Pelosi pledges again House will pass health care bill with public option

WASHINGTON (CNN) - As the Senate Finance Committee passed its health care bill out of committee without a public option Tuesday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi stood on the other side of the Capitol insisting again that the House will pass a bill with a government-run insurance option.

"I am for the public option. That will be the House position, and that will be the position we will go to the conference to fight for," Pelosi said.

Pointing to a CBS poll from last week that found 62 percent of Americans favor a public option, Pelosi argued "the public is way ahead of elected officials in this."

The Speaker said she's aiming to pass a bill by Thanksgiving, but acknowledged others are projecting Christmas, and concluded a bill would pass "certainly this year."

Yes, please. Cut the death grip the insurance industry has on the American public.

  5. Pelosi + Reid + Obama = DISASTER

If Obama passes a plan with a public option, the GOP will controll all three branches of government in 2012.

Medicare is $38 billion in debt and going bankrupt in a few short years, and Pelosi thinks the government can handle health care? She is drinking too much Kool aid.

THIS IS GOING TO PUT THE US INTO A DEEP FREEZE DEPRESSION -–

Does this now mean that we will be able to demand and receive the resignations of all of those people who have lied through the process when FoxNews (You know you'll never hear it from CNN and the state run media) proves that they lied? Including all of those phony thugs that make up the Obama administration.

If Cheney were responsible during his term, we wouldn't have to question his and Bush's behavior. If their policies were as transparent, they were more vocal and present like Obama then we wouldn't even have to go through this. He's lost so we dont' care what he's go to saty about a President doing better all by himself than the entire Bush administration!

The Public Option is not good enough for her, the master, but it is just fine for her Democrat slaves. Watch the slaves defend the master.

    Bill must have PUBLIC OPTION.

    We want PUBLIC OPTION.

We need a public option. In their PriceWaterhouse report, the insurance industry promised to raise their rates a minimum of 80% over the next ten years. That alone is enough reason to make darn sure they have some real competition.

    Pass a bill by Christmas?!?!?
I can't stop laughing... must breathe.
I appreciate her optimism, but that lady is smoking something funny if she thinks it will even be reconciled between the Senate and House by Obama's State of the Union address,
The Dems can't even agree within their own party on what should be in the bill.

She can push for the public option all she wants but it will never happen.
The Dems are just as much on the take from insurance companies as the Repubs are.

Yes, a robust public option is what the American people want – over 65% have said so.

If the Democrats deliver on this promise in a meaningful way, they will retain their majority – and probably increase it – in 2010.

What that will mean for the American people is momentum for moving ahead on a progressive agenda for our country, one that will result in a healthier, better educated, more productive populace, one that can turn its attention and energy from merely survival to tackling the challenges that lie before us as a nation.

Madam Speaker, the American public are behind you!

Does she think that just because she's for a public option the rest of America should fall at her feet and agree, I don't think so scooter. It's hard to believe the caliber of the people that california sends to washington, "duh, which way do I go". The rest home seems like a pretty good bet. CBS must have polled acorn.

The CBS poll probably only polled Dems so naturally it would be 62%. Try polling independants and republicans and watch how fast that number changes.

Pelosi doesn't live in the real world the rest of us are forced to live in. I think she breathed in the fumes from her private plane too long and she is seriously not all together.

I also think that once the young people find out that they will be hit with a large penalty for not having health insurance, they will be upset with the man they voted into the white house.

The Public Option will be shoved down our throats! Pray you never get anything other than a broken arm cause that's all it will cover. Pray you never brake a bone past 40 because they won't even pay for that then.

I guess that means Pelosi won't be standing beside Obama when he gives his press conference in a bit to tout the passage of the Baucus bill that does not have a public option. The Democrats will be lucky if they can get together on health care and pass a bill by NEXT CHRISTMAS.

THERE IS NO WAY PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES . . . are going to self-regulate their abusive practices that restrict doctor's abilities to heal Americans; and there is no way private health insurance companies are going to chill-out on their outrageous & excessive markups that makes it impossible for 45-million loyal hardworking Americans to purchase health coverage.

Public competition against the private sector will help keep the cost of health coverage low. YOU GO, NANCY PELOSI!
