Pelosi pledges again House will pass health care bill with public option

WASHINGTON (CNN) - As the Senate Finance Committee passed its health care bill out of committee without a public option Tuesday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi stood on the other side of the Capitol insisting again that the House will pass a bill with a government-run insurance option.

"I am for the public option. That will be the House position, and that will be the position we will go to the conference to fight for," Pelosi said.

Pointing to a CBS poll from last week that found 62 percent of Americans favor a public option, Pelosi argued "the public is way ahead of elected officials in this."

The Speaker said she's aiming to pass a bill by Thanksgiving, but acknowledged others are projecting Christmas, and concluded a bill would pass "certainly this year."

Passing the Public Option is the only way to get Insurance Companies to lower their rates. If it drives them out of business it's their own greedy fault!

As far as a Govt. controlled Health Care plan. It works, look at medicare & medicade, and the V.A. Health Care, as a vet. who uses it I can say it works very well. No complaints.

This is about the only issue I agree with that Extreem Liberal Nut Cake Pelosi on.

Give it up Nancy. Public Option is dead. It will never pass the Senate, no matter what you do in the house.

Pelosi's public option will continue to be a hard sell, and even if the Dems are pertinacious and pugnacious enough to keep harpin' on it, the GOP will revel in relentlessly rendering it as the repubs' repugnant rendition.

This nut job needs to have a reality check, she is so out of touch with the American people it isn't funny. She also wants more taxes, now that's a surprise. This woman hasn't met a tax hike she didn't like. San Franciscio can keep this nut job along with Gavin Newsom.

Nancy, the MAJORITY of Americans do NOT want the Public option, as if she cares about anyone but herself. A little too much Botox to the brain?

I strongly support a public option and was sorry to see it desappear in the Senate. Without the public option it does not put enough pressure on the insurance companies and we will stay in the same morass we've been in for way too many years. The insurance companies are the death panels, not the government plans. Medicare works great. They pay on time and they pay for what they are commited for. They're even polite on the 800 line. Thanks House for including this.

pelosi and her supporters don't seem to get it. any attempt to push to have a public option will surely hurt any final legislation, rather than help it. she can try, but she'll probably have to settle for something without this option, or make good on her threat of not voting for the legislation.

After cramming in tort reform, mandated coverage, and no cap for existing conditions a bill without a public option would be like a license for the insurance companies to keep raping the middle class while pushing rates up on people who are sick until they can't afford health care.

    Stay after 'em Nancy!

The "lady" doesn't care what the People (voters) want. They intend to cram this disaster that will ruin healthcare in America, down our throat. But they will have to live with the results, starting in November 2010.

Good for her. The Democrats should just go for a single payer non-profit universal health care bill because no Republican will vote for any bill anyway.

With what the insurance companies have just done I say go for the single payer universal now.

Pelosi's congress voted down measures to fix corrupt medicare. Now we are going to bring health care into the wasteful bureaucracy?

So Pelosi still thinks that there doesn't need to be an open debate on how to reform healthcare. She is so out of touch that she needs to be voted out. Unfortunately she represents a bunch of nuts that will keep voting her in.

The democratic plans leave out very important parts of true reform: TORT reform, listing pricing for procedures at hospitals, electronic medical records.... the democrat's plan shifts the risk to the government instead of private companies (using taxpayer money)–and it raises costs/taxes.

    Lame.
