Rollins: Nobel committee cheapens award

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/10/09/art.rollins.cnn.jpg caption="Rollins says the committee awarded the Nobel Prize to President Obama prematurely."](CNN) - Did the Nobel Committee cheapen the Nobel Peace Prize with its choice of President Obama Friday?

CNN Republican strategist Ed Rollins says the award should be based on what someone has done, not what they might do.

"I think this may be way too preliminary," Rollins said on CNN's American Morning. "At the end of four years, maybe he has accomplished something and deserves it. I think it has diminished the award itself."

I think certainly you have to give him an "A" for trying," Rollins also said. But at the end of the day, what has he accomplished? Who on the world stage are his allies at this point in time?"

Why is everybody so surprise that the prez. has won the Nobel Peace Prize. After all, the committee must have seen something in him which is deserving of this prize, he is not one to talk war all the time, or to dictate to other countries how the should live, govern, and all that like Bush used to do. The world needs someone who can see them for what they are, and not all of us wants to war all the time. Give peace a Chance. Who knows, Pres. Obama might turn out to be a phenominol President. Let the Republicans look into themselves and realise what they are doing and saying is WRONG and needs to change.

I'm pleased for Obama, but I view the award as more of a formal rebuke of the past administration's diplomatic "efforts". Obama, through little more than the force of his will, has changed the world's perception of America after Bush tarnished it.

Like it or not, Obama is the face of the world's most powerful democracy, and he has fostered an astonishing amount of international goodwill in his short time in office. Given how Dubya left us, that's rather amazing. Who could forget the London newspaper in 2004 that declared, after the election, "How can 59 million people be so DUMB?", or something similar.

The US is not an island.

Ed Rollins has cheapened CNN. He should read what the Nobel Peace Prize is about and why it was awarded. It is not necessarily awarded for accomplishments, but rather for efforts in bringing about peace. After all, Woodrow Wilson was awarded the Nobel Prize for the League of Nations, but couldn't even get the U.S. to join.

Seriously, come onCNN, you are supposed to be the most trusted name in News.

If there was any doubt that the Nobel Peace Prize was a joke, this announcement will settle it.

Award it to a man who has not accomplished one positive thing! Weird definition of peace.

    Rollins,
We are in 21st century, people look differently and the whole world is looking forward for peace and stability, keep in mind he is not a warmonger. He is working hard to clean the mess you guyes have created in last 8 years, give some advice to your GOPERS to work with President to fix economy, jobs, and health care . You should be proude that fist time in the history young American President receiving NOBLE price...........should have waited before you speak..

Right, like a "Republican strategist" would say anything different! The GOP gets its marching orders from Limbaugh, who wants our President and our country to fail.

What else is a Republican lackey going to say?

This is the president of the United States If you can't stand behind the President and be positive that others think we have an outstanding President is this the ugly head of Jealous arousing or something else?

I think we need not to be hypocritic. We all are against Iran's bad intentions about nuclear though they have not acted. Why say now the President's good intentions of bringing PEACE doesn't make him deserve the Prize as he hasn't acted yet.

President Obama did not ask for this award nor do I think he care about it. RNC Chairman Steele why do you and your party do something except be negative to everything that the President do or happen to him. One thing for sure you can't run for anything in your home state...Mr. TOM........

    Rollins:

Are you not proud of America?

    Don't you love America?

Would you rather people hate us?

Would you rather people throw shoes at us?

You and the other Obama haters are pathetic and "un-American"

The only folks criticizing the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Obama are the Taliban and the Republicans – the Root of All Evil in the world.

Of course someone whose title is "republican strategist" would be in t best position to second guess the Nobel Committee. I guess the prize should have gone to the GOP for turning the US into a second rate world power.

What has he accomplished? He's given America her pride and dignity back. We no longer have an arrogant, condescending, insulting president in the Oval Office. We have someone who truly understands the world at large, one who understands diplomacy.

If nothing else, President Obama has proven to the world at large that not all Americans are as arrogant as Bush was. There are those of us who truly want America to be great again on the merits and ideals that once made us the top country on the planet. Bush cheapened those ideals, he ripped through them and destroyed them and tried to call it patriotism by wrapping it up in the flag. He made a mockery of America. President Obama has reversed the landslide. He's given us back our country.

It's a political decision. It's no surprise that they didn't like Bush. They gave it to Carter and to Gore during Bush's administration. This is just another kick at Bush. And deservedly so.

I guess the world thinks that President Obama represents the best of what a peaceful America is all about.

It's a sure bet that Rollin's won't ever be accused of trying to bring America peacefully together.

Rollins and his southern Klan of Republican pundit entertainers represent what's worst about America.

Spoken like a good Republican strategist , Ed Rollins has NO credibility, and it is Ed, that is trying best he can to cheapen this well deserved award.

I am sure he wouldn't feel that way if they had given it to a Republican this early. He is saying what he has to, to keep his job as a talking head.
Although some of his observations are very good, I think this one is a knee-jerk reaction. Just like you are going to get all over the country.
From both the far right who think being dumb and hateful to the rest of the world is something to be proud of, and the far left who think just because their friend or the person they voted for is gay, black, disabled, etc. makes them a shining beacon of social justice and they have solved the worlds ills.

I am tired of the media expressing opinions...frankly I do not care what Mr. Rollins thinks...give me news..not opinions..especially when your opinions are so slanted.

I agree, this cheapens the award and the Nobel Institution. At least Jimmy Carter accomplished something to earn such an honor. Shameful and very sad.
