Limbaugh: 'The media didn't make me, and they can't break me'

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/03/25/art.getty.rush.limbaugh.jpg caption="Limbaugh told an interviewer the media couldn't 'break' him."]
(CNN) - Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh is dismissing Democratic campaigns to paint him as the man steering the Republican Party, and media frenzies over his most controversial comments.

"The media didn't make me, and they can't break me," he said in a portion of an NBC interview that aired Monday.

"I am not the leader of the Republican Party. Don't want to be the leader of the Republican Party," said Limbaugh. "It's silly for them to keep talking about how I'm the leader of anything, it's just creating more curiosity about me. It's 21 years, more popular than ever. Lord, thank you for my enemies."

In interview excerpts released by the network, Limbaugh said he had been moved by the election of the nation's first black president - "but I got over it pretty quickly."

Obama's election has heightened racial discord, he said. "I predicted to you it was going to exacerbate racial problems, and it has," said Limbaugh. "There's a race industry in the country. They make money off it. They have fame and fortune off of it. And I predicted exactly what's happened.

"Any criticism of President Obama is going to be said to be oriented in racism. And if you don't like his health care bill, it's racist. If you don't like his cap and trade, it's racist."

Limbaugh also said grateful for the prescription drug addiction that forced him into treatment six years ago.

"I actually thank God for my addiction," he said. "I learned more about myself in rehab than I would have ever learned otherwise."

He's right when he says he's the leader of nothing–as in the party of NO-thing! Those republicans who may still have a brain cell left are right to try to distance themselves from someone like him. It's ridiculous for him to say he "predicted" the racial discord that would follow President Obama's election. HE SPEARHEADED IT! He PRAYED to Satan for it! He saw $$$ signs in it! And he continues to do so with every breath he takes. Its unreal to me that he has such a large following. Are there really that many thrill-seeking, racist, divisive, dangerous people out there that find him their "brand of entertainment"? Well I guess its better than lighting crosses on fire or hanging people from trees, right?

And I thank God to be a rehabilitated FORMER listener of his – and Hannity's – programs. Right wing is no better than left wing. I feel at home as a libertarian believer in the entire Constitution, not just the parts of it the Democratic and Republican parties want to acknowledge.

If he's not the leader of the Republican party...why does everyone in the Republican party work so hard to make sure that everything that they do or say is in line with everything that he does or says? And if they do something contrary to what Limbaugh does or says...(God-forbid) then they're not "real Republicans"....

Sounds like leadership to me. Denial can be an ugly thing el rushbo.

Why do people like Rush get to live, while Tim Russert has to die of a heart attack. It should have been the other way around.

Of course the media can't break him. And neither would a boycott of his sponsors. There's only one sponsor that matters for Limbaugh– the GOP. This is not smart on the GOP's part. As his influence increases, the GOP sinks as a viable national party.

Since he is entitled to his opinion and can share it with millions of people, I am clearly at a disadvantage as all I have is this CNN blog. What a pompous and arrogant idiot! He is the Jon Gosselin and T.O. of talk radio! His opinionated ramblings have no substance.

For him to talk about a so-called race industry is insulting and disrespectful. On numerous occassions, he has made comments that clearly had racist overtones. He has played a large role in this race industry he refers to and that was long before President Obama was elected to office. He has profited from this race industry. Name one thing he has done to improve race relations in this country.

At the end of the day, he is a loud mouth buffoon.

Limbo apparently doesn't listen to his own show. For the last two years he has whined, moaned and complained about the lack of leadership in the conservative movement. The only place these extremeists can call home is the Republican Party. And they couldn't get a conservative nominated in the party they are holding hostage to their dicredited ideology. Conservativism is America's BIG LIE. After the total failure of the conservative Bush administration Americans knowthe truth and have the proof that letting rich people do whatever they want and make as much as they want will NOT trickle down to everyone else. The greed will take the money and run. Limbo is the leader of the BIG LIE and thus is the big liar. Conservatives are reduced to using Limbo to spread fear, labeling and name calling. Sorry, Limbo, the rest of America is moving on – without you. Think for yourself, Dittoheads, Limbo is done!

