Cheney hammers 'afraid' Obama on national security

(CNN) - After a summer in which Dick Cheney dialed back his attacks on President Obama's national security polices, the former vice president told a conservative gathering Wednesday that the Obama administration had damaged America's relationship with key allies, dangerously wavered in Afghanistan, undermined progress in Iraq, and intentionally sabotaged the Bush administration's national security legacy.

In the hard-hitting and wide-ranging speech at Center for Security policy, Cheney targeted the new administration's decision-making process on how to proceed in Afghanistan, saying Obama has failed to give troops on the ground a clear mission or defined goals, and appeared "afraid to make a decision."

"The White House must stop dithering while America's armed forces are in danger," Cheney said. "Make no mistake, signals of indecision out of Washington hurt our allies and embolden our adversaries."

Cheney also targeted White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who suggested to CNN's John King on "State of the Union" on Sunday that the previous administration had failed to adequately assess conditions in Afghanistan before committing troops there.

Cheney is a traitor and a coward. He has the blood of thousands of our bravest on his hands and Haliburton's money in his pockets. He should be hung from the highest tree.

Cheney helped protect the country. Obama is trying to destroy it. What president goes around the world bashing his own country, then gets laughed at trying to get an international game...like the olympics? No leaders around the world respect Obama, they just see him as a fellow socialist. Obama makes Bush and Cheney look like George Washington.

Remind Dick Head that 9/11 happened on his watch. And why is he not in a Guantanamo cell?

Hey Dick please shut up. The US rejected you and that paraniod fear-mongering with the last election. The world rejected you by awarding Obama with the Nobel. Just shut up and go away you war-monger. The world wants peace and not an aggressive superpower looking to rule the world. Too unfortunate that an intelligent guy like you can't understand that.

    Dear Mr. Cheney,

You are no longer relevant. Please retire and leave the governing to people who were actually elected.

We as citizens must back our Military, and keep them out of harms way buy letting our military leaders in charge get what they feel they need to creat a stable situation. No more waffling by our President please!

For years I considered Richard Nixon the most heinous criminal in the history of the United States (he tried to steal our democracy). In my opinion, Dick Cheney now holds that distinction. He was Bush's Rasputin (probably still is)!

I miss the adults being in charge! The contrast between Cheney and Obama is striking. Cheney makes the entire Obama staff look like amature hour at the circus. Say what you want to about Cheney, but Obama's policies are hurting so many in this country!

Thank you Mr. Cheney...you are absolutely right. This administration has no conception of the damage they are doing to our national security..they are more interested in letting their "trophy wife" win popularity contests with dictators and socialists....that is all Obama is good at showing his mug on useless TV shows, winning useless awards, and making useless speaches while our allies are threatened and our very own troops are unprotected....

President Obama has kept us safer longer than the Bush-Cheney clan. Bush was in office about 7 1/2 months when the worst attack in America happened on their watch. President Obama has now been in office nine months. Go away, Cheney, and spend time with your family or shooting friends.

Yet another Republican trying to claim the president has hurt our relationship with our allies. Yet it was Bush and Cheney who made us so hated throughout the world. These people can't see reality.

The Republicans bankrupted this country AND lost Afghanistan the minute they allowed FEAR to influence their rush to invade Iraq.

Tell me something Dick. Why is it that we hear from you more now than when you were the VP? Where were you when you were the second man in charge? We voted your party out because we were tired of people like you. Can you please have a slightest dignity to show your fellow contry men and women some respect and shut up? But then again, dignity is not something you have...who am I kidding?

he really should crawl back into his cave being in the light is harmful to such creatures. If he comes out again somebody ought to make him clean up his Afghan mess rather than push the job off on someone else. Seems like the extremists aren't the only ones proficient in leaving landmines behind for the next one who walks the path.

CNN, why do you insist on continuing to headline this man? What he says has no credibility with any of us.
He and Bush almost destroyed our country, brought on hate for our country from the rest of the world, are responsible for more terrorists and terrorists groups being created due their actions and, we have
no idea of how much damage they did in secrecy.
He does not deserve your headlines, regardless of what egotistical methods he uses.

Cheney is very, very stupid. Libel refers to false/defamatory statements made in PRINT. I guess he meant to say "slander". Doofus.

This from a "man" (yeah, right) who's biggest contribution to the Viet Nam war was the number of deferments he could get to avoid going in. The biggest "chicken hawk" ever.

I should preface this by stating yes I voted for Obama but no I do not agree with all his policies. That being said, I find it great that the POTUS is thinking before acting. Looking at it throughly before putting more lives in danger. Cheney ignored Afghanastan so he and Bush could go into Iraq. Something they wanted to do even before elected. Perhaps if we would have thought first all of our troops could be out of war zones now. Cheney was able to morph Sadam into Bin Laden in the minds of many, That was extremely dangerous and has put us and our brave soldiers at greater risk. So please Mr. President. don't have a knee jerk reaction. Think things through but also do not waste time. There is a balance between thoughtful and knee jerk actions.

As the leftists continue their Bush bashing, consider this. America is no longer a free country. Your government is telling you how to do everything, including pay your bills at their direction. Have fun in the new world.

… Our friends throughout the world are watching and wondering whether America will abandon them as well."
Who is he trying to kid? We DON'T have friends throughout the world. We were left to our own devises and peril in Iraq by nation after nation. So WHAT friends Dickie? You and the shrub alienated everybody. You are nefarious, and one of the principal violators not only of our Constitution but of International Laws which is why Spain is laying in wait so they can nab you up like we did that film director whatshisname.
