised that President Obama won the Nobel Peace prize, but what surprises me the most is the response from the RNC and Michael Steel. Instead of being proud that his president won the award, he issues a statement slamming the president. This statement just illustrates further where this country is headed. Obama didn't ask for this award and I'm sure he is just as surprised as everyone else, but why criticize and condemn the hope that is obviously behind his selection. I truly feel sorry for any american who resents our president for winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

If there was an award for whining, it would be given to the right wing pundits! All they can do is criticize and offer zero solutions except tax cuts for the upper 1%. By the way, I am in that tax bracket and would happily share a percent or two of my wealth so that ALL Americans have access to universal health care!!

Pretty amazing isn't it. Ronald Reagan was actually able to set the Doomsday clock back and received nothing. Jimmy Carter won it for promoting mid-east peace (hey, guess what there is none) Al Gore for warning about Global Warming (hey guess what, there is none) and this blithering idiot wins it for nothing. I think I don't want to be very close to the res of the world that thinks like that and cannot recognize true accomplishment from liberal feel good twaddle.

The Republicans have been whining since Obama's been in the White House! Why should they stop now? And why does the left have to explain anything? The Nobel nominating committee gave their reason why they choose the President! In any regard, thank you Mr. Huckabee for speaking out to the party of NO.

  10. Huh?

Is this going to be next left-right debate? This was an honor bestowed by the international community based on their feelings of hope and inspiration. The US dem party does not nominate and award nobel prizes. Good Grief! The RNC should take their complaints and criticisms to the nobel committee.

How about a little pride in the US president for winning this honor?

Though I personally think that the award is premature, the left don't "have to explain" anything. President didn't seek the award. It was not his decision. It was the Nobel committee. Aim your criticism at them.

First Arafat, then Carter, then Gore, now Obama. Why don't they just rename this award what it REALLY IS–the "Hatred-of-America Prize?"
Everyone knows that the people who hand this thing out are a bunch of bitter, America-hating elitist who look for candidates who best symbolize their disdain and contempt for the U.S.

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PEACE!!!!!! IT'S A JOKE!!!!!

    yea...too late Huckabee

and as a democrat, I actually like this guy because he is doing it with REASON, something neo-conservatives (and neo-liberals) have clearly forgotten about.

And i don't believe Obama deserves it, but doesn't mean you can bash him for something he never asked for...like a 8 year war that should have been our only priority in the bush administration.

It can be summed up before the election, Mike... He lifted the world after eight long years of of beating it down and that in itself promoted long need unity.

Huckabee is onto something. The GOP sounds like a bunch of whining fascists in criticizing Obama's efforts for peace. They do not deserve to be Americans. They will get the Nobel award for hate and atrocity.

I don't care if the left feels this is just right-wing whining. This President does not deserve The Nobel Peace Prize and if the left wants to call the truth whining, so be it.

Regardless of political party affiliation all Americans should feel pride that our president has been honored with this award. We should all also accept the challenge that it offers – that all of us conduct ourselves in ways that reflect a commitment to peace – within our own country and in the wider world.

""The better response is simply to allow those on the left to explain what he did in his first two weeks as President that merited such recognition.""

    more republican selectivity.

President Obama has been working for peace and the betterment of people for far longer than he's been president.

when will the republicans stop being part of the problem and start being part of the solution

What did President Obama accomplish in his first two weeks of his presidency? He brought unity to Americans and hope to all the world. Which the Republicans have been doing their best to smash to pieces ever since.
