Cheney hammers 'afraid' Obama on national security

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/10/22/art.cheney1.gi.jpg caption="Cheney received the Center for Security Policy's Keeper of the Flame award Wednesday night ."]

(CNN) - After a summer in which Dick Cheney dialed back his attacks on President Obama's national security polices, the former vice president told a conservative gathering Wednesday that the Obama administration had damaged America's relationship with key allies, dangerously wavered in Afghanistan, undermined progress in Iraq, and intentionally sabotaged the Bush administration's national security legacy.

In the hard-hitting and wide-ranging speech at Center for Security policy, Cheney targeted the new administration's decision-making process on how to proceed in Afghanistan, saying Obama has failed to give troops on the ground a clear mission or defined goals, and appeared "afraid to make a decision."

"The White House must stop dithering while America's armed forces are in danger," Cheney said. "Make no mistake, signals of indecision out of Washington hurt our allies and embolden our adversaries."

Cheney also targeted White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who suggested to CNN's John King on "State of the Union" on Sunday that the previous administration had failed to adequately assess conditions in Afghanistan before committing troops there.

Ah, the war criminal is mouthing off again. He still doesn't realize that no one wants to see him on TV unless and until he is doing a perp walk.

This man is a complete scumbag. Anyone trying this while Bush was president would find themselves in Gitmo.

You can hate him all you want, but he's right. I see a lot of emotional comments on this page from people who disagree, and they are certainly entitled to their opinion. However, the argument they make isn't one founded in an educated understanding of foreign policy and international relations. I truly hope that the citizens of our country will progress to a state where we can think rationally with regard to these issues.

Why is this guy in the news???? He was part of what will be considered the worst Presidency in american history. His foreign policy was a disaster.... Obama won the peace prize for largely reversing his terrible foreign policy .... this from a ChickenHawk who never served in the Military and got several deferments (got out of it)during the Vetenam War. Ask yourself this are his children currently serving in Afghanistan like say the current Vice Presidents Son?

When are Bush and Cheney going to be charged with crimes against humanity? 9/11 was one of the worst terrorist attacks this world has ever seen, and I mourn those 3000+ people who were murdered. But I also mourn the loss of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi and Afgani citizens who died under the watch of the Bush administration. These 2 should be tried as criminals.

Why is Dick Cheney not in jail for war crimes? And why does he have any creditibility at all when he is the very man who outed a CIA operative(isn't that concidered treson and punishment is hanging?), bullied the government into invading a country (that would be Iraq) killed millions of innocent people, and profitted billions from that war via Haliburton. I can't wait for the Obama admin to turn the gaze toward him and put him on the spot just like all the other right wing nut jobs. Typical of Cheney, start some noise to distract from the real issues that he and his facist buddies started. Let's get back to mopping up the mess on Wall Street and Health Care. Cheney, shut up and get a mop!

Once again, Prick Cheney is spewing his typical fear mongering bull like he did for the last 8 years. I'd like for him to really elaborate on how the Obama administration has made us less safe. And what he's doing with Afghanistan is trying to figure out a way to do what's right. Working with the generals, figuring out troop numbers, etc. Unlike you and Georgy boy did, that's why our military hates you and you suck!

I thought this nut would be behind bars by now. Why in the world is congress not doing more investigation on this character? Cheney is the one who is a danger to our country with his extreme rightwing agenda. All he wants to do is turn the American people against each other and destory this great nation over oil and energy. If people cannot see this, then there is something very wrong.

Almost funny to see Cheney say this is Omama's mess. I guess he thinks if he says it enough, people will believe it, like they did when he and Bush were running things into the ground. This is and always will be Bush/Cheney's war (s), and I think everyone knows that! What a despicable human being!

It's time to realize on the Left that Barack is another Bush. He is just creating a quagmire in Afghan vs. Iraq. He can blame Bush for starting it, but he clearly has no plan after 10 months in office. Change? No, same old crap.

Yeah right, Obama's really messing up in Afghanistan the nine months he's been in office. Nothing like the seven years of efficiency and success we experienced there during the Dick and W show.

We should start a fund for a one-way airline ticket (well, guess that'd have to be reimbursement for a US military flight) to get Dick to that lovely vacation spot, Iraq, that he was so crucial in developing... He could go there, live the good life, and be their ex-VP.

Calling him Darth Vader is an insult to Darth Vader. He has no common nor military sense on how to run a war and will always believe firebase mentality is the best option, just keep putting our brave soldiers/sailors/airmen in harms way. Would someone just tell him to retire FGS.

All Cheney want is for this government to give Carte Blanche to all of non-bid contract receiving crony corporations and friends. The administration continiues to procesute these wars correctly. Cheney and his daughter must return to their hide-away bunker from now until they no longer need to worry. If you notice, the administration has already foiled several terrorist attempts or plans. Bush and Cheney were unable to do so. But yet they have the audacity to complain about this President's decisions. Again, they should hide in their bunker.

If Bush didn't lie completely about Iraq, then this guy did. Even if Bush did, Cheney still promoted falsehoods.

Anyone who says that Obama shouldn't be releasing memos about his terms wants to forgive such atrocities, but is that what justice is about?

Reality escapes Dick Cheney. He shows disturbing signs of obsessive compulsive disorder. People who are wrong sometimes cannot get over the fact that they're wrong. In the twilight years of your life, you should enjoy them and not get so angry and indignant.

It's so easy to be gung-ho about carelessly sending in more troops to war when they aren't related to you. Why doesn't his daughter get her obese butt off Twitter and join the troops?

I see you people that post here do a good job following orders and drinking your kool aid on schedule. G2 has the only thought out reply, the rest of you are spewing what's been in the mainstream media. Can any one of you even explain why you dislike Cheney? "he's evil." Not even close to good enough. Have some original thought for chrissakes.
