Clinton has tough sell in repairing relationship with Pakistan

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) - Just a few hours after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in Islamabad, a massive car bomb exploded in a crowded market frequented by women in the northwest city of Peshawar, a two-hour drive away.

The city lies near Pakistan's tribal areas where al Qaeda and other extremist groups are believed to be hiding.

Condemning what she called "vicious attacks," Clinton called those who carry them out "cowards."

"They are not courageous, they are cowardly," she told reporters, speaking slowly and deliberately. "If the people behind these attacks were so sure of their beliefs, let them join the political process. Let them come forth to the people of Pakistan in this democracy and make their case that they don't want girls to go to school. That they want women to be kept back."

Give 'em some of the "smart power", girlie!

It's worked so well with Putin and our former allies in eastern Europe.

Religious conservatives are so backward. They want to keep women in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant. Guys. Read what Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B Anthony said about god and women's rights. Stanton said the Bible was the greatest obstacle to women's rights and went ahead to write the Women's Bible with all the sexist stuff removed. When christian anti-women fundamentalists criticized her, Susan B Anthony (her friend) defended her and said:

I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do, because I notice it always coincides with their own desires.

Islam is not the only religion that is anti-woman.

Repair what? Pakistan is still an ally and always has been. Since Obama took office they for the 1st time have launched major offensives where Al Queda is thought to be hiding. The only reason for all the bombings is that the enemy is hurting and getting more desperate. Keep up the good work Sec. Clinton.

Some how I feel as though we have lost the Hillary we know.
She is no longer the courageous woman we all grow to admire.

She knows our strategy with Iran is wrong, she knows we are
losing respect in the world stage and she should put America
ahead of the democrats and their future.

Make the right decision and standup for what you believe Hillary.

Why she is allowing to be marginalized is beyond me.

It's a shame that Pakistan has allowed the Taliban to prosper and grow. While Mursharruf took $Millions and pocketed the funds, very little was done to curb the insurgency of the Taliban. Instead, he went to the Eastern border against India, a country that has not attacked Pakistan. Now, they are reaping the harvest and are still refusing to ask the U.S. for military assistance to clean out the insurgents. Therefore, both Afghanistan and Pakistan are suffering the results of 8 years of Bush Administration buyout of the Gen. called Mursharruf. What is the difference in paying him off and paying off the Taliban to switch sides. The U.S. did it in IRAQ and the hard-core right wing said nothing. Now, they want to knock Pres. Obama! The world is INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!

If anybody can restore our relationships around the world – and do so by NOT being bogged down with Healthcare, a sagging economy, a banking collapse, the largest (or at least close to it) domestic spending in U.S. history, etc. etc. etc. – it would be Secretary of State Clinton. Obama may sound pretty, but he's all talk with very little action.

Stand your ground Mrs. Clinton. As Secretary of State, you have already proven that you are "up for the task".

Wow, nice to see our Secretary of State being allowed to do her job.
I was starting to think she'd been replaced by John Kerry.

Well said Mrs Clinton, however, you said it yourself "these are extremists" they only know violence. Talk is cheap. You may want to be tough like the pakistani foreign minister.

She is right about what she said about the Pakistanis (although she she could have been speaking of Rush Limbaugh), and it is about time we said so unequivocally.