The scariest thing about you is the venom you spew from your mouth and the sick people you appeal to daily. I totally agree with free speech but you constantly cross the line. George Bush will go down in history as the worst President in U.S. history and left this country in near financial ruin, stuck in two wars – one we should never have started since Americans are not invaders and the war in Afganistan which was started then left before completion, allowing the rich to get richer, using fear to maintain power, stomping on the Constitution with his VP, and being hated by the rest of the world. Yet you constantly jump all over Obama who is trying to right this country from the last 8 years. How about putting the blame where is belongs – the political party you do speak for constantly and the unintelligent you speak to daily. I wish the media would never cover anything you say because usually it is insignificant and vile.

...and the "media" haven't broken Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, the WWE and other entertainers, either. It would be nice, if he was a true patriot and cared about his country, if Mr. Limbaugh would rein himself in. But that won't happen. I don't listen to his show and I'd like to just ignore him but "the media" won't let me.

He's got it all wrong. The media didn't make and break him, the Republican party did. The media merely exposed him. There's no doubt in my mind that the Republican party made him give this speech in an attempt to further separate themselves from him and garner more support for the 2012 election.

Bottom line is, the Republican party is associated with you and it is to their detriment. Ask John McCain, Romney, Palin, Huckabee and Giuliani.

Rush.... maybe the media can't break you...but those KRISY KREMES will!

Oh...by the way...Rush...you are part OF THE MEDIA! Sad as that is of course. A truly unpatriotic part. The voice of those that want to live in fear, need to place blame, refuse to see the truth, and wallow in hatred, hypocrisy, misconception, and lack of education.

One last questionfor you Rush: How are those prescription pads working out for ya?

Rush Limbaugh is truly, in the word of Al Franken, "a big fat idiot". But the scary part is that there are actually people who listen to this jerk.

What has happened to our country? It is certainly acceptable to disagree with our President, but to do so with such foul rudeness and lack of respect for the office of the President is deplorable. What ever happened to civil discourse?

"The media didn't make me, and they can't break me,"
The only reason Rush can't be broken is because he's shameless.

And like FOX, the only reason his rating are so high is due to the fact his rabid listeners NEVER shut it off.

Rush on the radio and Fox on the TV with little other media if any. And we wonder why republicans all sound like the same person?

We can only hope and pray that that misguided blow\heart can be neutralized! He has caused more problems to the President and sitrred up more hate than even HIlter did! He absolutely hates our country and doesn't seem to realize that the MAJORITY rules not the "do nothing minority'. The PEOPLE (about 65% of them) want a public option but because the "just say no to everything" GOP doesn't, that they are the only people we should listen to. Well, he is wrong, Throughout history, the maority wins and so it should.

All of this dribble from the man who hopes President Obama fails. I disagree with you Rush in that the media did'nt make you-in fact it did make you. Without the media frenzy that you seem to gather around you with your arrogance you would be pretty much a nothing. It seems to me that you are the one who plays the race card. Its lucky for the republican party that you are not its leader for that would guarentee another Democratic victory. Perhaps you might try using the EIB (ego in broadcasting) network for some good instead of hyperbole and division. Talent on loan from God? Really Rush I don't think God promotes hate, racism and fascist ideology. You and all the mindless sheeple who listen to your drivel should get over yourselves. The rest of us with some grey matter in our heads see you for what you really are. AN ARROGANT BUFFOON WHO THE MEDIA DID MAKE FAMOUS by wastind ink on your vitrol.

I think it's interesting how Rush refers to the "media" as something separate from what he does. Who does he think he works for.....oh yeah, that's right. The RNC isn't media.

This man can direct an entire group of people? This man acts like he lacks common sense. I think he might be doing this for show, unless there is something very wrong with him. I feel sorry for his followers and anyone else who thinks that whatever he says is correct or even has a grain of truth behind it. We here in Argentina like Obama, we are glad he got the Nobel Peace prize, even though it might have had something to do with him not being Bush. Overall he is finally a good U.S.A. president but the right-wing in the U.S.A doesn't agree with that they, Al Qaeada, and Hamas are the only ones who actually hate Obama. This is not a great positions for them to allign themselves with.

Anyone who listens to Rush, knows that Rush is all about Rush.
It is fun to listen to him adore himself, because he does it with such a flourish. When you sift through the passion, powers of persuasion, and political madness of it all.. you will find some great golden nuggets of truth. Like a hidden treasure, it is a thing to be desired in this day of pandering and pawing, that is so blatant among the MSNBC's of the world. Rush is the leader of the free world, not just the Republican party. Those who laugh with him (just to keep our sanity)...
appreciate him and like everything else that is good about him..
    He knows it!
