Limbaugh: 'The media didn't make me, and they can't break me'

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/03/25/art.getty.rush.limbaugh.jpg caption="Limbaugh told an interviewer the media couldn't 'break' him."]
(CNN) - Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh is dismissing Democratic campaigns to paint him as the man steering the Republican Party, and media frenzies over his most controversial comments.

"The media didn't make me, and they can't break me," he said in a portion of an NBC interview that aired Monday.

"I am not the leader of the Republican Party. Don't want to be the leader of the Republican Party," said Limbaugh. "It's silly for them to keep talking about how I'm the leader of anything, it's just creating more curiosity about me. It's 21 years, more popular than ever. Lord, thank you for my enemies."

In interview excerpts released by the network, Limbaugh said he had been moved by the election of the nation's first black president - "but I got over it pretty quickly."

Obama's election has heightened racial discord, he said. "I predicted to you it was going to exacerbate racial problems, and it has," said Limbaugh. "There's a race industry in the country. They make money off it. They have fame and fortune off of it. And I predicted exactly what's happened.

"Any criticism of President Obama is going to be said to be oriented in racism. And if you don't like his health care bill, it's racist. If you don't like his cap and trade, it's racist."

Limbaugh also said grateful for the prescription drug addiction that forced him into treatment six years ago.

"I actually thank God for my addiction," he said. "I learned more about myself in rehab than I would have ever learned otherwise."

In his interview with NBC, Limbaugh said he predicted that the election of Obama was going to excerbate racism. Isn't he ineffect talking about himself? I guess he's excerbated of the fact that a blackman is the president. Live with it Limbaugh!! Whether u like it or not, Obama is ur president, and nothing u can do about it!

He is not the leader of the GOP, he's the leader of the village idiots! This clown, as well as Hannity, Colter, (and the most recent to sell his integrity), Glenn Beck will ruin our country. They preach hate, they breed an environment of failure and discontent. This country needs people with solutions, not constant attacks and sarcasms. Once you get an audience of uneducated, (left behind) listeners, it's easy to make millions, filling their empty heads with FOX propaganda.

I can see why Rush is sensitive about being deemed the leading intellectual force in today's Republican party. Talk about a left-handed compliment. Its like trying to impress a lady by telling her she doesn't sweat so much for a fat person.

Its also nice for Rush, Beck and the rest of rightwing world's intellectual leadership to keep reminding the great unwashed, time and time and time again, how racist President Obama is supposed to be. If they didn't constantly remind us, none of us would have figured such a surreal delusion for ourselves-hey Rush, any chance you might be sportscasting in the near future and enlighten us on how the NFL choses its quarterbacks?

Not one second of those 21 years of blabbing opinions has been for the good of any one else but Rush himself. I wonder what the Lord thinks of that.

Joe Scarborough and other conservatives have openly questioned the President's policies but at least they are respectful about it, but Rush's criticisms are very hateful and are more personally directed at the President. Unfortunately, Rush, Beck, and Hannity has a lot of more sway in the Republican party than people like Scarborough, Will, and Peggy Noonan.

Why is this racist, vile, & vulgar piece of human considered so mainstream as to be awarded interviews by mainstream media? I understand he's white, thus part of majority of Americans, but couldn't they find somebody more level headed? This guy is calling for segregation, and you're writing about him? And you wonder why blacks always cry racism in this country? This guy shouldn't be treated any better than say the black panthers, although I confess I don't know an iota about the group. I find it insulting that this guy continues to enjoy mainstream treatment.

Rush Limbaugh is nothing more than a hate spewing demagogue. If the Republican leadership had any decency they would bite the bullet and distance themselves from the bitter self-serving characters plaguing talk radio and Fox News. They won't, and the result will be evident at the polls as more and more reasonable people walk away from the GOP.

He's the guy who tells the leaders what to do, isn't he? That makes him the leader, and if he's so gooned on pills he hasn't even noticed he's the RNC Chairman, then no wonder the GOP is so stalled out! Rush is a far-out weirdo too strange for America.

No Republican has more loyal followers than Rush. No Republican has more influence than Rush. Of course Rush is the leader of the Republican Party. He will continue to prove his leadership by criticizing everything Obama does, because this will help the Republican Party that he leads.

For once I agree with Limbaugh. There is a race industry in this country and people are making millions off of it. People like Limbaugh, Hannity, and Coulter.

"Lord, thank you for my enemies"?? Well Rush, you have plenty of them!!!!! You have created enemies by your hate-filled, bigoted, hysterical rantings and ravings. You look to tear down this country every time a Democrat is in office. You are yesterday's news, fat man. You are irrelevant and care about nothing except for your wallet. You are a LOSER in the game of life. Steele is the token black man for the GOP. Thank God, for us Dems that YOU are the leader of the party of no. Losers all!! Obama 2012!!!!

Limbaugh's right for a change – the media can't break him. He's already a sick, broken man who wants everyone to be as angry and hateful as he is.

....and we see CNN, NBC and the other Obama lapdog media playing up the White House attack on Fox News.

How hypocritical seeing how these networks are the official propaganda arm of the Obama regime.

Freedom of the Press huh CNN? Perhaps its always been "freedom of the leftist press"

Going to backfire boys and girls – the attacks on Limbaugh, Fox etc. – the American public isn't as stupid as the media pinheads at CNN, NBC and the other bought and paid for media think.

    Why does Rushbo hate america

Our president is a worldwide joke. Folks, do you realize something has happened here that we all agree with the Taliban and Iran about - and that is he doesn't deserve the award? Now that's hilarious, that I'm on the same side of something with the Taliban."

disses America for wanting and losing the Olympics

They held the Pan American Games in Rio. They made all kinds of promises to the Pan American Games committee, building stadiums. They never fulfilled the promises. It was a disaster. But anyway, Rio de Janeiro gets the Olympics in 2016.

Just who does he think he's kidding? Of course the media made him. Without the microphone in front of him, he'd be nothing but a bag of hot air... he's a windbag even with the mic, but that's not the point. Limblah is NOTHING more than the sensationalism of the republican party. He's the curdled cream floating at the top of the FOX "news" hour, and the only reason that people see him as the leader of the Republican party is that he gets to spew all the bile that the actual "leaders" can't without ending their political careers.

The story about Fox news being an arm of the GOP is hilarious. Fox News ratings are soaring. The truth is that NBC and CNN are sold out to the Democrats and everybody knows it. NBC and CNN have ceased
    to be objective news organizations.
