Jarrett makes, retracts charge Fox is biased

(CNN) - The White House carefully continued its assault on Fox News Tuesday, as a senior White House adviser told CNN's Campbell Brown that the network was "of course" biased against the Obama administration, but immediately backtracked slightly.

Speaking at the Women's Conference in California, White House Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett said the Obama administration is "calling everybody out" when it comes to "patterns of distortion" - echoing the Democratic National Committee's "Call 'em Out" campaign that targets critics of the president's health care plan.

To the question of whether Fox News is biased, Jarrett replied: "Well, of course they're biased. Of course they are."

But when Brown followed up by asking Jarrett if she thinks MSNBC is biased, she quickly downplayed her original remark. "Actually, I don't want to generalize all of Fox is biased or that another station is biased. I think what we want to do is look at it on a case-by-case basis," she said. "When we see a pattern of distortion, we're going to be honest about that pattern of distortion....

"We're actually calling everybody out. So this isn't anything that's simply directed at Fox. We just want the American people to have a really clear understanding," said Jarrett.

FOX is biased against Obama. And in other news, 2+2=4 and the sun rises in the East.

FOX news IS biased, and frankly, there's nothing wrong with saying it out loud. it's not like it's a secret.

Typical Campbell Brown, always a day late and a dollar short with her comentary. Campbell, this is old news. Already been done over and over by your own station. Please, go back to be a stay at home something or find a job you're good at. Journalism isn't your cup of tea.

Jarrett, and the entire administration, just doesnt get it. The TRULY biased networks are those like MSNBC whose anchors get "goosebumps" whenever they hear Obama speak. (Chris Matthews). The huge majority of the media have ALWAYS been biased toward the left..... and that's why Fox's coverage seems so strange (and biased) to left-wingers. They are just not used to hearing BOTH sides.

Let Obama continue his Nixon-esque policies toward Fox..... it only makes mainstream America stronger.

Jarrett!!! Don't throw your 'stuff' out there and then punk up on us, there's nothing worse! Fox hates the Prez, and won't let the facts get in the way of trying to hammer him down. And, yes, while msnbc may like the Prez at least they don't make stuff up to prove it, and they keep their loonies in the nuthouse NOT put them on TV like Beck, Hannity, and Bachman.

Jarrett has no credability. Hugo Chavez's press operations have taken over for Obama and the first Amendment is a bad thing. Its just pitiful that Obama has to own/control all the media or they can't play at the White house. Very weak President.

Oh really? Will she be "calling them out" when she hears CNN and other news media salivating over her boss and dismissing his critics as somehow the enemy? Jarrett is a part of the Chicago way of doing things that we do not need on the national scene.

I think all media is creating the media. FOX,CNN, MSNBC and others. Real journalism died sometime ago. Too many commentators not enough Journalist. In fact, we have become commentator through these comment boards. Not a useful tool in the end. People who don't have all the facts blurb out and think they do. Who's guilty? Everybody. The public feeds on it. The station provides it otherwise they lose money.

  9. Barbara -

Having tested the waters on the FOX site I have no doubt whatsoever that FOX has the main agenda of pulling down the Obama administration. President Obama would be well served to treat this "entertainment" network for what it is... A bunch of clowns all trying to get into one telephone booth.

Be careful FOX. You're pretty high on the White House' enemy list.

How DARE you even disagree with Mr. Obama, or any of his "know-all" Chicago advisers, or any of his czars.

  11. but Fox is by their own admission

Fox said they are not news, but their own words

    they said they are 'commentors'

and those commentors, almost all of them, are commenting in a manner that is not going to be equal in its treatment towards Obama and Democrats

this does not seem to be a revelation, even Fox will say this

Too late for you. your part of a dictatorship trying to stomp on free speech. america is on to you in the obama administration. the great majority of americans watch fox news and we are pissed. if your lucky youll just get voted out of office. if your lucky. the alternative is having your communist necks stretched

Calling everyone out? More lies from the administration that claimed it would be transparent. It got caught trying to leave Fox out of a interview and the rest of the White House press pool stood their ground. Any descent against this administration is either attacked as racist or they try to mute . How did that gag order go for Humana? I am thinking they need to read the constitution and stop reading the Chavez play book. MSNBC and NBC are as biased to the left as Fox is to the right. I don't see the White House denying them access to officials.

What hypocrites democrats are. The main stream networks are for the most part way biased towards Obumer but if one speaks the truth about him he apoints a task force against them with our tax dollors paying for it! What a joke this fool and LIAR is.

It's incredible how big of idiots the administration thinks we are. "Oh we didn't mean it"...sure you didn't. It's actually more demeaning to us than Fox that the WH thinks we're that stupid..

  19. Objective Thinking

KUDOS TO CAMPBELL BROWN for bringing up the valid point about MSNBC. And it's VERY telling that Jarrett wouldn't admit that MSNBC was biased.

The Right has FOX and the Left has MSNBC. But only FOX gets consistently called out.

Good for Jarrett fox news is a racist organization, who's agenda is to see president fail. They have nothing good to say about president Obama. If walks like a duck, quacks or talk like a duck it's a duck.

Oh jarret just didnt want chris matthews tingle up his leg to be brought up. msnbc is very biased. The biggest problem with presidents is that they start beleiving their own press. Mr president you an't that great to tell a whole country what is news and what isn't.

  24. Steve (the real one)

Since when was anybody else "called out"? I have NEVER heard them call out MSNBC, ABC, CBS, or even CNN! You are wrong as you can possibly be , Ms Jarrett. It IS simply directed at Fox! Why the change of words? I think somebody just got punked! Excellent follow up question, Campbell!

Naturally VJ thinks Fox is biased. They are doing the investigative work that is uncovering the corruption in the BO adm. Work that Cnn or MSNBC wont do because they wouldn't report it anyway. That is why FOX is eating you lunch, because We The People want the truth.
Everything FOX has reported or uncovered has led to corruption....Now that is true reporting. We need to know who is running our government, good and bad. How can CNN not want the best for America???????
